When Tarja left it was refreshing to hear a new voice singing in NW. I was just fed up with her monochrome (personal opinion) tone of voice in every single song. OK, Tarja is technically a better singer than Anette, classical songs and opera besides her work with NW really play to her strengths. But it ended up sounding like an instrument trying to make music over notes and using lyrics. The versatility of vocals was absent. With Anette it's not

I'm not insulting Annette , i don't care if she is a bitch or a good and lovely person.i don't even think that her voice is bad.her voice is quite good but it's not suitable for a metal band.she would have been perfect in pop or in some alternative rock bands but not in Nightwish (!) DPP album was successful just because people ware interested in a new singer and band was already very popular because of tarja and i'm sure NW wouldn't have been as big as it is now without her.

FYI ppl, I chose an Evanescence song because it fit the allotted time of the video. Plus I feel it was more neutral, if I would of used a song sung by Anette, ppl would just add more smart comments. Tarja had a sound of her own, just like Annette. The old stuff is sung by Tarja and written for her vocal range, not Annette. In my opinion, Annette does better with the new stuff and should go on. Tarja, however, is the voice of the Nightwish that I loved. They are no longer making the same kind of music that they were, so I don't listen anymore. I do listen to Tarja. @AdriJPSoares None of the bands you mention have a Tuomas. Seriously, they're pale imitations, regardless of their vocalists. Tarja is a pale imitiation now as well. I've bought all her post Nightwaish solo work in the hope of something to match Once coming through, but they're terrible.
I'd like to see the critics do better. It applies to all levels of artistry. There's always some know-it-all moron in the wings ready to criticise and never compliment. I prefer Annette now. The two albums she's appeared on show a musical diversity Tarja could never have managed. She may have a wider vocal range but the tone was emotionally unvarying. Annette allows Tuomas do something different and I think they've carried off the previous two albums magnificently. And she's cuter ; )

It's true that it's they don't play anymore Symphonic Gothic stuff. But whatever, it was their decision, and they won't change it. But still I love their music, old songs and new ones, as many people do. (still, imo, Within Temptation & co are cool but have never been nor will ever be a match to them)

Thanks for that video ! It's very well made, and your arguments are appropriate & clever. I personally love both Tarja AND Anette (yeah, it's possible) and their songs. And then, the guys from Nightwish chose her. That in itself proves that she is suitable for the job. And I hate to say that because it sounds mean, but Tarja is NOT coming back, so instead of trolling about Anette, haters should find themselves another band to listen to. Nightwish isn't the only great band out there.
I am NW fan since their first album, and I still love them even though they changed from singer. Tarjaholics are a weird species you see, they have to be caged or something. Therion changes all the time from singers and their fans aren't whining like idiots. Maybe it's because their fans are mature people... Hmm..... Plus, they have used regular vocals instead of operatics throughout their career. Btw, Imaginaerum is their best album. Very theatrical and beautiful.

I don't hate Anette, I just don't like her. Granted, she's a good singer but in my ears the absolutely wrong match for a band like Nightwish (or atleast what it used to be). It's become too "mainstream" for me now. They lost half their signature when Tarja left and at that point, the band died in me. Anatte was always going to come in for a hard time, its always the same where a band has to replace a key member. As muich as I liked Tarja she was far from perfect, sometimes I found her hard to understand and wasnt so impressed with her live. I also found her to be a one trick pony which is never a good thing for a band to be so tightly bound by one vocal style. Anette is more versatile which means the band can be more creative which is essential to their longevity.
Dpp is the best selling album because it was the newest and nightwish got more famous I bet imaginarium will top that! But this has nothing to do with anette as new singer!

you are a narrow-minded person. The fact that Anette is not an OPERA singer like Tarja doesn't mean she cannot sing. She is a professional singer with a great voice, but her singing style is CONTEMPORARY. To sing Nightwish songs you need training, you need real talent, and Anette has both. She is not an improvised singer, she had been in bands for YEARS before she came to Nightwish. She is a singer in her own right, with or without Nightwish.

FYI ppl, I chose an Evanescence song because it fit the allotted time of the video. Plus I feel it was more neutral, if I would of used a song sung by Anette, ppl would just add more smart comments. Tarja had a sound of her own, just like Annette. The old stuff is sung by Tarja and written for her vocal range, not Annette. In my opinion, Annette does better with the new stuff and should go on. Tarja, however, is the voice of the Nightwish that I loved. They are no longer making the same kind of music that they were, so I don't listen anymore. I do listen to Tarja. Annette can't sing like Tarja, and Tarja can't sing like Annette. You don't like, don't listen, easy. Have a nice life. =^_^=PK

I'd like to see the critics do better. It applies to all levels of artistry. There's always some know-it-all moron in the wings ready to criticise and never compliment. I prefer Annette now. The two albums she's appeared on show a musical diversity Tarja could never have managed. She may have a wider vocal range but the tone was emotionally unvarying. Annette allows Tuomas do something different and I think they've carried off the previous two albums magnificently. And she's cuter ; )

It's true that it's they don't play anymore Symphonic Gothic stuff. But whatever, it was their decision, and they won't change it. But still I love their music, old songs and new ones, as many people do. (still, imo, Within Temptation & co are cool but have never been nor will ever be a match to them)

Thanks for that video ! It's very well made, and your arguments are appropriate & clever. I personally love both Tarja AND Anette (yeah, it's possible) and their songs. And then, the guys from Nightwish chose her. That in itself proves that she is suitable for the job. And I hate to say that because it sounds mean, but Tarja is NOT coming back, so instead of trolling about Anette, haters should find themselves another band to listen to. I am NW fan since their first album, and I still love them even though they changed from singer. Tarjaholics are a weird species you see, they have to be caged or something. Therion changes all the time from singers and their fans aren't whining like idiots. Maybe it's because their fans are mature people... Hmm..... It's become too "mainstream" for me now. They lost half their signature when Tarja left and at that point, the band died in me. Anatte was always going to come in for a hard time, its always the same where a band has to replace a key member. As muich as I liked Tarja she was far from perfect, sometimes I found her hard to understand and wasnt so impressed with her live. I also found her to be a one trick pony which is never a good thing for a band to be so tightly bound by one vocal style. Anette is more versatile which means the band can be more creative which is essential to their longevity.

you are a narrow-minded person. The fact that Anette is not an OPERA singer like Tarja doesn't mean she cannot sing. She is a professional singer with a great voice, but her singing style is CONTEMPORARY. To sing Nightwish songs you need training, you need real talent, and Anette has both. She is not an improvised singer, she had been in bands for YEARS before she came to Nightwish. She is a singer in her own right, with or without Nightwish.

I don't blame anette for Nightwish's fatal error in dismissing the most talented female rock star in the world in Tarja ... Any chick would have jumped at the chance to sing with Nightwish and Anette was chosen. No she can't sing half as good as Tarja, but Nightwish didn't want a singer with the same vocal style as Tarja so as not to compare the 2 ... their plan obviously backfired! Nightwish NEEDS Tarja back if they are to survive

@drexx101 fatal error?she would quit the band anyway..and tarja was a parasite in the band,tuomas and the rest of the guys wrote all the songs..she was just a stupid opera singer that didnt belong in the band..now tarja and her greedy joke of a husband can go and make money because thats all they care for..

I agree that Tarja fans should not bash Anette, but this is exactly what you did in this video.
"Tarja wasn't perfect live" - probably not, but among singers in the business today, she is the closest to being perfect.

Ok, you like her but don't compare Anette with Tarja because even the proximity is an offence to Tarja, music and to art in general.

tarja was the living soul of nightwish. Without her nightwish is lost. they belong together. To hear sing at tarja was like poetry. The band will never be the same without her and thats why we, the fans, react that way. there's no reason to hate Anette, but she doesnt belong there. I long for the day tarja, the true Nightwish singer, returns!!

@gustavolaguna1983 living soul of nightwish, excuse me? she never wrote a single song or even a single line of lyric. you don't have to be a genious to realize that mr. holopainen is responsible for everything you hear in their music. also if you even tried to gather some information about why turunen was kicked out, you would understand that there was just no way they could work with her anymore. to sum it up - she was acting like an asshole at the time.
