well there realy isnt any story to left 4 dead so you wouldnt need it to understand left 4 dead 2 other than there is an infection going around. These new infected are well... new because in the opening seen of l4d 1 it said 2 weeks after the first infection, So left 4 dead 2 will probably say something like 2 months after the first infection. I dont know i am just guessing. But the point is that you dont need left 4 dead 1 to understand what is going on in l4d 2

in l4d2 all boss infected are mutated differently so you might be playing as a smoker with a poison tongue or another mutation and also there is another boss infected called the haggard and it throws scrap metal from its back at the survivors and a common infected called mud men when they hit you your screen fills with mud
