i let my mom use my laptop with 256mb and i use my desktop (pc) with i think 718, i use to have 512 but my friend at a computer shop gave me a 256 stick of ram
4GB is definately more than enough for XP(32 Bit) users because it doesn't support more than 3.5GB but I always wonder if it can cause any damage to memory stick modules by neglecting the use of 0.5 GB of memory.
@Forget00 yea...gj? you will load pages the same as someone with 3 gb...loading web pages is not based off ram. This proves my point that mac users are idiots
i had a friend of my to re-install windows cuz for some reason the OS was gone (LOL) and when he was done with all the drivers n shit, he saw that only 1 RAM memory-card-thing was activated so he activated the other one with 2 GB of RAM more = now i have 5gb RAM and my computer is slower than ever cuz he installed windows XP 32-bits :P
@jjfacundo1 I don't know how much you already know, so I'll start at ground zero. There are TWO slots for Ram in the new macbook pro (2x1GB at first -so right away both slots are used up). For a 2x2GB (4 gig)upgrade again both slots are used up, ergo you can't add anymore ram on the boat. You want 8 gigs of ram, but to do that you'll need 2x4. And likewise to get 6 gigs ram; you'll need 4 gigs for one slot and 2 gigs for the other.
be warned its really easy to bend the bottom of the macbook pro, i just installed 4gb of ram on my new macbook pro 13 inch, i got frustrated with the last screw and figured if i wiggled the bottom a little it would come off, i was wrong it bent like a soda can, but its my fault just wanted to post that, but the ram runs fine found 4gb on amazon for 75 bucks.
Really? I'm running xp and have 128 mb of ram. I have internet, I can program in C++, VB, and Java and it runs fine. I can play halo 1, and halo 2 on xeon. I can run teamviewer without lagging. I guess macs aren't as good as they say.
This is why I have abandoned laptops. I have a cheap netbook for mobile use, but I greatly prefer my fire-breathing desktop with its 10gb of DDR3 RAM... and 2 huge monitors (I'd really like 4 monitors... but I'll have to get a quadro graphics card and two articulated arms to hang the other two from the wall.)
@TheAustinHowell Yes, I know. I made this comment a year ago. I'm aware that you can put a lot more. The Mac Pro has the ability to put 32gb but I'm pretty sure you can put more.
@JongaLife I'm not quite sure if they sell 'better' batteries for laptops, try checking online for batteries specific for your laptop. If your laptop battery is old, that could be causing the short battery life. Maybe it was just a coincidence that when you upgraded to 8gbs, your battery started going bad. By the way, I'm only 13 :D
RAM stands for Random Access Memory so for the applications that somehow dont want to use or take up space on your hard drive that is where they go, to your RAM So to answer your question YES more RAM makes yur computer faster but it is mainly the Processor speed that that make your computer the speed that it is so if your noticing a major or even minor speed difference you should just upgrade your processor or just get a new computer.................................................
Jon,if you don't mind, could you review the Acer Aspire One (1gb RAM + 120gb HDD)...i know it's abit old now but from what i've seen it's still a *hot* item which is sold alot. Also if you would reccomend buying and what upgrades should be done on it.Thanks Jon!
yeah, try screenflow, its far far far far far better than fraps, and can easily record my macbook screen with 1gb ram, at 1200x800, its really really good :)
lol there is no such thing because you probably only have 4 slots and no ram is like 30 gigs each lol lol lol thats probably your hard drive loooooooooooool
what does RAM do more of, Speed up the computer, or allow more applications to run at a time, because i have a macbook with 1 gig of RAM and it runs really fast already but i was thinking about upgrading to 4 gigs
The computer writes away data on RAM for a short period of time. It's much faster to hold data on RAM for a short while than write it to the harddrive.
Example: You are using Word, your processing is temporarily stored in the RAM memory, not on the Harddrive for it would be much slower.
The more RAM you have the more your computer is able to process = More RAM = Greater Speed = More Open Apps.
I brought it down to this basic explanation, so don't quote my exact words on this.
I wanna upgrade My macbook pro .. I just boght it, but people say that apple sells them to expensive... can I find these in normal stores?.. memory....
I am absolutely loving the videos! You have helped me a lot. Sony should be paying you bro cuz you convinced me to check out and buy a Playstation 3! I think you should make a video of the online features of the PS3. It would help me a lot man!
First of all... congratulations! I became an uncle last year and was really happy to have a niece. Hahaha. One question: Where did you buy the ram? Couldn't really catch it... Corsair memory?

So Crucial RAM is working alright? I mean I've looked at it before and I know Apple's overpriced, but $100 vs. $600 seemed a little too good to be true.

My MacBook Pro 13 Mid 2009 Intel 2.26 Processor model came with a 4GB Ddr3 1066 Spec memory, and recently upgraded to 8gb Ddr3 1333 memory.
The Mac Book system says the status of the Memory is OK.
But my Mac randomly freezes and especially if a higher memory is allocated to Virtual Machine Windows 7 on Parallels 5.
Is my Mac eligible to Run 1333 speed Memory and what is the solution.
Please comment...
