  • Love this song. Cool tune, the ha ha's are cool and the video makes it even more cool

  • I hear this song on our Satellite Feed at my retail job and I actually thought this song came out in the late 1990s/early 2000s, I have never heard of this song prior to me working at my retail job

  • i like tracey's hairstyle. it reminds me of robert vaughn in the man from uncle. she's cute & got pipes.

  • i first heard this song on the radio when my pop died........back in 1989.........B

  • Video reminds me of "Ah ha" Take on Me and they are saying "ha" at the beginning.

  • Great song!!! Realyy set a mood!!!! All time classic!!!!!!

  • Made a remix of this lol

    /watch?v=b5cqH_svGVY

  • i first heard this song on a flight to Los Angeles in 1990 and i completely fell in love with it, listening to this song while in the air and seeing clouds out the window just gives me a wonderful feeling....

  • Man! Thats the song!!!! No matter wats happened with the world. Just put the song and I ll be ok. Thanks for upload the video. Greetings from Mexico City.

  • Laura Nyro, Everything But The Girl, Steely Dan, Todd Rundgren, Floetry, and Sugababes. A few of my favorite things. :)

  • Middle of the road..very good!!!!!!

  • Love the bridge (1:28-1:48), just sounds so good. When I first heard this song, that's what drew me to it, besides the fact that this is just a cool song. Still, I so love this song:)

  • Great Song! I have been looking for this song for a long time. This is a nice blend of Pop Jazz.

  • Please please please. Do you have "Imagining America"?

  • What a classic! You go girl!

  • Now I'm finished watching the actual video. I think Senor Salvador Dalí would've hearted this one! :) It's as surreal as him and his work :)

  • Again a song with "ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ..." throughout but Tracey Thorn makes the song wonderful. (The "ha"s always drove me insane in Laurie Anderson's "O Superman" back in 1982)

  • I thought I was the only the who thought the "ha's" were similar to Laurie Anderson's "O Superman" which I thought was a really weird song myself

  • The video is missing the middle sax solo by the late master Michael Brecker.

  • Talent is still alive and well thank God.

  • Great song, sounds way ahead of its time, did this song ever reach the Billboard Top 100?

  • Personnel who played on this song:

Guitar - Ben Watt Bass Guitar - John Patitucci Drums - Omar Hakim Percussion - Lenny Castro Saxophone [Tenor Saxophone] - Michael Brecker Synthesizer [Synthesisers], Programmed By, Piano - Larry Williams Written-By - Ben Watt

  • Beautiful !!!!

  • Not even a big fan of this genre of music, but when I first heard this song, I instantly fell in love with it. Such an incredible song.

  • EBTG did a version of this on MTV with Tracey and piano only. I had a bit of it on VHS years ago. I think this song benefits from a sparse arrangement.

  • I totally agree. I have the sparse arrangement somewhere (tape?) and I much prefer it.

  • I found a record player at a garage sale.Got my 100's of records out of the cupboard. Guess which album gets palyed the most? I cant take it off!!! Its like discovering an old freind.

  • This is a TUNE. They made some classic tunes while nailing some killer grooves too. A big influence on my own music!

  • I do love this song so much -- and especially the acoustic version!

  • Still sounds great after almost 20yrs! The great Stan Getz on sax.

  • Quality music not the screaming rabble shit they have these days...

  • where is the original song and MTV of cross my heart?

  • great song :)

  • Absolutamente maravilloso

  • Tried inviting this band for a concert here in the Philippines where they have a lot of fans. To my dismay Tracy told me that she would love to but I have to talk to Ben first about doing a concert in Manila. Its just sad that they had a bitter separation and Ben is not willing to sing as Everything but the Girl. Ben is willing to go to Manila to perform as a Club DJ and not as EBTG.

  • I guess the have personal problems that they can't overcome - like most of us.

It's a shame for me as they are one of my favorites and would love to see or hear them perform again with new material one day.

  • I love this song it really tugs at my heart. In all the places that I forgot was there.

  • brings me back

  • great song! bring back a lot of memories of San Francisco.

  • A perfect song from from a perfect album.

  • i love this song it makes me relax and reminds me of my old school days way back h.s its timeless.

  • BTW, Swing Out Sister vocalist is Corinne Drewery

  • I'd like to know how you thought about that because Marta Drury from Swing Out and Tracy Thorne from Everything are two of my favorite singers. I have all their albums and constantly listen to them. The are both great individually and they would make a great team. BTW check out When All's Well from EBTG. It's a great vid, one of their first but still worth watching.

  • Her name is Corinne Drewery

  • I wonder how we could get them together? 6 degrees of separation between them and us! Hm, something to look into....

  • Wouldn't it have been great if this lead singer and the lead singer for Swing Out Sister made a duet of something?

  • That would be a great sound I think..

  • Wow! I never even thought of that. That would have been incredible!!

  • Awesome!!

  • tracy thorn , you are what i dreampt about as a boy fit as f***

  • i haven't herd this in a long time!

  • Comment removed

  • love this song.....

  • oh wow... twas really good to take a trip down memory lane with YouTube... this song reminds me of my first heartache... the bus was actually playing this one when i was 180 km bound to another city in an effort to forget... music really heals :-)

  • the start part of this sounds like its from the art of noise & the middle am sure its them

  • I love the hair ! This song reminds me of spring time, Greenwich village NYC, early 90's... I'll come driving....gotta love it.

  • ETBTG is and has to be one of the best bands I have ever heard. I have been listening to them for 20 plus years and have never tired of Traceys incredible voice. I have seen them in concert twice in Toronto......One of the best live performances I have ever witnessed. I was in Mykonos a few years back on an island beach and had the great fortune to run into Tracey Thorn at the beach bar. Truly an undiscovered treasure Tracey and Ben.

  • Makes me miss the 90's already.

  • This whole album was good!

  • you're right, the whole album was good. it's one of the very few CDs i've kept.

  • I would love to own this on vinyl.

  • Thorne and Watts.....what a talented duo. Awesome song!!

  • One of the most beautiful songs ever written. The piano version is actually even better.

  • this reminds me of enya....but better though!

  • I prefer all their albums before the their Techno era.... this one "Language of Life" is the best!!

  • Agreed!

  • this is the ultimate EBTG track...that intro sends chills down my spine everytime!!!

    When was this song out?

  • dito

  • 1991

  • Sweet! Thanks!

  • I think she looks more like Nicholas Lyndhurst

  • i didnt think of that i see your point there more also than lisa

  • Thank you after all my music was stolen I never eregained my former collection. I miss EBTG. nice vid!

  • This album and artist are what music is all about! making you forget your troubles and and bonds of the here and now for the places only good music can send you and your heart.

  • I know I couldn't have made an album like this. No I'm not a musician. I can't carry a tune in a bucket. I meant the themes. Domestic voilence, infidelity and the loss of love to name a few. They make very good music about sensitive subjects

  • I love the video. Brilliant production.

  • p.s. is that you santa claues??

  • hey meagan{sister] this is for you if you ever find it-

    your brother

  • Not only amazing song but a very artistic music video to go with it.

  • awesome!!!!!!!!!!

  • ben watt is genius musician, composer, DJ and record producer. wicked!

  • Great song with such smooth vocals!

Punkin' + Winkee = WUV FOREVER! XOXOXOXO

  • Could someone please, please, post "Meet Me In The Morning"?

  • I get lost in music like this. The music is so wonderful, the lyrical concept is outstanding, and Tracey's voice is just...

    STOP PULLING ON MY HEARTSTRINGS!

    ...women are so cruel

  • terry todd remix available on cd

  • My sister-in-law turned me on to this song. She loves to give me a hummer while this song is playing. Don't tell my wife, but she calls me "lover boy" when my wife isn't around!!

  • I guess that makes it incest-in-law

  • Tracey Thorn has one of the most beautiful voices in modern times. I imagine if you ever catch a glimpse of her bare back, you'd probably see two long scars - definite signs of an angel that descended to earth and sacrificed her wings just to share songs with we mere mortals..... Tracey Thorn is the TRUTH!

  • AWW that a lovely thing to say if someone said that about me i think i would try

  • Great song. Great video.

  • One of the very best Albums EBTG ever made 'The Language of Life' is a classic, that song is amazing, everytime I listen to the it I want Tracy to continue doing the "Ha Ha Ha..." thing for another 10 minutes. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you...

  • This is a very cool song; I was completely blown away when I heard this in early 1990....thanks so much for the post. Now playing on IPOS everywhere!!!!

  • Everything but the girl rules. Nobody makes good songs like these anymore. Then again, they don;t need to because this is timeless.

  • Speechless!

  • Don't know if any of you know or knew this, but Michael Brecker played the sax solo on this track. That man was brilliant! Though this is probably EBTG's most commercial release, they had a great roster of musicians who participated. I would wear this CD out!!

  • Wonderful music!!

  • Really wonderful! Simple magic!

  • Cavoli quanti ricordi...indelebili ed emozioni forti!

  • Does anyone know if there is a video of there song Me and Bobby D on the internet?

  • This ranks up there with" Meet me in the Morning." both stir the emotions

  • OMG, you are soooo right.

  • This song takes me back to a place when I was much younger...makes me feel great every time I hear it.

  • dRIVING TO SAVE GAS

  • Now, this is real music.

  • I couldn't agree with you more.

  • Brilliant. There was a nice little jazz pop thing going on in the late 1980s/early 90s with EBTG, The Style Council, Sade, Incognito, etc. This song is from their 1990 release "The Language of Life."

  • this song taps emotions

  • This song is one of my all time favorite, bring back very special memory. Such beautiful song, love her voice.

  • amazing song...

  • Just had a wonderful experience with a guy 24 years younger than me, I'm 53..thought I'd never feel this way again...if he calls me yes i will come driving as fast as wheels can turn...

  • That's as romantic and sensual as this song!

    Cheers.

  • you are so right.......life is good after 50

  • Such rare moments you would recall when a song you hear triggers an emotion from the past and suspends the current awareness of your surroundings. Thanks for the post.

  • What is it about the major european record labels that they can sign artists of this skill and creativity on such a consistent basis. If it weren't for the internet, life as a US music fan would be miserable. I bought this album when it came out and it still blows away 99% of what's coming out.

  • yes flowtones every song on this album is a sunny gem stephen

  • This brings back some memories. This band was named after a slogan in a furniture shop in Hull. They recorded 'I dont want to talk about it 'a song written by Danny Whitten.

  • I love EBTG; does anyone have Take me?

  • as an african american soul brother this song is a stone jam that means good,i wish radio could have put this on black and brown station but they didnt im glad i heard it on a smoothed jazz station back in the day while kissing and feeling on my lady

  • poppylights, it was 1990

  • What year was this?

  • Gorgeous song

  • magical song..

  • awesome! the language of life is a vastly underrated ebtg album imo! im putting it on my ipod right now

  • It has got to be illegal to make music like this. EBTG pulls on heartstrings that shouldn't be pulled on. ...truly special

  • Some songs explain love so well. It's a women's song, but I thought about my girl so much in school. ...lost in love. Thank You, EBTG

  • Smooth sound- I could listen to her al night- When are they touring in The US!!

  • superb - rich - quality - real lyrics -

  • Great song, why doesn't she look at the camera. Looks depressed.
