@15867928 mmmmh Santana hater, funny dude but `this`wouldn't be the same without Carlos, you would like to shut the dialogue between Santana and Rollie at the end? yeah right, and the guitar solo mmmh go figure.
@willmercury have no idea about why I should shut up-mercury is liquid... I don´t want you to shut up for no reason,so why should I? If you are written in stone so be it.I do not care-I care about SANTANA THOUGH,and I will be a fan although I have told Carlos about the way to handle the death of the pope in South America . One time..I have recieved so much from Carlos and his Bands-musically and sometimes in words.
The '60s were a leap in human consciousness. Mahatma Gandhi, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, Che Guevara, Mother Teresa, they led a revolution of conscience. The Beatles, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix created revolution and evolution themes. The music was like Dalí, with many colors and revolutionary ways. The youth of today must go there to find themselves."
I love this. It was a blessing to have lived those days. I believe I heard this first in 1969. A beautiful woman turned me on to it. This was one of my favorite songs on the LP. It is so wonderful to have this video of a live performance.
This is music, the whole era frm 60's through the 70s was the age of music created by effort of one's will. Skill! whole lives spent mastering one instrument. such music isnt made easily. makes me wish i could go back in time...
@shadeslayer16061991 Skill is the reward of passion and dedication. I hope, someday, I'll be able to manage myself to master the acoustic guitar (i.e., classical and/or flamenco). Greetings, friend
Not only did Carlos inspire me it made me want to play Piano too so I did, and Drums and Bass. A Musician who loves music will play as many instruments as they can.
@GreedyNoobLike I completely agree about what music can evoke in one's soul but I would like to point out one thing. You say you're nostalgic about the music from the era but not the social aspects but you can't have one without the other. The music of this era did not come out of a vacuum but was a product of the social environment of the time. Without the social context of the era, none of this music would have been born and is what fueled so many great artists including Santana to create.
This has always been my favorite, imagine surfing a head high glassy sunset wave when he breaks into the solo...santana has a grace. and this shows in this song, the band gets settled, the keyboard solo at the beginning really sets the song and then
Carlos comes in a quarter of the way in ... Miles Davis studied boxing and music and this song understands the idea of "the attack" and the restrain, sorry for the long wind but music today can learn from this song..restrain then attack.
I was fortunate to see them September 1970. The concert was fantastic and is etched in my memory. They played from their first album, Abraxas and introduced material from their third album. This video features the original 6 band members of the first 3 albums: Carlos Santana-guitar, Greg Rolie-keyboards, Michael Shrieve-drums, David Brown-bass, Michael Carabello-congas and Jose "Chepito" Areas-timbales.
@roy111255 It was great that you got to see the original members in concert during the band's early days. I had the chance to see them when they came to Fresno in November 1971 but I missed out on a great concert...gerrrrr.
ESTA ES LA BANDA ORIGINAL DE CARLOS SANTANA MICHAEL CARABELLO BATERIA ,JOSE "CHEPITO" AREAS TIMBALES ,DAVE BROWN EL BAJO Y GREGG ROLIE EL PIANO,CON ESTA MISMA BANDA HIZO EL LP SANTANA ABRAXAS, Y SU PRIMER DISCO, EL DE LEON EL LA PORTADA ,PORQ ANTES DE ESO NO HABIAN GRABADO ELLOS SALIERON ALA PALESTRA DESPUES DE SU PRESENTACION EN EL FESTIVAL DE WOOSTOCK LA FUSION DE ROCK CON MUSICA LATINA FUE LO QUE MAS GUSTO PORQ ERA UN SONIDO NUEVO Y LLEGABA FACILMENTE A TODO EL MUNDO .DESDE PERU SALUDOS
WoW, i bet Santana and his band had no idea how original they were sounding 40 years ago. I think the most of the Hippie generation thought the kind of music, which was popular back those days would last until the end of times.
I'm so young but feel nostalgic towards an age 40 years ago(musically not socially), strange feelings music can evoke in the depths of ones soul.
@GreedyNoobLike Exactly - I felt incredible music like this would last forever, and in fact I felt it would just continue to evolve. Sadly, we seemed to have done a u-turn around 1980 or so and headed south. But I still have all these tunes from these great groups and solo artists from back then to keep me quite happy....!
you are right, those Artist were way ahead of time,& it has come full circle, the don't call him the Super Natural for know reason at all. I saw him in 72 15 yr's old, great great

Gran tema de Santana con lo que realmente sabe hacer tan bien y conoce de maravilla esa fushion del jazz-blues con los ritmos latinos y su guitarra limpia y clara que no esconde notas ni añade mas de la cuenta.
@69MC97gc - The entire band is given writing credits on a handful of songs on this album, including "Treat." That is: Areas, Brown, Carabello, Rolie, Santana, and Shrieve, credited as "Santana Band."
@mfcallaha I know they are all given credit. It had to do with copyrights and money. It was easier and also in their contract. But This one is Mike.As Waiting is Brown and Carabello---and Shades of Time is much Chepito and Gregg.
