Angel is simply the best! Compare this performance with any other solos done by other guitarists including John Williams, Segovia, Russell and even Pepe Romero. Angel is unmatched with regards to tonal quality, technique, expression and general musicianship.
for a baroque piece, way too romantically interpreted. seems like he wants to impress the audience, not to preserve the core of Sanz's music. impressive, but not in style
@gigibeklee Should he bore the audience instead? So long as he's impressing you with the "proper" style, that's probably okay, huh? Do you need to be reminded that Mr. Romero is long past the stage of having to prove his virtuosity or fidelity to anyone? He's not a schoolboy anymore competing for prizes. Here, he's simply having fun with one of the shorter pieces in the repertory. I never heard it played like this before, and I thought it was wonderful.
my friends: "study with diligence, perform with gratitude". Get a good instrument and work on it exclusiively. forget your lesser axes. Notice here what a good tone is all about; make it sing, or call it quits! Quite frankly, only Angel Romero and Paco have that tone, as much as i enjoy other top concert artists. Meeting either one must be absolutely life-changing! Best wishes to everyone out there trying to sound well on gtr...
HAAA! I just played for Angel literally an hour ago at a master class at CSUS (Sacramento). I played the Prelude from S.L. Wiess' Lute Sonata #2. He drilled me on my right hand!
this is inaccurate. Rodrigo BASED his fourth movement of the Fantasia Para Un Gentilhombre on this piece. This piece was written by Gaspar Sanz some 250 years before Rodrigo's birth. It is called Canarios and was played on a five-course baroque guitar originally and then transcribed for the 6-stringed instrument. There's a youtube vid out there of someone on a baroque guitar playing this if you wish to hear the truly original version.
The original piece, based on a dance, is quite short and rather simple. The repeats just lengthen it and, if you love this piece like I do, it's very satisfying...not ridiculous. To each his own...and to all, the freedom of the Internet to spout off about anything you want to.
the head crest i should specify and foremost you just need ot know what the instruments look like and be able to tell about the time frame that it was made his instrument in this looks like it was made in about the 60's or early 70's
Los Romero son los mejores guitarristas del mundo, afortunadamente los he escuchado en vivo a angel y pepe y puedo asegurar que han sido los mejores conciertos que he escuchado en mi vida
what is the name of this part he is playing and who rote it
thanks

@Y2H I think this version of Canarios was written by Gaspar Sanz.-------at least, that is how it is attributed in one of my books of sheet music.

Wowo Pepe Romero's 1856 Torres sounds really great!! I would walk 999km just to hear the sounds of it live.

thats not a torres thats a miguel rodriguez who is one of angels favorite makers as you can see why
dwarvengiant 4 years ago
awesome clarification ~
I wonder how do you( and we in general) find out the guitar used in particular concert by particular guitarist?
watercolour 4 years ago
you can tell what luthier by the head stock even though many use a head stock similar to torres like hauser just to name one
