I haven't played the game in years. Is the method that you described used to do a pseudo water spin, but you end up shooting a wide spray of water forward instead? I no longer own the game, so there is no way for me to be sure.
You made one of the most annoying levels in the game (in my opinion) look so damn easy! Well done, seriously.

to do it whicle jumping, click R and press A while in midair.
