Can't any Supreme Court judge come and read these message boards. If these comments were made about ANY other group, these members would be BANNED! God, oh God, please explain why this bigotry is allowed to continue.
No it doesn't. There have been cases of gay employees going to their employers to get medical coverage for their domestic partners, only to be told "company policy says we give coverage to spouses. You're partner isn't your spouse, because your not married."
Gay people deserve to have the rights that straight people do, simply because they're straight.

Besides throwing around the term "separate but equal" to connotate times of slavery and inequality...please be aware that separation is well embeded in our everyday govt. I may pay taxes like everyone does (equal) but I might pay 28% when some else pays 35%...(separate). Dont think it doesnt happen.
Prop 8 was about protecting traditional marriage ...it was not geared to alienate a group of people, as was determined by the votes and the judges.
I appreciate you at least reading my point of view....
In regards to the one comment on my page...I leave it up as a constant reminder to me that even though the NO side screams for tolerance, some of the No voters are not seeing tolerance as a two way street. Its comments like that which prove the hypocracy of several commenters.
Great! It's short, but this could be a stepping stone for better education of Gay history. I wish more Gay people would learn their history because so many don't know it, so no one fights back. Historical information can be used to dispute claims by religious extremists, those "social conservatives" extremists or terrorists.
great video..i dont understand, why some people think that gay people are sick or not normal..everyone shall have the right to decide who and how he/she will love
Hmm. I don't think this video will play well in the Central Valley. It's just going to be seen as another attempt to "cram our lifestyle" down their throats.
What WOULD work is having a person of faith talking about the issue, a pastor or a priest. Someone who lives in a conservative "Middle-America" area talking about the gays and lesbians they personally know.
Another thought, I really dislike the slogan "Because Equality is our Right. Join the Fight." That's REALLLLLLLLLY not going to play well in the Central Valley. You want to increase tensions here?
Join the Movement. Don't join the fight. You're re-enforcing the opposition's framing of the debate as a "Culture War." DON'T THINK OF AN ELEPHANT.
Read George Lakoff's book, "The Political Mind: Why You Can't Understand 21st-Century American Politics with an 18th-Century Brain."
LoveDisciple, god is not love. Certainly the god of the bible is a hate-filled being (read it and see). Rather, love is love. And that comes from humans, not god. And that makes me glad.
I applaud EQCA for making this video. That said, I have some serious reservations about it:
(1) the video still shies away from showing gay and lesbian people. There are no gay families with their children, and one of the married couples is a silhouette and can't be seen clearly. We shouldn't be scared to hide ourselves like this.
(2) the video portrays gay people more as victims, when we should be portraying ourselves much more as strong, competent people who stand up for ourselves.
Hello, I think I disagree with you because when they show all those dates and what has happend to us (LGBT), they're showing that after all that hate, we are still here, we're strong enough to be here.
Harvey Milk was correct when he said that "Hope will never be silent." I know that I will NEVER be silent. Equal rights for all is the only thing I will ever accept.
"Images like that work in a personal context". . . .Exactly, it's personal, but has more to do with marketing techniques. EQCA has completely dropped the ball here and is wasting whatever cash on hand that is left preaching to a choir.
"Most gays did nothing, and deserved to lose." . . .SERIOUSLY? In 8 words you've just negated all of us who DID?
Whist I agree with many of the disappointed voices here, I do feel that we need to band together instead of knocking each other down. If there are folks out there who could do a better job relaying the message of equality, then get in here and do it. Most all of the video images are available from online sources. Get to writing and editing your own message that WILL have an impact. Trashing the sincere efforts of others does nothing to further the education and the necessity of equality for all.
Look, showing families on an ad isn't going to work. Images like that work in a personal context - which means gay people talking in real life to people who don't believe in our right to marry. Those conversations simply don't fit into a 30 second ad. That's the work that all of us have to do - much more than just writing checks and sitting back like some kind of armchair quarterback. I worked this campaign. I know how few of us really sacrificed. Most gays did nothing, and deserved to lose.
History is made by those who show up. This time, most of our side didn't show up until it was too late. There are things that a campaign can and cannot do well. These are 30 second ads, ideal for spreading fear, lousy for showing love. EQCA can make the argument that equality matters. Straights don't know our history, and don't believe that not being allowed a marriage license is that bad. We have to show them. You want to put a personal face on the issue? Feel free - we've been waiting.
Disappointing that this is not a strong ad. It's just the same old message, not focusing on the families. The Don't Divorce Us Fidelity video is much stronger than this and their's was just derived from photo submissions. That's that kind of message you need to put in front of people.
I agree with the others so far, this isn't strong enough, Harvey's great but we need to have have our families visible and on front. It's their lives that are being hurt by this unfair law.
Besides the beatings and job discrimination much of the suffering of gays and lesbians is hidden to the public, in mental pain and anguish that sometimes results in suicide.
This Ad depicts Matthew Shepard as a "beating", when in fact it was murder. An insult to those of us who have been bashed, and an insult to the Shepard Family IMO.
God hates fags. My that is such an ignoramous comment. Who ever made that sign has got to be one dumb mf. It blows my mind there is such stupidity out there alive and kicking. As if that person knows God. hahahahahaha! God doesn't hate! God is LOVE!
Its the first of many for a new campaign. If prop 8 taught anything its that you cannot win over the will of the people by force, even if it is the right thing. You have to build passion into people, but in a more subtle way.
EQCA has done some great things in the fight for marriage equality... This unfortunately won't be much help. Its not really a bad video, but as others have already have said, it doesn't make that big of an impact... We need to send a message that strikes a nerve in people everywhere. Something that will make them passionate about our cause. This is kind of half-assed honestly =(
Why didn't they just edit down the "Fidelity" film and use that in addition to this one? I agree with averyj, could have been better. Where are the homos with marketing degrees?
