  • Can somebody tell me, how much is duration of one new moon phase? For example, in 16.01 was third quater- whether the impact of this phase will last until the new moon?

    Thanks!

  • Who lives on the dark side? why don't we go back...

  • It's 2012, why are all pictures of the moon still in black and white??

  • this video helped me a lot in teaching my daughter on the phases of the moon...

  • not every month, every 27 days

  • LISA BONET HOWDY CALLBACK

  • hell ya test tomorrow!

  • Why the fucking stupid annoying narration is omnipresent in present documentaries? Is it because we're more stupid now and need child like introduction to keep our attention? "We always wonder the phases of the moon!" oh great, is that one of many reason why we look for this thing in the first place? Why Is it so hard to give a strait, scientific, non-bullshit- taking- the-audience-for-idiot, shitty bass drum music, diarrhea alike sound effects explanation of things? Fuck you.

  • @CroissantOrange Because it's funny, since it pissed off people like you.

  • watch this first, then go listen to that moon rap and you are ready for any exam.

  • thumbs up if your searching the moon phases, cause your learning new truth, regarding the lunar sabbath.

  • moon spins and rotates 13 times. we always see the same side, so the video representation here is not accurate. thank you moon for being big enough and avoiding major meteorites. the rotation of the earth around the earth has allowed life here. i hope other civilizations won't try stealing it from us, as it has happened in the past. reptilians stole the moon from mars a long ago. remember. welcome to , my new expensive religion.

  • It's the planetary and geometrical proportions that amaze me, although the metric system obscures things. A pyramid is proportionaly the earth (diameter-base) and moon (apex). The circular orbital perimeter of the moon = the square perimeter of the Earth (earth in a square). "M-O-O-N... that spells moon", as Tom Cullen, the simpleton from "The Stand" proudly said. He was wise to be facinated. It acts as earth's shield from meteorites, as it shielded him from the demonic influences.

  • This is the first video where I see the moon turning around itself...... hmmmmmmm.

    Thumb down.

  • @shonkhuulai The moon does rotate on its axis. The reason we always see the same face is because the time taken for one lunar rotation = the time taken for 1 lunar orbit of the earth. The phenomenon is called synchronous rotation. The dark side of the moon has huge crater, like an eye. Looking at my earlier comment about the pyramid being proportionally identical to the earth and moon, it reminds me of that symbol with the eye on top of a pyramid.

  • WATCH THE ARRIVALS!!

  • i was expecting the voice from modern marvels.... lol

  • Hello, I am starting up a site similar to YouTube but it will only be for educational purposes so that teachers can use videos as part of their lessons in schools. Would you be willing to upload your video to my new site to help me get started? There is no cost to you of course, I just need some people to start uploading educational videos to the site. Thanks

  • the size of the sun is also not accurate, according to these sizes we wouldn't be able to see a full moon because the earth would shield the moon from the sun rays, however, in reality the sun is 109 times bigger than the earth so it is impossible for the earth to shield the moon from sun light. The reflection of the sun rays that fall on the moon cause a full moon when the moon, earth and sun align.

  • @CyrusReborn no, it's not the shadow of earth. The moon is always illumited on one side by the sun and the other is dark. We see different parts of the lighted side depending on where the moon is in relation to the earth. When the moon is in a certain position, we ONLY see the dark side and that's a new moon. On the flipside we sometime see only the lighted side, that's a full moon and everything in between we see as it travels from the new moon position to the full moon (crescent)

  • @rigso321 oops mean to reply to @momowowo16

  • @rigso321 learn to read maybe? I wasn't talking about New Moon, but Full Moon and the incorrect display of sizes of this video.

  • @CyrusReborn wow no need to be rude, i might have misread but my comment wasn't mean spirited just trying trying to educate. anonymity on the internet makes everyone a tough guy i guess.

  • did anyone see the moon last night it set in the north west which i thought was strange and just the top left about 1/8 had the black cover which also looked extra black and extra strange, some weird things are going on.

  • i dont get how some parts of the moon are luminated

so the part thats black is it the shadow part of the earth on the moon??

  • samsung fucking galaxy commercials

  • this video talks about everything except what the title says it does

  • Wish it was a bit more in depth explanations with more animations.. come on history channel do a nice comprehensive show about these basic things about our closest celestial neighbor.. I love the HISTORY CHANNEL

  • the sign in name for me is incorrect, but my colleague would agree!

  • This video has a big mistake in it. While Moon does spin, the same side of Moon always faces Earth. As Moon goes around Earth, the amount of the (same) side facing us that is lit is what changes. This animation is incorrect. If you just look at the amount of the circle that is lit and connect that with the phase name, you're OK.

  • @drduvall Oh my gosh! I noticed the same thing! What's with that?!

  • i have a test on this tomorrow lol :)

  • had to watch this 4 school i thought it would be boring but its pretty cool

  • this video is really helpful thank you who ever uploaded it :)

  • i love this show

  • i never knew that tha moon is moving and rotating WOW!

  • i thought the moon didnt rotate

  • @Trouterr it does but we always see the same side

  • @JMnDC4eva how do we always see the same side if it rotates?

  • @Trouterr Because it circles the earth in exactly the same time (about 28 days) as it rotates on its axis, so it always keeps the same side towards us.

the side that faces away from the sun is dark, but as the moon rotates the darkness travels around as well, so we do actually see a dark side at new moon.

  • @JMnDC4eva haha oh i guess that counts as rotating lol. seems more liek you tie a string to a ball and swirl it around in a circle and the same side points to you the whole time and it isnt actually rotating

  • its gay

  • I don't understand how there can be a new moon at night when it is between the Earth and the Sun. Doesn't that mean that the part of earth facing the moon is facing the sun too, making it day?

  • @al100570ex

Yes, that is exactly right. The new moon is only up during the daytime, and it appears close to the sun in the sky. During a new moon, the far side of the moon is illuminated, and the face of the moon (the side we see) is dark...because it is facing away from the sun. Also, the new moon is invisible because it is lost in the bright glare of the sun.

  • @norman4lyf alright thanks. All I needed to hear was that it's not in the night sky at all. I just remember seeing the new moon at night at some point, but I guess I was just imagining things. Thanks for the explanation.

  • omg this is like so scary =0

  • Great video! I like that the information is understandable to people who don't have much knowledge about astronomy. The visual is also great.

  • Very nice, but I am looking for more explanation on the eight phases.

  • Check out 10:5. Quran.

  • its nice to know the dark side of the moon gets light once in a while ;)

  • i like the other narrator

  • @WitlessMean what do you mean by that .. ?

  • Well, Im sure that was an inappropriate comment. I think the moon, as a part of Earth, is quite interesting. I find myself thinking about it, and its phases and when it turns orange. I am a teenager not interested in studies what so ever, but still find it to be extrordinary.

  • ppl think this is bad i think is funny
