  • 1:00 That riff kills me everytime...

  • This track was clearly leftover from Liquid Tension Experiment material.

  • after this i don't need any weed anymore...

  • John Petrucci's techniques: When in doubt, pinky out...lol

  • i'm covering this song on a pair of cymbals.

  • If JP and Alexi ever came into contact, I'm pretty sure the world would explode.

  • @SerratedAMG No, Im sure JP would humillate Alexi :P

  • I am making a cover of this song, everything is going well..:)

but then, petrucci means - he needs to sweep 32-notes at 120 bpm..

    LOSE :D .. its so unbelievable at 4:25 ...

  • a melhor pra mim !

  • I'm covering this song on tuba

  • I was peeking some comments here and just want to leave a personal opinion. My favourite guitar player: John Petrucci. However, I've seen 3 DT concerts in my life and COB only once, but will choose without hesitation COB as my favourite concert experience. They are both amazing artists (JP and Alexis) and that should be the ONLY line of thought you should have. There are no worstest here.

  • best part 2:42

  • i think saying someone is extremely talented is just devaluating the hundreds of hours he sat and practiced of the person :/

  • 2:44 best part IMO. :)

  • petrucci's raspberry jam delta-v hahahah

  • 14 people had tunnel vision for music!

  • This song is very cool man

  • buckethead is good as well

  • this music is cool.

  • bueno en realidad da gusto escuchar a petrucci sin el alternate picking

  • 13 people clicked this video and got a "An error occurred, plz try again later". So they madly clicked the dislike button thinking it was a "Download Then" button :\

  • @newmetalnow nobody laughs at this man....

  • @newmetalnow not funny at all

  • @newmetalnow

Hurr durr 13 people didn't derp derp every Youtube comment ever.

  • this sounds so much like something that Steve Vai would do!! some parts kinda sound like the song "The Ultra Zone". Tunnel Vision is so much better though!!!!

  • Both Suspended Animation and Are you dead yet? by COB came out in 2005.... But SA came first! So... props to JP!! HAHA!

  • I´ve been fuck with this song and had excellent results, XD

  • Petrucci is a fucking genious.

  • Petrucci is a very musical guitarist. No very show -offy in his playing. He's showing off his skills to compose rather than to shred.

  • 6:14 anyone else hear "In Your Face"?

  • @CyValkarion DUDE YES! I noticed that too!

  • @Musicfrommitchell If you really listen, most of the tracks on this album have some reference to another song.

  • @CyValkarion yup, 0:29 similar to Children of Bodom - In your face

  • @truyenthanh181191 Too bad John has more talent in his pinky than all of the members of Children of Bodom combined...

  • @xHighPotencyx that is a lie sir.

  • @xHighPotencyx I totally agree with you. In fact, each member of Dream Theater is excellent.

  • @xHighPotencyx I disagree. While you may not appreciate the art that CoB puts into their music, it does not give you the right to criticize on a band that is very experienced. Both are really talented, and please, Alex is about as talented as John, maybe because they both had the same influence?

  • @OverGuyThat I've heard a lot of Alexi's stuff, and he isnt that great. Some of his solo's dont fit with the song, he has no feeling, and its all just shred. John can play whatever he wants to play from jazz to super fast shredding. The only thing I like about Alexi is his rythm playing.

  • SUPERB

  • Raspberry Jam Delta V by Joe Satriani cover?

  • Damn... i was Blown away.

  • that first riff sounds a lot like children of bodom's in your face.

  • @mobman47 Technically, its the opposite.

  • @mobman47 It's the other way around...Tunnel Vision was released first...

  • HOLY SHIT Best Riff ever

  • Comment removed

  • this is strange, it doesn't look like petrucci stuff

  • I had the great pleasure of producing and remixing this track for John. It was an amazing experience.

  • @TonyVerderosa HOW DID YOU MEET PETRUCCI?

  • @TonyVerderosa great man! it must be awesome to work on his track, he's really a genious i.m.o.

  • @TonyVerderosa Would it be okay if i asked what software was used to make the opening of the track?

  • all the muscle he have came from this music

  • At the beginning he sounds just like satch...

  • 313toejam CORRECTION: fuck supermodels!!

  • kinda reminds me of protest the hero... but better...

  • 12 fans of slash

  • @zoquete02 it's such a silly thing to say. slash is a great artist. please don't talk just to talk...

  • @odeath1 you are gonna come onto a petrucci video to defend slash???? listen to this song and tell me that slash is in the same league as petrucci... slash is a pentatonic shredding cookie cutter... not to mention the fact that slash does pop music, not progressive metal.... apples and oranges kinda...

  • @crankycactus because they are from different leagues, we cant actually compare them. petrucci is great in his league and slash is great in his... of course i didnt come here to defend slash. i like petrucci too but i think you are cruel to slash...

  • Wow!! The intro is amazing! John is very creative and new-thinking!!

  • What a beastin tune ;)

  • Epic guitar I swear!

  • The people who didn't like this song are entitled to their opinion without being abused for it. iI we all liked the same things life would be pretty damn boring.

  • Love the song, but its hard to love it as much when it is almost an 80% blatant copy of Raspberry Jam Delta V :( I'm sure Satriani doesn't care about Petrucci though, unlike Coldplay (who are lame).

  • @PimpmoGuitarman I disagree. It has a much heavier tone then raspberry jam. The melody while similar, is still quite different. Has a bit of an asian sound or something to it.

  • WTF i never heard anyone go off like that on guitar before this isn't just some pentatonic jam this whole album is orchestrated guitar work at its best!!

  • wow - epic tune

  • Does any one hear in your face by children of bodom in the main chugging riff, great shit though, oh and Zacariah go fuck youself, if any one is aloud to have a massive ego about their guitar playing skills its JP.

  • @313toejam actually In your face came out later in 2005 than this album

  • really really cool

  • my ears just had an orgasm

  • @fr3dr1k1 eargasm

  • wow its like utz utz utz + metal shredding

    my ears came

  • One of the best instrumental track ever!

  • 0:45 is strikingly similar to Joe Satriani's opening in Raspberry Jam Delta-V off the album Crystal Planet. John must have felt he could do a better version of it (which he did lol).

  • @ezmo55 im sure its more of a coincidence, these kinds of things happen all the time.

  • Correction: this is more EGOmania from John Petrucci

  • @Zakariah1971 cool story bro

  • Never forget when I heard it on custom 1200 WATT Peoneer stereo in totally muffled room!!!

  • For a "progressive rocker," this entire solo album teaches me NOTHING as a musician, except how to be a better EGOmaniac.

  • @Zakariah1971 Well it isnt all technique, it is also sound. You as a musician should know that. Iff you want impssible lines mayb you should try paco de lucia or something like that. And throw away your plectar!Doesnt help making things so advanced nobody is able to follow you..Like some Miles Davis solo's and shia.! Or start learning Jass, i mean iff you want progressive sound, what are you doing in rock?

  • @Zakariah1971 I'm not sayin that this is the best song on this album but...Petrucci's ability to mix the technically remarkable with melodic, appealing lines is amazing! And, if you are a musician...then don't limit yourself to one genre, thats what progressive is all about, taking all kinds of different styles to create a fresh sound; thats what Dream THeatre did. Progressive music is influenced by all music.

  • @Zakariah1971

    No need. You're already there.

  • Whowever this dude is...does Satriani better than Satriani himself and 10 times better guitar sound....Great job whoever you are...very nice!

  • @wlmmn i came with you. and i'm proud.

  • This song is to cool. It sounds like Egyptian Disco Rock.

  • 2:42 I came

  • too much perfect <3

  • yhea petrucci

  • yeahh blowjob & anal & enything u want in a prog metal song. A DREAM!!! (theater :P haha)

  • :O oh my god, ooooo petrucciii u are a god

  • The nine guys who dislike this are just retarded.

I'm like having an orgasm every time I hear this music...

  • Take care of yourself John I hope you never get neuropathy in those fingers! You kick some prog rock ass !

  • this song is so great... its awsome to listen

  • EPIC

  • WHO SAYS THAT PETRUCCI HAS NO EMOTION IN HIS PLAYING ?!?!?!?!?!??!!?!?

  • HOLY FUUUUCK

  • OMG!!!... EARGASM!!!!

  • best intro ever

  • The electronica guitar melody at 0:46 sounds like the intro melody of Joe Satriani's Raspberry Jam Delta V.

  • Comment removed

  • @philippaopao dude its called tappin no electonics just plain mastery

  • @harry1497 I know haha, that's why I said it's a "guitar" electronica melody because it sounds like something out of electronica music. Sorry for the wordplay though.

And it's not actually guitar tapping, I think. I'm hearing a pick attacking the strings. The intros of both songs are made by a very steady picking technique based on alternating open string/s and notes high on the fretboard . :)

  • @philippaopao if these needs to be a battle look up a vid or tabs of the flourish he does during it and ull see the 3rd and 5th notes are tapped

  • @harry1497 Nah no need, I'm not a troller anyway haha. Well it looks like he uses a combination of the two, like multiple hammer ons and pull offs. Pardon me because the typical two handed tapping suddenly came into my mind when you said it, haha.

  • @harry1497 By the way I'm talking about the intro at 0:46 - 1:02, just to make things clear, haha.

  • complile all of petruccis works, and lets see what u got to match that. Then when u realize what u thought was cool u came up with was probly done 10 yrs ago by Petrucci go wipe your but with your shitty tabs of your gay ass solo hahaha Petrucci invents scales son!!!!!!

  • I just LOve the part at 3:15 and onwards . amaizing Metal lick.

  • I agree. john petrucci is a god. but why don't you tell me something I don't know?

  • 2:43 omfg

  • Trooch friggin ROCKS!

  • I just can repeat: He is GOD!!!!

  • petrucci rapes every other shredder simply with his music alone!

  • orgasm at 1:34

  • The 7 people that disliked this song just dont know what music is....

  • @amandapappa 9 now :(

  • @amandapappa 9*

  • @amandapappa sadly its reached 10

  • @HPEJuggalo93 Thats because when people post comments like amandapappa, other people vote down just to screw them up, which I find quite funny.

  • @amandapappa they must have read it wrong: dis i like!

  • @damadstuntman that the most original oen i have ever heard and im srs no sarcasm

  • why does the drum sound so electronic? O_o

  • @KazeReload and why not ?

  • @zer0da It's strange xD it's the first time it happens with them :P anyway after about a minute Portnoy starts his incredible drumming again :)

  • man this stuff is so incredible! ...

  • mind blowing licks! best ever!

  • Satch sounds...in a wayyyy... I luvs it!!1 <3333

  • @soulplatos it does in away!

  • john petrucci is one of the best guitarists of our time and he keeps showing that

  • the rhythm guitar of the intro is the same of in your face by children of bodom...

  • @Reaper93MV well considering that the album this song is on was released before children of bodom even began recording the song "in your face", i'd say you have it backwards. the intro to "in your face" is the same as the rhythm guitar at the beginning of this song.

  • @EternalRift You are mistaken man, CoB came out with in your face in 04 for a EP prior to the release for the album Are you dead yet. The song on this video, was on an album released in 2005. To be honest its probably entirely coincidental considering both songs are so close in age. Great song though =)

  • @JakTheStripper actually your right. as a CoB fan i just want to Add that the intro riff does sound like the intro to in your face great song btw but kissing the shadows ftw) but if you listen closely its missing that one triplet and double beat that makes it in your face. i had to listen to in a few times myself to notice and hell yea one great song!

  • @Reaper93MV I was gonna say that exact same thing hahah Both are still good songs by great guitarists tho!

  • i love the sweeps at 4:27 AWSOME!

  • I can't say Petrucci has boundless emotion in his playing and it just sounds like I'm listening to a Dream Theater instrumental (just give me a thumbs down, I won't respond because all people will say, "Nuh uh!". Which is nothing). But, he has loads of talent and a unique character. He is certainly a respectable musician.

  • @DodKrone Im probably one of the only one's on here that agrees with you. He's an amazing musician, but his playing could have more emotion. It's too "linear" if you catch my drift.

  • @DodKrone i agree with you, but i love dream theater instrumentals. so hey! =D

  • Sounds like 'In Your Face' by Children Of Bodom. Kinda ironic, cuz Alexi hates Petrucci.

    I like both though.

  • wow amazing song specially 0:45 the music is fckin awesome...masterpiece...

  • My Goal in life is to be as jacked and good at guitar as John Petrucci himself!! Donno if thats a feasible or even slightly realistic goal!

  • whats the tuning of the song?????

  • @ironmaidenshredd

Normal tuning, done with a 7-string tho.

  • perfect

  • This whole album is just totally badass. It basically shows Petrucci has awesome emotion in his songs, unmatched technicality, and awesome musicality. just total awesomeness.

  • Comment removed

  • Does anybody have a tab for the ryhthm part at 0:29 - 0:46?

  • As a fellow guitarist dude, Id have to advise you to NOT use tabs, their always off by alot, learn it by ear dude.

  • yeah, learning it by ear will make you a better guitarist and musician. rythmic and melodic dictation are chicken soup for the technical soul of a guitarist, or just any musician really but it especiialy helps in this feild.

  • @oneblackbelt4god If ya have a seven string, just strum the B string *Lowest* in time with it, and when he does the roaring sound sorta thing, just do a D power chord. *Third fret B, fifth fret E* *Shrugs* Simple really.

  • Amazing. I love John Petrucci!

  • from his album of epic awesomeness: Suspended Animation

  • EXTREME COOL :D

  • Cool, that whammy bar part at the beginning sounds like it's taken from the Egypt levels of Crash Bandicoot.

  • some parts of this tune are ideal for a "top gear" advertisement ;D

  • excelent!!!

  • This is one of my favorite Petrucci songs.

  • Hear that guitar howl! ftw :)

  • This is like sex to my ears :P

  • @StreetDriftRacer your a pervert

  • @StreetDriftRacer

    I agree! :)

  • this makes me.. horny... lol

    long live petrucci \m/

  • probably because this is what exctasy sounds like if it could make sound lol

    petrucci for life

  • hell yeah xD

  • petruccis solo albums are much more well produced than paul gilberts solo albums

  • Has he made more then one solo album? I thought this was his only one!

  • @Rafsalad

    Than*

  • That doesn't really make any sense!

  • @Rafsalad THAN - used as a function word to indicate the second member or the member taken as the point of departure in a comparison expressive of inequality ; used with comparative adjectives and comparative adverbs. used as a function word to indicate difference of kind, manner, or identity ; used especially with some adjectives and adverbs that express diversity.

THEN - at that time; over that period of time

  • Do you have nothing better to do with your time THAN correct gramatical errors on youtube comments?

  • I appologize, its just that when people mix up "then" and "than' It bugs the poop out of me.

  • I know what you mean. My English is very good normally, I can't believe I made that mistake. Anyway, has he made any other solo albums? Lol
