what you are saying sounds great except that you are failing to realize that NAMI is a 12 step program. They don't support drug treatment they try to treat mental illness the same way you treat a drug addiction.

What kind of psychologists are you? I happen to be some one who is suffering with mental illness. I don't have behavioral problems that need treatment. The only treatment that helps me is medication. No matter how hard I try or how much will power I use my illness just wont go away.

The NAMI tactic is used in anti-tobacco movements, from non-profits to lobby groups. But they're \ in bed together.

Cellulose acetate is used in both cigarette filters and nicotine patches, so the suppliers profit from having both sides (pro- and anti- smokers). If either one were the "winner" that's less profits for the raw materials suppliers.

A family member is now in psych hosp &being held like a prisoner. They're forcing drugs on her & won't let her have time to herself.There's always someone in her rm watching her, they try to keep her from using the phone & the drugs she's on are making her confused & incoherent. I'm worried. Does anyone know of a way we can legally get her discharged from the hospital?

LOTS of the "problems" were caused by these drugs. haliperodol should be outlawed. this guy is 90% right, because sometimes drugs can be helpfull, but they are WAY overused, and sold as "lifelong" fixes. youre 100% right about the support groups. good video.

I am taking a college course right now called "Treatment Issues in Drug Addiction" and the main thrust of treatment for these people is to get it into students heads that they have a "brain disease" and the solution is to treat the disease is to get them off illegal drugs and pump them full of legal prescription drugs. I read a cool article out of England by some psychologists who said that hearing voices was not uncommon and that hearing voices did not have to be a big deal unless it freaked the person out. Also said that left alone many times the voices would go away on there own, especially if ignored. Wish I could find that article...

I went to NAMI meetings, after almost 25 yrs of being off neuroleptics. I told of the damage they'd done to my mother (tardive dyskinesia), and the damage they'd done to me (permanent genital anesthesia). I was not very welcome. I was told I was too well and asked not to come back! The leader of the group, whom I knew, had a daughter that was diagnosed as bipolar and was taking $400 mo. worth of drugs. The daughter died not long after I Ieft, and some of us wondered if it was the drugs.

Thank you Dr. Breeding. It is refreshing to hear the truth. I deal with the same problem with injured workers advocates. They can't see the forest for the trees. Instead of changing the appeals processes that cause pshysical and emotional harm, they are "helping" by allowing these frivolous and vexatious appeals and making money off the prolonged misery of the insurance claimant.
