Indeed, the SKS is not an assault rifle. But when people change the stock and add a 20 or 30 round magazine, it does look like one. That's what confuses a lot of people I think.
WOW ,good video, some of the comments are way of base!,SKS is russian,1st made at the tula arrsenal, then others after the fact, production stopped after the ak-47 was in full production, china, and all other warsaw pact countries were givin the plans and some equipment from the factories to make there own, eastern block mostly, china, iran, and other asian countries followed blue prints and added modifications of there own,But the first and only true SKS came from tula,so sorry so many bashers out there
An assault rifle would be select fire. Basically it would have a 'full auto' a 'Semi auto' and a 'safety' setting. The Sks has only Semi-Auto with a safety.
Any other terms to define something as an 'Assault Rifle' is political nonsense or ignorance.
SKS originated in Russia. It is NOT at all an AK. The SKS was made a few years before the AK. If anything you could call the AK the nephew of the SKS.
Not really dude. SKS was copied off the PTRS 41, look at the gas system and action, it's identical to the SKS.
Intermediate cartridges didn't come from the SKS, it was the StG. The StG reproduced Asexually. As for the stock, what?
The SKS started it's design in 1945, but at that time, I do not believe it was designed in any other caliber than an assumption that it's using an intermediate cartridge like the StG, that's in 7,62.
The SKS became was so widely used because the AK-47 was new, and unique, and the Russians didn't want to give it out to all the troops or all of the countries under their control, so they were given simple SKSs or Mosin Nagants.
They either produced their own, or got them from the Russians.
I know for certain that the East Germans made their own SKSs but also received some from the Russians, they were stamped with a 1 inside a triangle.
@EmptyWalls100 I wouldn't call it copying, considering they are both Simonovs weapons. He just took what he had that was successful in the PTRS41, shrunk it and gave birth to the SKS.
I'm not saying that you are uneducated and I actually appluad you for shooting such a weapon. It is a fine rifle. It just takes time and effort to really learn the ins and outs.
Not bad for a first timer, the guy could've gone a bit more indepth. The SKS takes Practice to shoot and I mean shoot well. I own two, what you were shooting was the Yugoslavian SKS with a grenade launcher and the aftermarket Tapco Stock. However, I'm not getting myself or my "panties in a bunch" when I say that the SKS is not an assault rifle. If you are confused, you can research it. The Public labels it an assualt rifle which can be and is disgusting. I mean that by how uneducated people are.
Google the Chinese Type 63, 68, 73, and 81. They were made with burst and auto features. They're rare though. Very much so. As far as I know of no automatic sks's exsist in the usa. Some of those are sks/ak hybrids too.
Excuse me? It carries an intermediate round and it is carbine length. This one even looks like it's got a box mag.
The only distinction between this and an AK-47 is that an AK-47 has fully automatic capability, which, realistically, you're not going to be able to get a hold of in the United States. So going by your criteria, you're a fucktard if you think a semi AK-47 is an assault rifle seeing as it's the same thing as this SKS. Same round, same operation....
yer the fucktard re-read my post.... An automatic AK-47 is an assault rifle an SKS and semi only AK-47 are not..... wheres the argument??? so how did you get the SN Red fingers? from diddling yourself while on the rag??
What's wrong with "tacticool" shit, considering it looks no more "tacticool" than an AR15 (wonder where that notation came from) which has the same operation and uses a similar caliber?
well then maybe you fingered your asshole till it was bloody red? And FYI AR-15 stands for Armalite rifle - 15. you wanna sound smart? dont F'ing reply assclown...
it's funny watching her try to hold the rifle right, that and the fact that she labels the SKS as an "assault rifle" shows how little she knows about guns...
Cute lady. Great gun. Stupid title. Whoever told you the SKS is an assault rifle is an idiot. There is little to no difference between a semi-automatic AK-47 and a semi-automatic hunting rifle.
The fully-automatic capability is what makes a weapon an "assault weapon".
the inner working may be a lot different but it is still an "assault rifle." It was mass produced to replace the Ak during the Vietnam war because they couldnt supply enough Ak-47s to the NVA and VC troops to keep them in the fight. Most of them are very cheaply made but hang together well and function fairly well too.
the fact that it was changed and modified proves that it is no longer what it was and intended to be used as..... along side the fact that "assault" conveys a forceful engagement which is fully auto , this credits my previous comment even more......semi-auto is defensive shooting...
The Sks has not been modified very much since it was created. It was considered an assault rifle then and still is now. And a forceful engagment doesn't mean fully automatic weapons. This rifle was used very successfully against full auto weapons in Vietnam and various other conflicts from 1950s to present day. And if I could get one, I would have a defensive automatic too. whats the difference between an auto and a semi if I have to stop a threat? I want to survive the encounter.
@s197stangdragger The difference between fully-auto and semi-auto weapons is that you can use fully-auto weapons to do "suppression fire" much more easily than with semi-auto weapons, allowing an individual to have a better chance when outnumbered in combat. Additionally, fully-auto weapons are associated with larger stockpiles of ammunition, demonstrating an intent to engage in prolonged conflict.
No, I am not against fully-auto weapons at all, I'm just saying that there is a difference.
Fully automatic weapons provide no such benefit. A semi-auto rifle can be fired just as fast and far more accurately than a full auto version. You could suppress a target with a pump shotgun so that makes little difference. Soldiers only carry so much ammo no matter how fast the gun can shoot it. So which would give them a better logistical advvantage? I understand what you are saying but someone has mislead you on several things.
@maximuslt90 Semi-auto is not necessarily defensive shooting. Semi-automatic is just more difficult to pin down multiple targets at one point in time. Indeed, fully-automatic weapons can be used in a defensive way; e.g. you're threatened by four gunmen. Having a fully-automatic weapon can be useful to force the gunmen behind cover while you make your escape. Suppression fire is a great tactic, if you have the ammo for it that is.
You know, there is a difference between "bad posture" and being a little chubby. Your a little chubby, big deal. If people think your pregnant and your not, it means you have like a beer gut or a maybe a muffin top.
Because of barrel length but the SKS is neither. It's a battle rifle. Longer gun that is semi-auto and fires a higher caliber round for generally longer range than an AR.
No, a battle rifle uses a full power round like the 7.62x 51mm NATO, or in the Russian case the 7.62x54R. It is a carbine, it uses the same 7.62x39mm round as the AK47, and it is semi-auto only, and assault weapon must be a select fire weapon using a mid power round. A battle rifle may or may not be select fire, the British used a semi-auto FN FAL, and the Argentinians used a select fire model of the same rifle during the Falklands war.
Uh??? "Assault rifle?" How does the SKS in this video = assault rifle? Quit throwing out incorrect terminology and supporting the Leftist anti-gun establishment's vocabulary in calling ALL semi-auto rifles "assault rifles."

Actually the SKS is an assault rifle. at the end of WWII Germanys quest for an intermediate sized round (smaller than 8mm yet larger than sub-machine gun rounds) ended with the deployment of the Sturmgewehr 44 to some of the remaining SS or shock troops. Hitler later decided to call it an assault rifle for psycological affect. The SKS is also chambered in an intermediate caliber and shares characteristics of the original breed of "assault rifles".
hhey i got that same EXACT SKS rifle da chhicks holdin and i need help because when i shoot out a bullet it doesnt unload it self! so i basically gotta cock it back manually after EVERY shot (which isnt as effeicent either) what in the world is the problem?! plz help
its sounds like you have a problem with the gas tube. take your sks and go up near the flip up sights, now you wanna find the little latch on the right side, pull that up to the 11 oclock position and pull up the gas tube with hand gaurd and take it out. now you wanna take that same latch again and pull it even more up to like the 5 oclock position with your hand over the hole. this will eject another rod. now clean all those parts inside and out and check for scratches and carbon buildup
You are right sks are not assult rifles they are COMBAT rifles they wear made to do 1 thing and 1 thing only KILL in combat not for sporting they wear made for killing and you are right and thank you for putting the them all straight
I didn't see an assault rife in the entire vid. An assault video is select-fire, where you can switch from semi-automatic to 3 rnd burst or fully automatic.
+1 on that! THE SKS IS NOT AN ASSAULT WEAPON. An assault weapon only pertains to fully automatic SMG's. The SKS is a great/simple sporting weapon for plinking and hunting and is clearly NOT FULL AUTO. Liberal anti-gun snobs label all firearms as "assault weapons" to add fear to the gun fearing public and further push their agenda.
If it's not an assault rifle, it's only by technicality.
The SKS, especially with those aftermarket mods, is functionally equivalent to the AR15 or the AK47 when civilianized. That rifle, in its current configuration isn't legal in a number of states for that reason.
If you really want to be preachy about the 2nd Amendment, you might point out that it doesn't convey any restrictions on civilian firearms whatsoever.
dude sorry to offend. try not to get your panties in a bunch over this. i checked several websites before I labeled it as such, but I don't claim to be an expert, so yeah...
No offense taken. My panties aren't in a bunch, but there are those who get their panties in a bunch over those "evil guns". Just doing my part to keep the record straight. Hope you enjoyed shooting it!
haha carbines and rifles are different. cant be both haha. and not a battle rifle either, cause the qualification for that is cartridge size and power, closer to a assault rifle, but still not one cause it is not selective fire capable.....
they can be both. For example a Lee enfield Jungle carbine. fired the same round as the full sized Enfield. M4 carbine... same round as the M-16 still a rifle hmmm. the 7.62X39mm is a small RIFLE cartridge. Its funny how you send me WIKIPEDIA links to justify your claims. haha moron
You're an incompetent ego-idiot and can't take a viable source for proving you wrong. A rifle cannot be a carbine and vice versa. The M4 is not an M16, yes it is based on it but its actually a separate weapon. Carbines can fire rifle rounds since they were developed from rifles but just because a weapon will fire a rifle round does not make it a rifle. That logic would dub every SMG a pistol and some repeaters as well. give it up retard, you obviously have no clue what you're talking about.
A rifle is only an "assault rifle" if it's used to assault someone, otherwise, it's just a rifle.

the difference is this.
Look at the M1 garand. its a Semi-aotumatic rifle cuase its only semi-auto
Now look at the M14. they look similar only the m-14 has full-auto and semi-auto. Therfore its an assault rifle.
the origional SKS is from the Soviet union (USSR).
you know how the STg-44 is the Father of the Ak-47. well the SKS is its mother. the 7.62*39mm round and foregrip are all from the SKS

You should rename this video bro! Don't buy into the scary label propaganda people like Feinstein have put on guns!

helps alot if you stand the correct way and use the sights

That was too cool, wish I could have been there! Anyhow, you labeled it correctly. While some might hate calling it that, it is what it is.

The SKS is not an assault rifle, by any definition. Please don't call it that. It just encourages those who want to ban them.

Anyway, great video.

It doesnt have a selector switch therefore it will never be an assault rifle no matter how many mods you put on it. Its just a good ol battle rifle

dude sorry to offend. try not to get your panties in a bunch over this. i checked several websites before I labeled it as such, but I don't claim to be an expert, so yeah...
mocachik 3 years ago
No offense taken. My panties aren't in a bunch, but there are those who get their panties in a bunch over those "evil guns". Just doing my part to keep the record straight. Hope you enjoyed shooting it!

i do understand your frustration with the labeling though. I despise liberals just as much as the next dude with brains
rock on

then why label the rifle as an assault rifle? when it's not?
shades921 3 years ago
Because this person is a mark that doesn't know any better and wants to sound somewhat intelligent.

they speak the truth! its very much not an assualt rifle, or a rifle at all. its a carbine
StreetFight23 3 years ago 4
its definately a rifle buddy its a battle rifle and yes its a carbine
DANIAC262 3 years ago
haha carbines and rifles are different. cant be both haha. and not a battle rifle either, cause the qualification for that is cartridge size and power, closer to a assault rifle, but still not one cause it is not selective fire capable.....
StreetFight23 3 years ago
they can be both. For example a Lee enfield Jungle carbine. fired the same round as the full sized Enfield. M4 carbine... same round as the M-16 still a rifle hmmm. the 7.62X39mm is a small RIFLE cartridge. Its funny how you send me WIKIPEDIA links to justify your claims. haha moron
DANIAC262 3 years ago
You're an incompetent ego-idiot and can't take a viable source for proving you wrong. A rifle cannot be a carbine and vice versa. The M4 is not an M16, yes it is based on it but its actually a separate weapon. Carbines can fire rifle rounds since they were developed from rifles but just because a weapon will fire a rifle round does not make it a rifle. That logic would dub every SMG a pistol and some repeaters as well. give it up retard, you obviously have no clue what you're talking about.
