  • How much ram could I put into the T42? I'm thinking of buying one

  • @oTimeIsLife I think the maximum is 1GB

  • My friend gave me one, but i couldnt get a charger.. I finally got one, im not sure what's compleatly wrong with it. He told me to just screw around with it and learn bout laptops. I have an XP disc, but i think i'll use Ubuntu instead. I may try a uber lite build of win7, they can run off about 256mb fairly well, with extra memory to spare. But its the CORE basic of the whole OS.

  • its a tranformation pack you lieing

  • @yellowbook1234567 no its nt its just theres no aero

  • wow you're cute:)

  • i'm doing that with my t41 exept windows 7 starter :)

  • i have the R32 will it work

  • @SuperHohoho12 Maybe, but it won't be very fast.

  • Can you tell me did you have any problems with drivers for windows 7?

Which drivers you had to install additionaly (windows 7 did not install them)?

    Does everything work ok?

  • @vilgefortz1 It's been so long, I don't remember. I just used Lenovo's driver site, and Windows Update. I don't recall any major problems though.

  • its not a good i dea to put windows 7 because of some drivers and specs and due to the pentium the machine will become slow and i know this cause i tired it and im a technician :)

  • I have a 3com wireless card in my t42 and will i be able to get the wireless internet on vista? (does lenveo have wireless and sound software which supports vista) thanks.

  • @willpritchard96 Yeah, Vista drivers will work in 7, and if it came with the T42, Lenovo should support it.

  • if u had as many sidebar gadgets on 7 when it was booting (not when u enabled them when it started) it wld of been the same. and its not windows vistas fault u hv an old comp and barely any ram, if u hv 1gb or more of ram then it runs it gr8 and its so cheap 2 get ram and so easy 2 install.

  • @hammy6427 This machine only supports 2GB max... and I never bothered upgrading it.

  • @jamesrschultz hi, im getting this ibm t42 in couple of days and i want to ask you, how do you think, would it run vista 64bit? Thanks in advice.

  • @klopsiak This processor is not 64-bit capable.

  • I recconize the background all right... Its the beta/rc release of windows 7...

  • I'm getting this laptop in about two days. My specs are:

    1.7 GHz

    1GB DDR RAM

    40 GB Hard drive

How well do you think my machine would run windows 7? I have the disc and everything but I'm wondering if it is a good idea?

  • @windowslover1 I HIGHLY recommend getting 2GB of RAM, if you do, it'll be great. If not, it'll be just okay.

  • @jamesrschultz Ok thanks I got the laptop but I haven't put windows 7 on yet. I think I will take your advice and buy another gig of ram.

By the way, I LOVE this laptop. Best I have had

  • `will this affect the battery life??

  • @jonnyattack It will take more power to run Vista or 7, but not all that much.

  • have you ever tried to use your svideo on this computer with windows 7 ? i have but it wont work for me, if you can figure out how to work it let me know

  • @corey420420420 I never tried it... try hitting the Windows key and P and try some options in there.

  • @jamesrschultz i tried it but when i push the windows button and p nothing happens

  • @corey420420420 Well, it should let you change monitors in Windows 7 when you do that. Try VGA then.

  • Im getting the exact same laptop and it has 2gb RAM, would that mean it would run Vista very fast? Thanks, :D Good Review

  • @dalekfilms It would run Windows 7 much better, but Vista would run decently.

  • @Tahsin3000

    how you got everything done..

i am soo stuck of getting all my drivers like my wifi router is not even working either

    hellpp :(

  • what is ur resolution

  • @esesolox3 1024x768

  • Put the CD/DVD in the drive, shutdown, and restart. Boot into the disk, follow onscreen instructions.

  • Windows update and Lenovo's website's drivers for Windows Vista.

  • max ram for a T42?

  • 2GB 2048MB

  • thank's but is that more than enough to run windows 7 ?

  • It's a good amount, should be no problems.

  • cheers bud

  • Hawe you found all drivers ?

Or it was automatic installed with win 7 ?

If you found please upload them.

  • Windows update and lenovo(dot)com

  • Damn Vista runs really slow on that T42. Runs perfectly fine on my T43, just as good as 7 and XP.

  • win7 so great ^_^!

  • i have that same thing with 7 why wont the grapic card update to the real driver not the vga grpaic card shit

  • Yeah... I wish I could figure it out.

  • oh well its still pretty cool to have win 7 anyways.

  • i got exactly the same laptop and the performance is horribl with clean install and highest performing graphics drivers i could find

  • With this laptop you really NEED 2GB of RAM for Vista/ 7 and AT LEAST 1GB for XP or 2000.

  • Hi, thanks for the video. Did you have to install any drivers or windows 7 recognized automatically all the hardware?

  • i have 3.2 ghz processeur- 512 mb ram- 160 gb hard disk -64 mb video card run windows seven ????

  • Yeah, it would work, but I would highly reccommend 128MB or more for aero and much much much better performance.

  • DDR2 would be better, so it would be faster.

  • did you get your OSD functions to work in Windows 7?

Like the volumu up/down keys, thinklight, mute, do they all display on screen when pushed.

  • I never tried it, but you might be able to. It was not designed for Vista/7 so it might not though. Maybe run the exe in compatibility mode...?

  • Comment removed

  • The OSD works on my T43 with Windows 7! I think, it's also work with t42.

  • i'm wondering if you have the new driver for the windows 7 in your laptop because i don't think lenovo have it.

  • Not yet, but they will soon. nVidia has a Windows 7 driver out though.

  • I think i like the IBM Thinkpad is better than the Lenovo's since they Now manufacture it as of Late 2005.

  • ya, it should be much better than before but i think you should beef it up to its max being 2gb it should be even better. I find that Vista needs at least 3 gb of ram to be decent but i for windows 7 i dont know but i think it would need even more. BTW i have a t42 that is just like yours.

  • If that freaking DDR RAM were not so expensive, I would put 2GB in it. It's not my primary machine, I use a ThinkPad Z61t. I love the T42 though, and if it wouldn't cost hundreds, it would have 2GB in it in the morning. I agree with you though.

  • nice, you seem to be a Thinkpad fan like me I also have a t30 in which my sister is using it, also unfortunately its suffering damage and poor care because if it and i also have a 380xd I picked up for free its rock solid and it works great. Just so you know i wouldn't rely on the number in task manage that you did for the RAM usage i found that number was just Microsoft eye candy instead i rely on the number labeled available under the physical memory category to determine the ram usage.

  • Yeah, ThinkPads are the best laptops available. My Z series is blissful. I just upgraded it to 4GB of RAM, works great!

  • Excellent I love them to i try to keep my newly acquired T42 in good clean condition, sorry for the dialogue .

  • your sucking that thinkpad dry

  • Pretty much. I have a gig of RAM in it now, so it's much, much, much better!
