Also, these children were not being educated appropriately. US law requires public schooling or homeschooling equivalent for all children up to age 16, and kids who have left FLDS have not tested at an age-appropriate educational level. If the parents were asked to either send their kids to a qualified public or private school OR to modify the homeschooling to meet educational guidelines, and the parents didn't comply with the request, THEN the kids should be removed. I agree that the parents should be given a chance to FIX an educational situation. 1.)"PARENT/Guardian's" care is important. However, the word "mother" is exclusionary. There are many single fathers & adoptive parents/guardians who raise children well.

2.)In cases of abuse/neglect there IS reason to remove the child. Here, kids experienced underage marriage/sexual abuse. This is reason enough to remove a child from the home, assuming the parents were aware of the abuse and allow it to continue.

I hope you realize that FLDS people (Warren Jeffs' followers) are NOT affiliated with the ACTUAL Mormon (LDS) church. They broke AWAY from the LDS church because LDS STOPPED condoning polygamy over 100 years ago. FLDS is not the same thing as Mormon. They are not Mormons at all--they are their own breakaway group who happens to use the Book of Mormon in their worship, but has interpreted the Book of Mormon in a VERY DIFFERENT way than LDS Mormons do. LDS members do NOT have racist teachings.
