Hey dude don't make fun of the sony hc3 camera, its video quality is as good as the sony fx1- in good light conditions :D
anyway...I've got a question: would you recommend the rode ntg 2 or do you think the sennheiser mke 300 is good enough for voice/music recording ? What do you think are the differences(pro/contra) between both mics ?
I personally like the panasonic dvx100b. It has a better quality, in my opinion, and better for darker situations. I'm just saving up to get the pana HVX200, full 1080p HD!
PETE ,, need more input,,,, more technical information, what is the best audio codec to use in video without compressing the s*** out of it i dont care what any 1 says they all loose bits.......
were making some films and we need a good microphone. because we have choosen our camera which is a canon hv20 but were not sure about a boom microphone do you have any suggestions?
Hey p, I need a camera as good as this for under a grand (in pounds). Im willing to drop some quality, since I wont get anything that good for that price, but can you recommend any good camera's?
well, do you want to be SD or HD? Tape or Tape less? with so much happening at the moment, it's hard to pick when you ask such a question.
if you're going with Standard def with tapes, Panasonic do very good cameras. The NV-GS500 is the closest you will get to Production quality without going over £1000. I don't know any good Hard disc recorders for standard def.
A great HD hard disc camcorder is the Panasonic HDC-SD5EG, but there very pricey at the moment.
thanks. The probelm for most young film producers is that they're so expensive, although Apple recently lowered the price of final cut, which is GREAT!
i'm going to buy a fx1e real soon with the sony hvl-lbp light (and other accesories). how is the stock microphone on this camera? any other downsides on this camera?
the built in microphone (like on all camcorders) is naff. don't let that discourage you though, it's a great camera all round (so long as you know what you're doing) I've shot with it for over a year and a half and it's not let me down yet. The HDV footage looks brilliant and would recommend this camera for anyone who's planning to do shorts right upto filming an entire film.
the FX1 doesn't come with XLR connections, which sucks.
the Z1 does have XLR input, but what I would go for if you really want XLR for the same price (if not cheaper) is the Sony HVR-A1E, only thing against it is it has a CMOS image sensor rather than three CCDs, I personally don't think CMOS chips look as good as 3CCDs
Hey man. I really enjoy your videos. I was wondering if you could fill me in on the HDR-HC3. I'm buying the HC5, the slightly updated version, and I would really like to know you're thoughts on the camera. Thanks.
Can really talk about the HC5 in detail but there what you should look out for (these were the things i didn't like about the HC3)
1; I/O, make sure that it's got a mic in line as the internal mic (and this goes of every camera) is rubbish, or at least you can get a shotgun mic to sit on top of you're camera when you buy the new camera.
I have the pmd660, it's the keyword I searched to get to this video, and I don't think you could have done better, maybe you could have went for the 670, but the 660 is more compact. The remote is a switch that can be straped to the mic, boom or wrist, and it alows for pressing record and pause via the remote where ever you might have straped it. I feel it is really limited as you can't start a new recording, and you can also mess up the recording you made by pressing the "mark" button.
Do you use a Blimp with your NTG2?

you can have as much equipment as you like, but if your production standards are piss poor then none of it is worth having!

on was from jessops (over priced) the other one in silver was from a parts shop of auto motive items.
petro1986 4 years ago
I take it you just get a 'slab' of foam that you cut to fit your stuff?

My best choice would be for a HD camera with tapes, and thats a Canon HV20, it's got almost everything you would need, and it's under £600.

I got precisely the same clapperboard! They were selling that one and a small kids one!

is it true that the fx1 has no xlr ports? is it posible to use a rode ntg-2 with the fx1? Cheers.

Hey man, like your films.
I'm thinking of buying the NTG-1 or 2--need a better shotgun mic. What's your opinion on its recording performance? Seems good for the price so far...

Err, don't know about the NTG-1, but. I'm very happy with the NTG-2 i've got. if thats any help?
