The day the sheep beat Falkirk I was (as a Celtic Fan) at Tannadice where Celtic beat UTD 1- 0. The Celtic fans were winding them up as Aberdeen scored early that they were going down. It was, if I remember the week of the 50th anniversary of VE day and along with 'Oh we'll no be back in Dundee for a while' the Celtic fans rubbed it in big style with a version of Vera Lynn's ' We'll meet again dont know where don't know when but I know we'll meet again some sunny day'. United fans even laughed.
The Dons had a miraculous turn of form that year on the brink of relegation. I was at Brokville, and the atmosphere was electric. The Falkirk support must have been surprised by the energy of the Dons fans, who lived and died on every tackle. What a difference it would make if Aberdeen fans did this every week.
I would have been far too young to remember this but I can't believe it was only 15 years ago Scotiish football used to get crowds like that, see how big business has ruined the game now.
Was at every game here bar Hearts away - we were dead and buried but somehow managed to find great form at the end. Falkirk away was unreal. Shearer's goal against United the highlight - you can hear the crowd celebrating before he even touched the ball, he never missed those!
Lived up in Aberdeen when relegation threatened. My uncle life long supporter was sick with relegation thoughts. I saw Dundee Unied Home, Falkirk Away and both Dunfirmline games. Friggin Brillant.
As a Pars fan, I recall that play off game, and equalising at Pittodrie we had a great chance. Having a stonewall pen turned down changed the tide of it.
3-1 was always going to be too much to make up in the 2nd leg.
I recall the crowds for the play offs- we took a massive support up to Aberdeen in a 21,000 sell out, then 16,500 midweek at East End. Both games live on STV/ BBC if I recall correctly.
It was a very difficult match- as you say, you'd come back from the dead almost to avoid bottom spot while we had the disappointment of again missing out on the championship on the final day of the season.
I agree that the atmosphere at both games was excellent- and in terms of crowds, changed days now. Sadly.
spurtboy, are you referring to the "Matches of the Season" series, which puts the verbal flesh on these video bones? As a matter of fact, I am indeed. For the convenience of you (and all other Dons fans) you can find the link on the Descriptive Pane of this very page.
hey carhandle im a celtic fan and big roy aitken saved aberdeen!yet he was never really apreciated by the dons fans for it!i rem aberdeen losing at motherwell and it looked all over!great comeback however!i was glad but it was a shame utd went down, would have prefered it being partick!mind you, changed days for the dons as they used to be awesome, then became awfull!at least under calderwood they are in safe hands though hes another one the fans want out!
If you can I'd recommend trying to get your hands on "Never Again" by the Red Final. Possibly the best afc related collection ever. I defy anyone to read without bringing a tear to their eye

Old enough to remember this but was too young to get nervous. If that was happening now I would be having a breakdown!

Nothing great about the escape, a total dismal time to be a Dons fan .......a disgrace of a position to be in.
Things haven't got much better :(
Does it take a relegation battle for the fans to sing at games?

To be honest, the way we played in the last half-dozen games of the season, Real Madrid or Barcelona wouldn't have beaten us in that playoff.
Atmosphere was phenomenal in those games. The worst, and best of times to be a Don.

@stewartkev Tragically though mate I fear the Dons could go down this season. Big changes needed up there.

carhandle, are you still doing your superb 'Matches of the Season' series on any unofficial Aberdeen FC messageboards?
