  • a 5lb a b c extinguisher will put out a hay in a barn it is efective on class a: trash wood paper and hay and plastic class b : gasoline oil propane and class c: tv lamp radios electrical out lets etc. so a 5lb abc extinguisher will put out a hay fire in a barn.

  • DO NOT lure yourself into a false sense of securtiy that a 5lb ABC will put out a seated class A fire like in those hay piles. Use a 2 1/2 gal. water extinguisher with soapy water. Or even better a 2 1/2 gal foam ext. with coldfire or Fireade 2000. If you have a large amount of land you might want to look into a small CAFS unit. They can be used to 'pretreat' a barn before a grass fire gets to it.

  • Great information and sense of humor. Thanks !

  • An extinguisher rated 3A would be next to useless on a Class A Fire especially in loose hay/ sawdust Ideally you want 2 types of extinguisher

A decent class A unit Such as 9 ltr Water or 6ltr Foam with an anti freeze additive (unless the barn is heated) offers better extinguishing and a greater resistance to re-ignition than ABC Powder they discharge quietly so shouldn't spook a horse and a CO2 for live electrical equipment and class B,

In Europe class C is actually Gas fires not electrical.

  • Would be better if the sound quality was fixed, it seemed to echo and overlap making it difficult to follow what was being said.
