This is not a slippery slope. The entire point of private security is to be the eyes for when Police need to show up. They are accountable by having their names and badge/ ID #'s on their uniforms and any reports they have to file. They have to give them out whenever asked. And its not blending police into private corporations, its preparing police to react to the most likely targets.

by remaining peaceful and organized, and by throwing out inciters, themselves... instead of chanting with, or just standing by, you'd open up a venue for the police to be more trusting, they're individuals, it just so happens they have slightly better nerves, better training, and armaments (riot shields, teargas, and batons as opposed to molotovs and baseball bats)
furthermore we know rioters are damaging toronto with their violence, the police can be scared too, training doesn't remove fear

the truth is that those kinds of exercises are important, they can be a little worrisome at the time, disruptive even, but it's important that you have a bit of training, the G20 is huge, there's a higher expectation of massively devastating attacks, and canada's police forces aren't exactly trained for that much, so of course some temp training would be in the books
