  • Crap computer

  • fucking awesome review man! thanks alot for this!

  • nicee job

  • Still saw the computer name

  • Im watching this on my Dell Vostro 3350 (:

  • Really nice review. Thanks for doing this.

  • @awesomeapproved no problem, glad that my time wasn't wasted.

  • how do i turn on the numpad?

  • How long is the battery life? PLZ answer

  • @SkullCandyBaby16 hi there, i get about 4 maximum 5 hours of browsing out of it with the standard battery pack (4 cell). I have the backlit keypad and the screen brightness is about 25%.

  • amazing review . everything a buyer wants to know when it comes to hard-to-find tech specs (7mm hdd).

    well done .

  • I have a question, I don't know why but the scroll up at the right side of the touchpad (Vostro 3350) is not working, could you please help me? The touchpad had already turn on

  • @hell258456 well...I would suggest getting in Control Panel/ Mouse and the first menu is for Dell Touchpad. Click on it to configure the (many) options. On mine by default scrolling is done with two fingers.

  • how much weight?

  • Hi :) thank you for the video.

I'm thinking about buying a laptop but i'm not sure whether to buy this one , or the vostro 3450 one. got some question about this one you have :) :

    1. I found most components are quite the same except that the screen size in 3350 is 13 '' and the 3450 is 14- and still, the price of 3350 is more expensive than the latter..do you know why is that maybe? is3350 newer ?

    2. you probably got the chance to use it for a while - how r u doing with the keyboard now?

  • @MajinMan 1. Screen of 3450 is the same resolution which is not too high. I would prefer 3350

    2. I love the keyboard, I have the backlit one.

The one main deterrent for me when I looked to buy the laptop was the fact that 3450 has the HDD field replaceable, not customer replaceable. Meaning that it is very hard to replace/ upgrade it to an SSd, etc. and you can void warranty, Aside from that they are pretty much the same thing. 3350 is about the same price, only a few $s more. Good luck!

  • Hey bought the laptop :) how do i adjust the keyboard backlight ?

  • @realsoccerdude123 If you have it it is Fn+F6. You have a couple of brightness steps to choose from. Once enabled it comes on every time you touch the keyboard and turns off by itself after a while. I don't know how you set that timer, if you can. Enjoy your Vostro!

  • @mevnet Thank you for your review i found it very usefull, to bad dell does not have the backlit keyboard as a configurable option for the vostro.

I wonder if only the base model lacks the backlit keyboard or that its different per country.

  • @m4r71jn In Canada the I3 version does not have the option of backlit keypad (but you can buy it separately from Dell Parts and install yourself). As far as I know all other versions come with it by default. Enjoy!

  • geat review

but i just want u to try the microphones on the laptop. i had an inspiron which js very old but the mic is really nice when i tried and recorded a short track.

may u pls try to record and tell me what u think about it

  • @HH99HH99HH Hi there, I use the internal microphone sometimes for VoIP. If anything, it would work better than the old one you had. This Vostro has 2 microphones (to the left and right of the camera) so it can do effective beamforming and noise cancellation. Together with the "Andrea Microphone Technology" that comes installed you can create profiles and adjust it to your liking. It works quite well if not very well for what it is.

  • Does it have Intel HD graphics 3000 or does it have Intel HD 2000? Also did you get MS OFFice 2010 started edition free ?

  • @realsoccerdude123 hi there, it has the 3000 and it did come preinstalled with Office 2010 starter, but I believe it was a trial only. I don't remember exactly, it was the first thing I uninstalled.

  • @mevnet Thanks for the reply...but pre installed? as far as I know you don't even have Windows 7 Installed onto your laptop if its packed.you should've got CDs for windows 7 and Office10.

Also I read at places that the inbuilt speaker sound is very soft and low is this true?

  • @realsoccerdude123 Hi again, it was preinstalled on mine. I might have it together with all recovery and driver CDs that came with it but like I said I did not use it. The built in speaker is pretty good for what it is. It is just one and it's pretty loud, good enough for the occasional use. As with all built in speaker expect it to respond better to the midrange frequencies. It is firing downward, and it is located on the left side of the keyboard underneath.

  • Thanks for explaing regarding the 3450 and the hard drive sizes. That's very disappointing by DELL.

Also they should start including two speakers on small laptops it shouldn't be that hard.

  • Can this specs play sims 2?..Lol a loyal fan of sims 2.. XD

  • @moneymakingkid A quick search reveals that the min for Sims 2 is:

Processor: 800 MHz processor or equivalent

    RAM: 256mb

    Video Memory: 32mb

    Hard Drive Space: 3.5gb

    Operating System: Windows 98/2000/ME/XP

    DirectX Version: v9.0

So I don't think you'd have a problem running it on this Vostro, even with the I3 config and 2Gb RAM.

  • Can it run Mine Craft?

  • @johncod444 Given its processing power I don;t think it would have any issues running Minecraft if it is the one game that I know with that name

  • @mevnet

    But can it run Nethack?

  • Please, i want to know more about the speaker. You just briefly talked about it. I read many things but nothing clear. What's your opinion? thanks a lot!

  • @sighange As you probably know the 3350 has only one speaker located on the left hand side (tiny opening under the unit, left of the touchpad area). It is surprisingly loud but I wouldn't call it anything else. It definitely does the job for occasional use. Otherwise the sound quality is great if you use a pair of speakers or a headset.

  • @mevnet Thanks

  • lenovo thinkpad t420 or t420s are way better than this laptop and more durable

  • Comment removed

  • @lbaquerizo This may be true, but Thikpads are more expensive. And AFAIK there no t420/t420s with dedicated graphics.

  • Most important to me, is this machine heavy and bulky?

  • @GoldenDurian I wouldn't call it the slimmest out there, but the price reflects that. It is the normal new laptop height when including the 4 cell battery, I understand that the 8 cell sticks out to the bottom a bit. I don't think it can be called heavy, it is very portable that's for sure. Here is from Dell

    Dimension: 12.96"/329.2mm

    Depth: 9.00"/228.5mm

    Height: (front/back) 1.07"-1.17"/27.3-29.8mm

Starting weight: 4.50lb/2.04kg(4-cell battery + optical drive)

  • @mevnet I've read from a couple of different reviews that the screen colour reproduction isn't that great and it also has a grainy feel to it. Also, people generally seem to say that the viewing angles are not very good. What is your take on the quality of the screen? Do you notice ghosting occurring when playing videos? As of this writing, dell has a promotion going: Core i5 2410m, 4gb ram, 8 cell battery, integrated hd 3000, backlit keyboard all for 699 Canadian. Do you think it's worth it?

  • @jsmithfreshprince hey, because this screen has a flat/ matte look the perceived contrast of the image is lower hence the "color reproduction" reports. If you look at any LCD screen from close distance you will see the individual pixels. At the normal viewing distance I do not find this screen to be worse than others that i've used, not the best either. Viewing angles - keep in mind this is a TN screen, so it performs as one. IPS diplays are in a different class. I believe that is a good deal!

  • @jsmithfreshprince BTW, I just posted a video about the screen quality and before/ after calibration.

  • Hi mevnet, I would like to know how good the keyboard is along with the touch pad. I normally like to have my touch pad further to the right, but this one is a bit farther left. What are your comments on this? One more thing - is this a good laptop for portability (how heavy?) and low end gaming? Thanks in advance.

  • @Tuscanic hi there, i like the keypad a lot; it is not flimsy and the keys provide good feedback. If you have the backlit one it's lovely. Touchpad - no complains, I usually don't use it but it works well. What I don't like is the touchpad buttons- the sound is of a cheap toy click, I can't believe they did't think about it. Being positioned a bit to the left doesn't feel unnatural when using it, I'm right handed. I hope this helps.

  • @mevnet What kind of Netbooks do you recommend then? I would like one with a 6 hour battery life + 2GB RAM.

  • @Tuscanic I'm sorry but this is a loaded question that I cannot answer. Depending on what you're planning to run on it you can find a lot of laptops in many configurations. This Vostro 3350 laptop performs very well for my needs, that I can tell you.

  • @mevnet No problem.

  • I received my Vostro 3350 a few days ago. I've noticed it gets pretty warm on the lower right hand side (touchpad area) and less so slightly above that area. Wondering if you have noticed the same thing or any other heat issues?

    (i5 w. Intel HD 3000)

  • @TheSpacePenguin Mine is getting warm around the fingerprint reader, from under the keypad down to the Intel and M$ stickers. But nowhere close to the touchpad area. Right under the touchpad is the HDD, maybe yours is running hotter than mine? I have the Seagate Momentus Thin-250Gb. No other heat issues that I can talk about, I have the i3, HD3000 as well.

  • how much did you pay for this?

  • @kcolin6701 Pretty much what you see on dell dot ca website

  • It's better if you blur your Windows 7 serial!!!!

  • i have this laptop with i5 and amd radeon hd 6470. i love it :)

  • very interesting looking. only 2 gigs of ram is a bit low for being new. too few usb also. i dont think i would get one of these

  • Does this laptop have a backlit keyboard?

  • @lander77477

This laptop, the 3350-i3 version for Canada, does not come with the backlit keyboard and does not have the backlit keyboard as an option. All i5 abd i7 ones have the backlit keyboard as the default option. If you choose the different configuration you will see that the keyboard description is different.

  • You review a laptop, which is a portable computer, without any mention about the main factor that makes it a portable computer: battery life.

    So, hows the battery?

  • @xAcerxAspirex

hi there, good point. After a few charge cycles I was able to get 3-4 hours with a mix of browsing and media streaming. This i3 3350 comes with a 4 cell battery. They have a 8 cell battery as an option as well.

  • I just got my laptop a week ago! it was a very solid laptop. Build quality was pretty close to vaio. I made the right decision of not paying $300 extra premium for the vaio. I bought the i5 2410 with 8 cell battery. Battery life averages about 7.5 hours. I dont very nice laptop. The only thing that annoys me is that hardware volume control buttons doesn't control headset volume. I clean installed windows. So, I am not sure if i'm not installing the right drivers...

  • You say the laptop will only take the slim 7mm drives. On the crucial site, if you specify this laptop, all crucial recommends are the standard 9.5mm SSD's.

Is this a blunder on the side of crucial? Are you absolutely sure the 3350 will only take a 7mm SSD?

  • @fguihen

yes, i have talked to techsupport and they confirmed the 7mm drive. The drive installed is ST250LT007, the 7mm Seagate Momentus Thin, you can google it.

Intel 320 and X25-M SSDs are 7mm drives with a black, plastic spacer that can be removed. It has screws in the corners of the drive, removing it doesn't affect warranty. I hope this helps.

  • @mevnet

Cool, thanks for confirming. Wish they would ship the hard disk with the shorter screws. Not a chance of getting them today. Will have to wait over a week to get them online. God Damn Crucial.

  • @mevnet

FYI, as it uses the seagate momentus thin 320gb, the laptop can actually take a regular 9.5mm HD, as when configuring it on the dell site, you can purchase up to 750gb HD, which is not available in 7mm. Problem is if you order it with the 350GB, the bracket will not hold both hard disks.

  • @fguihen well, we both know more about iit, don't we?:) The back plastic cover has some spacers buit in, wondering if there is the extra 3mm in there for a 9.5mm HDD. For the metal bracket, maybe you can use longer screws? Let me know how it goes with the Crucial SSD, thanks

  • @mevnet

Just got my 3350, it came with a 320 gb samsung drive, and it is a standard 9.5mm. Lots of worry over nothing! My 9.5mm crucial M4 fits like a glove!

Awesome little laptop, feels very sturdy, lovely keyboard, decent trackpad. Im very happy with this one.

  • @fguihen

Thanks for the feedback. So both 9.5 and 7mm drives fit in the 3350. Now I have to find out if there is a different bracket for the 9.5mm HDDs. I have asked Dell techsupport and...they told me again that only 7mm hard drives could fit in the 3350 and that the laptop "is not compatible with SSDs". Go figure...

  • Thank you for reviewing this notebook. I've been searching for WEEKS since its release and found NOTHING you reviewed it. And thank you for actually going into the Windows Experience Index! Great video!

  • @ryanbane

No problem. BTW, the new A03 video driversincrease the Graphics performace quite a bit, to 5.7

  • How's the battery life on this one? How long does it take to go "out of power"? I'm considering buying this one, it looks very neat.

  • @adijux

This one (the Core I3) comes with the 4 cell battery. After a few charging cycles I would get somewhere between 3-4 hours when using wi-fi, no BT, browsing and streaming media. I use sleep mode and for that it is very quick. Shut down probably takes a couple of seconds, but if it bothers you an ssd would make it almost instant.

  • @mevnet Thanks for a swift response. Good review, by the way!

  • what do u think about the built quality?

and what about the heat and especially the fan noise?

usually the fans are pretty loud in dells so what about it?

  • @edishyti1

I've used a Latitude D630 and E6510 now. D630 was silent, except for heavy CPU load. E6510 (I5 2.5Ghz) has the fan constantly on, even for basic Office work. Not loud but audible.

This 3350 (i3 2310 at 2.1Ghz), with the Dell power profile is silent most of the time. When the fan comes on briefly is not loud (like E6510)

Built quality is very good, feels solid and well refined.

The only area that gets warm is below the fingerprint reader, where the WiFi and HDD are.

    I hope this helps

  • @mevnet

thanks man. really helpful. thanks a lot.

  • nice video and laptop, thanks
