  • very luck guys..paragliding crayz sports and danger..

  • Those stupid boys don't get it how serious this tool is!!! Just becouse you saw someone in some movie do something with a paraglider doesn't mean you even have a clue what to do!

    You just got lucky, boys!

Keep up this way and we'll see how much luck you actually have!

  • FUCKING MORONS OF THE YEAR !

  • You guys really did capture the "spirt" of why us adventure types or any type trys anything new in the first place..... Hell, the human race wouldn't even be here if each and every single one of us didn't try something new to us once.... Yes, that would be sex ! and I am sure this was almost as thrilling.... till you learned it was "dangourous" continue to keep the spirt alive guys.... and yourselves while your at it! Thanks again...

  • I just learned of this sport last night @ 1am and its 6pm right now... and cant stop researching it.... I have never commented before but really want to thank you guys for saving my life...... before seeing this, I thought I had learned all that there is to know.... and was going to dump 7 grand.... and give it a go myself... No longer... Thank you for not deleting this, Please tell the guys that I am nameing my first child either Barney or Sue... =)

  • I also taught myself to fly, but first you must learn the art of groundhandeling , how to take off in high winds and how to react if the parachute(wing) clolapse. You've got a lot of shots on the internet and they explain in detail how to operate a paraglider and to do this safely as possible.

  • crazy, did Barney fly again???

  • although im still amazed by your persistence and sheer determination to win a darwin award, you were very close of actually getting it

  • its people like you who are giving the sport a bad reputation

  • holy bejezuz good for you, very very risky but thats the spirit that created the sport.

  • A student of mine sent me this, if you are thinking of taking the sport up as serious occupation I suggest source a school through the BHPA near to you. freeflightbrighton.co.uk

  • Its clear none of you had a clue about the dangers you were facing... Had there been a spinal injury or death then once again people would habe been saying how reckless paraglider pilots are. Where as most of us have been trained and know the risks... you are all idiots who knew nothing of the risks you were facing,

  • crazyyy but Fun......

  • crazyyyy

  • Did any of you take it up after this?

  • this is one of the best vids on utube lol

  • Very stupid thing to do.

  • Raga... ma siete fuori? Prendi una chiusura a 10 metri e sei morto!

  • What a hoot..........Now TAKE LESSONS! You made so many very dangerous mistakes, it is amazing that someone did not go home seriously broken. TAKE LESSONS. Read, learn, helmets, gloves, knowledge, intelligences. These things will help to keep you alive.

If you are someone thinking of doing this without lessons, DON'T!! These wings want to fly, but they are only bags of air and they need help from someone who is knowledgeable in control. Don't be stupid......

  • fuck me that was mental. some serios hieght with so many potentiol failures. obviously he unwittingly caught a large thermal and somehow did not get a canopy failure. jesus christ

  • @nickoswoos "somehow did not get a canopy failure. jesus christ" Well, I guess he had a reserve, or two, stowed in his harness for safety.

  • @NevilleStyke I dont know if your being sarcastic or not sorry - but I can bearly see a harness let alone a reserve. they look to be useing a speed rider harness almost...

  • @nickoswoos Yes, there was a little irony in there; I rather thought they were throwing caution to the wind!

  • is pretty funny though. schools would cringe :P

  • guys - wear a helmet. get profesional instruction. you can die.

  • god - how it didn't stall I've no idea .. brave but pretty stupid all the same ..... Darwinism at its finest!

  • Fuc...g crazy , fuc...g lucky and fuc...g stupid !

  • Are any of you boys still around?...

  • Well thank goodness the dog didn't latch on to the tether and go for a unwanted ride ride

  • Brilliant guys!! Yes it was dangerous, but at least you got off your butts & had a go. Just wish more people had the spirit you displayed.

  • looooooooool how he will get down thats the question

  • I think you guys did a great job, why don't you buy a helicopter off ebay and try flying that or build your own rocket and fly to the moon. Obviously very talented guys and not at all stupid.

  • god looks after ppl like this. but i really suggest getting proper training, and a new glider that WASN'T purchased off ebay.

  • Great video! Also scarry as hell. I'm a beginner, but watched a lot of PG accident on youtube. They happen quickly and unexpectedly.

I bought a glider on ebay for £120, tied myself to a pole for safety, went up 8 metre and then slammed into the ground twice. Never tie yourself, lockout will happen. Look it up.

My leg is better after two months. Still into the sport doing ground handling and trying to find instructor near Bristol.

Your guys have balls that's for sure. Be safe!

  • @janaatube good flying schools in wiltshire, not too far away?

  • I cant believe the comments on this site. Yeah they were taking a risk and yes they could have read up a bit before hand but a t least they were out there doing something... Crazy, possibly stupid but doing not hurting anyone... not keyboard warriors.. It looked like they had a great laugh!!!

  • You are lucky you did not sustain a serious head injury... or broken back!

  • Lucky Lucky .....have to thank the wing that save your life

  • @julioari you crazy buggers!! but hey thats how I started except it was in the sand dunes.. it goes to show you how stable our wings are. when with a basic understanding we can fly, even if it take one mate to tether, one to hold the "a"s and launch and one to hold the brakes.. thanks for a great post, I hope your all still flying and are now instructors ; )

  • They don't look any different to the experienced PG pilots I see around. Well actually a bit better actually.

  • why

  • Wear a helmet guys......

  • @saxophonetim wear a helemet shit...for this guy wear a brain is first ;-)

  • You are lucky you didn't lose him. A lot of people die that way--they just never make it back down.

  • Hey boys all of you are renowned now

  • kamikaze stayle. Must to be crazy make this. Need curses not like that. Lucky is not enybody dead. Please stop dooing like this.

  • @LocoMadMarius

:)) Fara suparare , dar nu ai vrea sa stii ce ai zis :))

  • Imagine yourselves in a wheelchair for the rest of your lives you retards. Spend 10 minutes reading a book about paragliding and you'll understand how careless and simple you are.

  • Everyone needs to come off their pedestal. By the time I get typing this. People have been killed in my country either by car or motorcycle. These guys have balls and it wasnt the smartist thing. But shit, thats living. There are flying alot better than other pilots I've seen with training.

  • Man who teaches himself to fly has a fool for a student.

  • OMG its not so much deaths door which they all were loitering around for some time.

its the fact that he went XC on his very first flight. lol

the odds of that not going wrong are amazing bigger than the lottery, on landing how did he avoid rotor without even knowing, no knowledge of tucs colapses,

  • It just goes to show how inherently safe a pg is....I mean what chance would any of us have in taking off and landing say a hang glider or ultralight 3 axis, especially in that wind! (with NO instruction)

  • You are just such an idiots that it is great fun to watch :) lovely video!

  • what are you doing...you only need a few day to take a lessons from any paragliding club...what you do Its dangerous and stupid....i am serius man...

  • The site looks good; where is it? The wing looks like an ITV Merak which was quite tasty in its day. If you look closely, you can actually see the Grim Reaper waiting at the bottom of the hill...

  • Spot on about the wing! The vid was on winder in the howgills. We learnt our lesson from a flight shortly after this one so it is no longer being used. planning on getting proper training when I get time

  • Funny as hell! FFS people get off your soap boxes and stop bitching about these guys and leave them to it. Its dangerous and stupid and could have killed but its a free country and their choice. They have not broken any laws as pargliding is 100% unregulated in UK. Live and let die!

  • @0eden0 live and let die... How accurate expression!

  • have guy mercy parachute?..who shure the wing dont break..?crazy :)

  • these people are lucky no one died this day.

  • Even very good pilots don't fly with winds so high. you didn't even need a towing with a rope to get airborne.

The slope was not that high but winds were too gusty to try this safely. Towing a pilot makes him lose control.

you at least should know how to control the wing , otherwise a stall is very possible. being that high did surely surprise the pilot, without knowing how to come back to earth.

Being careful when trying this is not enough.

  • I'm sorry, funny video but f*cking stupid. I am spending a lot of time training and you folks are just trying to kill yourself. Hope you didn't do it within a CTR..

  • 1:32 XD.. But seriously.. U should take lessons. thats just dumb..

  • I'd recommend paying the extra quid for lessons. ;)

  • You are unconscious, I have never seen weak the similar, one of you would have been able to have a grave accident. We see that you are beginners.

    You of the idiots.

  • I see no one unconcious here? idiots maybe, but all in perfect health.

  • Not clever or funny

  • Only one way to describe this ....... a potential suicide attempt. PLEASE DO NOT TRY THIS SHIT AT ANYTIME FOLKS.

  • What`s with the arms straight out?

  • Funny as hell, Stupid thing to do. get some training, helmet and and enjoy what looks like an awesome hang :)

  • Comment removed

  • there's just no keeping some people down, but it would SOOOOO help if even a little understanding of how to control a glider had been present, keep your arms out straight, why not try flapping them, oh, you might go higher even quicker. The higher the fewer and you're definitely in the fewest flewest, bet you lay eggs in other birds nests! Seriously friend, get some professional help or at least practice when the wind is less strong!

  • Yes but we must admit they do one thing good: they buy a great glider.

  • luckily for them, imagine if they'd bought a 2/3

i wonder if any of them were inspired to learn more

  • it is a 2!

  • looks like a 1/2 to me

  • LoooL "arm straight" and go into the light asshole... loool now u can proceed to next step in yours training: "reverse landing"

  • I see it again (12 time lol) and i think the guy in red is OK.He manage to do a Lazy&Eficient take off after he hit his had on the ground 3 times looool.

  • Mother fuckers u try to make me shit on me....looooooool u r goood keep do this....hahahahahahaha....hey can u believe this shit? hahahahahha

  • this was hilarious!! :-)

    dearing but not to be repeated i think, not even for them;

too bad we didn't see the last guys comment on his huge high flight!!

  • hahahaha, good on you, giving it a go next week, have decided to go on a course, this looks a bit shit or bust to me

  • j'ai jamais vu des inconscients pareil, de vrais débiles mon pauvres.

Il on t eu énormément de chances que rien de grave ne soit arrivé.

  • haha that's fucking crazy! legendary disregard for personal safety. what an experience that must have been!

  • Disregarding my thoughts about power lines, no reserve parachute, stalling. Or smacking into a tree, cliff, or being shredded over a barbed wire fence......... I found this very entertaining and funny.

But...... as a kid in the 60's I had a habit of playing on mainline railways, using paddling pools as rafts on fast flowing river (could not swim) climbing horrendous ruins, making explosives, fires etc....... Therefore my comments are worthless.......

    Barney should join the SAS

  • LMFAO, classic! Shows you how easy our sport is...

  • It's amazing how many nay-sayers are so eager to shake their bony fingers at everyone citing rules and regulations.

These people obviously have so little of interest in their own lives that they feel obligated to brow-beat some kids on YouTube over a video that was taken 5 YEARS AGO!!!

They were having fun! Try it sometime. All of life's risks don't have to be calculated in some manual you pompous bean counting morons! Pilots all think they're hot shit anyways...

  • Sensibleu you really have no idea. Its not a matter of finger wagging. Wait until you have attended a funeral or two of flyers who weren't so lucky as these idiots. Yeah they were having fun. They were lucky none of them were seriously hurt - not one helmet in sight. Proper training is essential in this sport. The wind can turn nasty quickly. You really should know a little about the sport before you have the temerity to criticise those who actually DO know what they are talking about. Twat!

  • Well, I do fly and I've engaged in quite a few high risk sports from motorcycling to scuba to paramotoring and I have seen friends die because they took unnecessary risks but that is something some folks are simply willing to do for fun. The folly of youth.

But still I will never have a place in my heart for fingerwagging grandmas who find it their place to brow-beat kids on YouTube comment pages. :) I'll refrain from calling you names Muttley

  • i thought the minimum was 10 hrs - it was with paraventure. 20 mins IS rediculous, might as well direct wannabe pilots to ebay......

  • I've been providing RE-training to 'qualified' PG pilots since the late 90's... based on talking to those pilots AND numerous other BHPA pilots I would say the average airtime total for EP AND CP courses is between one to two hours.. often spread over a year or two 'training'..

You may be think of BHPA CP RATED (so finished training) pilotswho are meant to fly with a 'Red Ribbon' until their total airtime reaches 10 hours... I've met a LOT of 5+ year CP's who have still not logged ten hours!

  • Looks like the dog is the smartest creature on this video.

  • nemate mozak

  • Awful. Persons without responsibility. No helmet and no reserve parachute. So our sport is full of accidents and deaths.

    Gustavo Muniz

    Serra da Moeda - Brazil

  • You guys are bonkers. Lucky you didn't up in a wheelchair.

  • extrememly lucky...Too large glider too much wind no speed bar no helmet no knowledge whatsoever...Go buy a lotery..

Looks like barney had a mind blow up!

  • Got to say its people like this that fuck the sport up for REAL pilots.... Instead of spending money on a paraglider you should saved it for a brain implant...

  • Of course what is seen here IS dangerous BUT...

'REAL pilots'..... and in the UK who would they be?

Ask your self one simple question.... how many 'real' BHPA pilots have died/been seriously injured over the years?

I've been providing re-training to BHPA 'trained' pilots for 10 years, most have spent over a grand on their first 'training'.. and most come to me with under one hours airtime over a year or two 'training'... and a skill set not much better than seen here!

  • One word ........ 'Insurance' did 'they' have it? Doubtful.

Real Pilots = with BHPA insurance are threatened by this sort of blatant disregard for the sport.

  • Hi I agree it's unlikely they had insurance.

Just like BHPA pilots who breach UK AirLaw by flying with a 2m radio etc. Also members who are 'CP' rated... if flying at a site where the LZ is out of sight of the launch or if flying XC.. they have no insurance for that flight....

BHPA members have a L O N G history of illegal activities not to mention poor accident history!

NB Most of the of the changes in BHPA 'training logs' were introduced to limit/remove any insurance pay out ...

  • Fair enough, some pilots do this and its wrong. But sounds like you have beef with the BHPA, again fair enough. I agree with you that pilots breaking the rules as such are as bad as the people in this video. But I have been flying a while, and I would rather see some one with BHPA insurance flying than some one with no insurance and no training what so ever, surely you can not compare the two. In every sport you have people that don't care, its up to the people that do care to save it/change it

  • Hi Joe, (no names, no pack drill ;-)

Example: 'cloud flying' a ridge (so NOT possible to be under IFR) or even simply when NOT maintaining the required 'In flight vis' for VFR renders a flight illegal so invalidates BHPA (and any other) Air Sports insurance...

'Normal' PG training RESULTS in a lot of injured & dead pilots which is why I avoided the BHPA and have spent 10+yrs providing RE-training to EX-bhpa 'trained' pilots.

Far too often in practice BHPA insurance = NO actual cover!

  • Have to say 'blah blah blah' they were still stupid

  • This is gettting old now Murray! leave BPHA Alone and CP EP Student and their training and get on with your own flying.

Word to the wise should be sufficient. You know what we are talking about.

  • VERY 'old' and VERY expensive in human lives!

The BHPA have made it VERY clear BY THEIR ACTIONS that they have zero intention of suddenly changing and slashing accident rates...

In the interests of SAFETY anyone thinking of training in the UK should be made aware that 'pilots' can get a BHPA 'CP' with as little as TWENTY mins airtime, the vast majority of BHPA CP's coming to me to RE-train have 40min - <2 hrs 'training' airtime!

Remember 'normal' training RESULTS in 'normal' accident rates...

  • Quote from ParaglideUK:

Just keeping my skills up to par, weather in the uk sucks and we only manage to get a possible 2 days every 3 weeks to fly, so when we can we groundhandle and do what we can.

While PG to AVIATION standards results:

We fly on a about 260 days / average year, and over the last 10yrs the students (majority are PG pilots RE-training to escape BHPA 'standards'...) average around 19 flown days out of 20 days out on the hills... I clearly DO 'know what I'M talking about'..

  • actually BH Pilots only have that standard what standard do you use.

  • I teach is based on physics as well as use of HP&L training, as such almost everything in my training DIRECTLY CONTRADICTS what is regarded as 'normal' theory/practice/procedures in paragliding, the obvious results from our training is that we do NOT suffer from the accident, injury & death rates that BHPA training RESULTS in.. hence the fact that most who choose to come to me are RE-training pilots.

Input (training) is reflected in Output (standards i.e. accident rates/flying hours etc.)

  • NB if by 'BH' you mean BHPA... 'only have that standard'....

There is in fact a wide range in the standards applied... with SOME (a few) BHPA instructors requiring at least a more reasonable (typ. 5 hours) airtime by end of CP..

In comparison that is about the same total as I've had students fly during JUST ONE DAY while training.. I aim to see students on 15-25 hours airtime by the end of the first stage of training with me.

NOTE: There still remains the serious issue of the PHYSICS taught!

  • This is one of my favorite videos for sure!!

I laugh every time I see it. I just got my wing and I'll think of Barney every time lol

  • I'm flying paraliders for 12 years.

This is very very very lucky.

I was watching this and thinking - when is he finally going to crash?

  • That is hilarious! I wish I had friends as crazy!!!

  • Belive me : friends that crazy don't exist! In fact i wonder if this kids is still alive?

  • ahahahahahh 1:30

  • Very Lucky. One guy gained lot of altitude, collapse would have been VERY bad.

Good old Edel Atlas saved the day.

  • With a few pointers you would be well on your way! Don't be dragged down by these safety monkeys! Some of us want a life still!

  • Guys, I hope all of you are _still_ ok. I can't really say how many mistakes I've noticed in this vid but they were many. And I mean MANY. You were bloody lucky the glider was very forgiving because flying another glider with that amount of brake would have caused a stall followed by a painful or deadly impact. And you were also lucky with that thermal because it wasn't very violent and pretty wide... But remember... luck can rn out!

  • I laughed, then i cried, then i laughed again

  • Looks to windy for a beginners but then again I'm only a beginner.

  • Reminds me of teaching myself to fly hang glider I built from plans in pioneering days in '75 (few rules, regs & silly things like proficiency exams, licences, etc.). Did have helmet but that was only protection. I crashed - lots. Usually fast into gorse bushes. One gusty day - steep stall, 40' dive - splat! Couldn't sit down comfortably for over a month. These guys didn't even sprain an ankle! Mad, naive but WE LIVED & some of us survived! Now take proper lessons you lucky sods! Great vid! ;-D

  • hehehe very god for a first time but does are not conditions for a beginers

  • oO... doesn't good!

  • This is very sad.

  • Your right! I'm in floods of tears watching this. In fact I've lost the will to live! Why do people post such sad things?

  • É isso ai ! mano !!!

  • Sorry you are crazy please visit a flight shool its very dangerus to fly

  • No helmet, no boots, no back protection.

They also have no ideea how to handle a paraglider. A good receipe to kill yourself. They also do not look like they are aware of the danger.

  • were did this take place

have you perfffffffffffffected the P.L.F yet

  • Oh, I forgot to mention.....they had an instructor....I could hear him...."Keep your arms straight out to the side".....ha!!!

  • This is great!! I still haven't stopped laughing! Thanks for posting it. I did PPG for a short time, so can relate a little. I like the comments about "no helmet"....ha. I think that was the last thing these guys were worried about. You guys weren't "thinking", just doing. That is a bit dangerous, to say the least, but, OOOOO what a fun, funny vid!! Thanks!!!!!!! :)

  • ide say barny shat es pants.

  • Looks like you had awesome time! LOL

  • hi from venezuela, well i going to do the same shit, but i`M study a lot of vid`s and i`ll go to fly with another pilots, you are something don`t you JAJAJAJ, LIVE TO FLY AND FLY TO LIVE,

    SORRY FOR MY ENGLISH

  • is this one of those british hang gliding and paragliding training videos ? I think some of the training methods used might need a re think!! But Hey he enjoyed himself....(This time )

  • ; - )

    Nice one!

  • helmet!!!!!

  • The reserve it is the ground!

  • LOL I cant believe these guys...hehe "you can hear him shout" someone says... PMSL its like something off of "Only Fools and Horses" or "Some Mothers Do Have Them!" shame we couldnt see his face when he realized he just wasnt coming down... he must of been in tears lol... Did you guys buy a reserve along with your harness and wing?

  • The best amateur video I have ever seen!

  • If you only knew how close you are to looking into the abyss. You motherfuckers have lost your goddamn minds. I sure as hell hope this was a spoof!!!!!! Real good for the image of the sport........Thanks

  • Where helmet, Crazy!!!!!

  • If you are in Cumbria look up a school or at least buy a copy of sky wings or touching cloud base from ebay ,also practice ground handling your wing.have fun and a long life.

  • You guys a re a bit crazy and I know I'm supposed to say all sorts of rude, discouraging remarks like everyone else but I have to say I really enjoyed the video and found it hilarious! I'd loved to have been there but there's no way in hell I'd have gone up in that thing without all the training first! You're a brave guy Barney! You'll remember that day for the rest of your life and having it on video almost makes the risk of certain death it worthwhile haha ;)

  • U guys are the shit. Just started my training and kinda thinking maybe its a waste of money?? . Seriously though, your boy Barney ain´t gonna die a good death. Brain sized balls and ball sized brain. How does he do in School???

  • effing brilliant! most of us go for formal instruction when we paraglide, but you guys are the punks of the air. Lucky, stupid, and great. Barney!!!! You rock!

  • Haha, cheers dude :-D

  • I suppose some people learn the hard way. DEATH should do it.

  • What a idiot way to try an accident. This is a dangerous sport and demands intensive instruction. I hope you understand that. DANGEROUS!!!! RISK OF DIE!!!!

  • 'Normal' PG training will of course RESULT in 'normal' PG accident, injury & death rates....

In fact paragliding can easily be one of the safest forms of personal aviation, personaly I've now flown well over 4,500 hours in the last decade, fly 'high end' wings, don't use a padded harness & rarely wear a helmet (unless it's cold)

Paragliding it's self is NOT a dangerous sport... however dangerous instruction makes it so for far to many UK pilots!

  • Hey Murray,

You must have been reminiscing about that time I saw you collide with student.

  • Comment removed

  • 'opportunity' & appalling etc... Oops! At times (esp. when busy at work!) YouTube doesn't have a spell check!

  • Remind us all Scot... just how many BHPA pilots, coaches & instructors is it who have had serious accidents or died in the last decade?

The BHPA keeps saying in FAI's:

'No failure in training, No breach of procedures, it was just 'Pilot Error'... never the fault their training kills & injures... BHPA 'standards' are the reason 75% of my students are RE-training pilots... as 95% of my training DIRECTLY CONTRIDICTS bhpa 'normal' teachings...

Hence for me 4,500+ hrs SAFE flying is EASY!

  • Dangerous and crazy but so funny lol. Thanks glad it ended safely. See my vid. Lol

  • I think we did very well!!! Better than the next time, tried it in a force 4. Went up like a rocket! Was a bit uncomfortable to say the least. Great to see the clip again. Will have to get it going again, Ians built a paramotor from a chainsaw engine. Who's up for the summer?

  • whata jurks i can belive it i'm warching this are you crazy people she was so high because she is out of weight range for that paraglider she or anyone of you could get killed go find youre self an apropiate wing and god instructor then you can go and fly

  • FYI, there are no girls in this video.

  • To think I wasted money on an instructor and safety gear. Shows just how forgiving this sport can be. Greatest sport on earth.

  • You're finally getting the "star recognition" you deserve ;-) You guys know this was a crazy stunt, I'm glad you're ok! Thanks again for posting this great video, 5 stars just for the entertainment factor!

  • nice,organ donator

  • jajajajaj

  • Tell him to practice 90% with his wing on the ground (ground-handling). Then he would be 80% ok if he's not stupid enough

  • looks just like Guatemala paragliding team!

take care, get a instructor soon

  • this is funny XD "i can see sue" :-D he probebly had fun up ther ^^

  • I've just started paragliding training, and I think if I'd gone up that high on my first day, I'd have been shitting myself. I have to say it was hilarious to watch, particularly when the cam zooms out, and poor Barney is revealed to be a small speck in the sky rapidly heading up to the jetstream. Judging by the sound on the vid, it was way too windy. Glad your all safe, was very funny, but don't do again without training and pro advice on your kit.

  • Great video!

Glad to see nobody got hurt!

  • Oh My Gawd !

I won't rant & rave about how close you all came to meet the grim reaper.

Glad you all didn't get hurt and now understand how serious things may have become.

In the end it's a VERY VERY funny movie (LMAO) and thanks for sharing it.

I think Barneys got some skills BTW ;)

  • Ditto! James, I think you're never gonna hear the end of it. Thanks for posting and don't let the nay-sayers get to ya ;-)

  • You Guys are LUCKY to be alive!

This is a how NOT to video.......

What are you a bunch of Nutters?

  • man how mutch did it cost ? ;D lol
