Is that fair? 'Bad circumstances' is not representing the horrors some people live in. People can improve their lives, however, that doesn't make it easy or even seemingly possible. People are impoverished in America, people have to worry about when they will eat next as opposed to when they can go to college. Poverty is a vicious cycle through generations, and it's extremely difficult to overcome sometimes.
In every society, there is poverty. Capitalism, Socialism, Communism, Fascism, Religious Dictatorial Regimes. Poverty can never disappear. The only thing we can do is minimize it.
Capitalism is the only system where people can lift themselves out of poverty.
It's a big mistake to hurt the people at the top, b/c that doesn't work to help the impoverished. It's better to give the impoverished more incentives and pave the way for them to rise up.

The only way you eliminate social gaps is if nobody has any money, property, or assets. We're equally poor and miserable, but equal nonetheless.
Wealthy people also have inheritance, they have a life of power. 'Work' is a relative term. Wealthy people tend to have the ability to do what they want from, essentially, birth. They are likely to go to college, to have a better education as children, to pursue any field, to mess up. I am wealthy. I understand that. Wealthy people can become poor, but it's far more unlikely then them maintaining wealth, because unless it's squandered, they have generations of wealth behind them.
It is what it is. But if you're not educated and you don't work hard, even if you were born wealthy, you will ultimately lose your wealth.
I've seen people who were once wealthy and inherited from their moms and dads to ultimately lose it in bad investments and making bad business decisions.
That was only an example, this can refer to anyone who is repressed as well. Difficulty from birth can be no worse than difficulty presented in the world. Even if it was only a minority, they can't be ignored--do you propose no government intervention there? Where is the line drawn?

Government should have little involvement in our economy. Government should only serve as an authority that oversees fraud and corruption. Government should not have the authority or power to confiscate one person's assets and redistribute it to someone else. When you give government that authority, what's to stop them from taking more? Do you want to live in an economy where the government dictates who is wealthy and who is poor? I believe the markets should dictate such, not the govt.

Wealthy people are prepared to be as such, in poor communities, this isn't so much an option, to obtain wealth you have to be educated and have connections, it's incredibly difficult to get a good education when no one around you is helping you, when there are more pressing matters.
Yes, wealth is harder to obtain. But increasing income taxes, makes it much harder to obtain.
Government can't tax wealth, except for property, it mainly taxes income.
When you tax income at 40%, it makes it that much harder to accumulate wealth.
A poor man is taken care of by the government when he is poor, but should he try to lift himself up out of poverty, the Govt will knock him back down and tax him at 40%, which makes it all harder to move up the ladder.
Government is only an obstacle for those entrenched in greed and have more than they need. That wasn't meant to rhyme, sheer luck on my part. I just dislike when Obama can get away things Bush wouldn't have. Maybe it's okay in your mind to wish death upon someone, but a conservative comedian would have been pilloried for it
I brought them up for exactly the reasons I stated, it was directly related to the Limbaugh issue, but you pulled them completely out of context and made a wild generalization.
And to say Obama gets away with stuff Bush wouldn't have is just crazy. I agree he gets away with too much but Bush got away with trampling the constitution, destroying America's good name, abusing prisoners, spying on innocent Americans, politicizing the supreme court and god only knows what else.
But Bush was rightly condemned and vilified by the media. Obama is not. Only Fox has the audacity to challenge him (I knw they are being hypocritical as they condoned Bush's government expansion etc. but by that measure every media channel is)
He's being vilified now, and during the last months of his presidency, when public opinion was clearly extremely low but not during his presidency. Certainly not during the times the patriot act was cooked up or habeas corpus was suspended.
Now I will agree (most of) the media are a bunch of spineless yes-men. But sadly journalism is all but dead. They simply show on TV whatever sells the most, whatever gives them the most ad revenue.
And trust me I am not a big fan of Obama's either. ;)

The problem with political commentators is that they distort the truth and attack people and never give the opposing side a chance to defend themselves. They invite people on their shows, but if you don't agree with them, they interrupt you to the point of yelling curse words at you and then tell reiterate their beliefs and never let you get a word in edge wise.

Many times, I hear many Liberals call in and they just rant in a monologue and don't even attempt to have a dialogue with the host and the host has to cut them off, b/c it's not the caller's show.
Many times, the callers also dodge questions asked by the host and then switch subjects and try to deflect the argument.

Why is it the Government's role to help certain people? No where is that guaranteed in the Constitution. Government is designed to protect the citizens while they pursue their destiny.
Granted, some people are born in very good circumstances, but the system requires people to work in order to maintain it. Others are born into bad circumstances, but they have a chance to pull themselves up and improve their lives.
I see wealthy kids grow up to be poor and poor kids grow up to be wealthy.

Is that fair? 'Bad circumstances' is not representing the horrors some people live in. People can improve their lives, however, that doesn't make it easy or even seemingly possible. People are impoverished in America, people have to worry about when they will eat next as opposed to when they can go to college. The low working class is weakest in Capitalism, because Capitalism is so efficient regarding money, not people. It requires some people to be nothing but work horses for the 'entrepreneurs' or it wouldn't be profitable.
There is significantly less for the poor in capitalism.

There is plenty for everybody in Capitalism. Everyone wins under Capitalism. The Entrepreneur makes profits, the Laborer profits off his hard work, and the consumers profit as they get the products and services that they want, need, and desire.
There will always be social gaps as there will be students who get an A,B,C,D, or flat out fail an exam.
The only way you eliminate social gaps is if nobody has any money, property, or assets. We're equally poor and miserable, but equal nonetheless.

Wealthy people also have inheritance, they have a life of power. 'Work' is a relative term. Wealthy people tend to have the ability to do what they want from, essentially, birth. They are likely to go to college, to have a better education as children, to pursue any field, to mess up. I am wealthy. I understand that. Wealthy people can become poor, but it's far more unlikely then them maintaining wealth, because unless it's squandered, they have generations of wealth behind them.

Government should have little involvement in our economy. Government should only serve as an authority that oversees fraud and corruption. Government should not have the authority or power to confiscate one person's assets and redistribute it to someone else. When you give government that authority, what's to stop them from taking more? Do you want to live in an economy where the government dictates who is wealthy and who is poor? I believe the markets should dictate such, not the govt.

Wealthy people are prepared to be as such, in poor communities, this isn't so much an option, to obtain wealth you have to be educated and have connections, it's incredibly difficult to get a good education when no one around you is helping you, when there are more pressing matters.

Yes, wealth is harder to obtain. But increasing income taxes, makes it much harder to obtain.
Government can't tax wealth, except for property, it mainly taxes income.
When you tax income at 40%, it makes it that much harder to accumulate wealth.
A poor man is taken care of by the government when he is poor, but should he try to lift himself up out of poverty, the Govt will knock him back down and tax him at 40%, which makes it all harder to move up the ladder.
Govt is an obstacle.

Just as in Larry Flynt's Supreme Court case, this is SATIRE, and that's what comedians do- Personally, it's still too soon for any joke that involves 9/11, and any joke that wishes someone to die is inviting some REAL BAD KARMA- but hey, that's just me... Wanda Sykes was over the line, but fortunately for her and all Americans, we're guaranteed that right, as long as it doesn't cause a crime to be committed. To say that Rush was the 20th 9/11 hijacker but was too strung out on oxy's, was in poor taste, but at least it wasn't like O'reilly's rant against an abortion doctor that ultimately got that doctor killed. It's not about profanity, it's about the tastelessness and crassness of wishing someone dead. Limbaugh "insults" are usually in relation to fundamental political differences he has with a far-left President. That's to be expected. I don't think he has stated that he hoped that the President dies.

He's stated that he wishes his policy to fail, which would result in the death of many Americans (and probably foreigners) which is arguably even worse.
The thing is what Wanda Sykes said were _jokes_. I hate that extreme-rightwinger Limbaugh too and I might say "I wish he'd drop dead" but obviously you don't take that literally. She's a comedian.
Now you can find certain jokes tasteless, that's your good right, but does that mean the rest of the country has to comply with your sensibilities?

No. Limbaugh was very explicit in saying he wanted Obama to fail in pushing through his agenda i.e he wanted his proposals to be shot down by legislature. Limbaugh clarified repeatedly that he did not what US to fail, only Obama's policies, which are destined to ruin the US. Obma's policies will result in the death of Americans (e.g you will have a European health system) You have betrayed your callousness by suggesting that Americans dying is less bad than foreigners. But the point isn't that Limbaugh is an ass, the point is that Sykes made some jokes about someone in the public eye. Again you might consider them tasteless but they weren't made to please you personally. IF people aren't allowed to make tasteless jokes we might as well stop having comedians.

Of course comedians can say what they want, but not at official functions, because it gives the impression that the US government has endorsed her message. Limbaugh. maybe on the right, but he is certainly not extreme. His views on social policy are heavily on the right but he tempers that by being a centrist as regards the economy.

Number one, Obama is a centrist. The only reason you think he's far left is because the radical right wing has controlled the national dialog for years. Obama's policies are still right of center compared to any other developed country. If you want to talk about freedom let's mention the Patriot act and illegal wiretapping.

He's being vilified now, and during the last months of his presidency, when public opinion was clearly extremely low but not during his presidency. Certainly not during the times the patriot act was cooked up or habeas corpus was suspended.
Now I will agree (most of) the media are a bunch of spineless yes-men. But sadly journalism is all but dead. They simply show on TV whatever sells the most, whatever gives them the most ad revenue.
And trust me I am not a big fan of Obama's either. ;)
