Haha, when I was younger, I always thought that in the song "I'm Blue", instead of him singing "I'm Blue, Dabadee Dabadie" and so on, I thought it was "I'm Blue, I believed I would die, I believed I would die, I believed I would die!" xD
@Scraggy333 I never heard the thing and wasn't sure if it was real lyrics or not. So now I saw the video for Blue (Da Ba Dee) by Eiffel 65. Frankly it seems like they never got around to writing any lyrics anyhow so what the heck. Make them up.
@geezerbill That book is hillarious but sad, realizing that there are so many clueless in the world who just don't listen or artists who are incoherent singers. It was with that book where I first heard the term Mondegreens. From 1995 by Gavin Edwards. I wonder if he ever made a sequel. I'm a guy, I'm a bee, ad nauseum. I don't know that song. What is it really trying to say?
@UglySean, yes there were two follow-up books: "When a Man Loves a Walnut" and "He's Got The Whole World In His Pants". I think the first book was the best of the 3, but the other two had some really good mondegreens.
@geezerbill Thanks. Actually he is one author that answers email so he informed me of this fact. I just have to find those books.
Still it was goofy when I was being toilet trained there was a new song on the radio called "Let it Be" - but relating it to my infant existence I took it as "Let it Pee" - I also had no idea I was listening to one of the last hits of one of the greatest bands ever.
Guess what.. for several years I honestly believed that "there's a bathroom on the right" were the lyrics to Bad Moon Rising until I saw someone sing it on Don't Forget The Lyrics...
these are really funny, especially knocking on Evans door.

I saw a lot of these mondegreens in the book "'Scuse Me While I Kiss This Guy", which I bought back in the mid 90s.

My habitual Mondegreene was in the Johnny Nash song " I Can See Clearly Now";
"I can see all icicles in my way."

I always sang "Skip a life and dangle", and still do now. Hey, it's a better lyric than "Skip the light fandango." Just look at my login name!

My favourite Jon Carroll Mondegreen was an infamous Cyndi Lauper line:
"Oh mother dear, we're not the poor chicken buns
But girls just wanna have fun . . . "
