This particular song calls back the sands of time to when I was carefree and full of awe and wonder about the world I live in. The course of life can sometimes take the wind out of your sails but hey that's where good friends, family links and strong relationships with loved ones come in no matter how far away you are from them even on your birthday it doesn't matter because friends and family back you up to the hilt, wonderful song best left in memory lane though x JJ
That is a brilliant song. Fantastic to think that someone chose that song to perform on X Factor. those Judges should have been voted off. they obviously have a limited scope when it comes to fine music.
"The rhyme of Zoom and Boom with Moon has captivated scholars of music for at least 100 years. If Shakespeare were alive today, he would go to school and earn three degrees in his pursuit of the genius that is locked within the lyrics penned by Fat Larry's Band. "ED
I just can't quantify what it is that gets me about this song but when it comes on the radio in the car I must look like some complete nutter screaming it out at the top of my lungs. It gets me every time and long may it do so. I love it!!!
Its not all about heroin. He's with a girl,in a park, and they're falling in love whilst maybe having a smoke. Smack doesn't sound this this good on its own, far too melodic.
The majestic nature of this song brings out the greatness in every living being, Fat Larry's voice can extinguish an erupting volcano and calm a tidal wave at the same time.
The meaning this song has for the human race cannot be put into words, it's mythical nature will be remembered for centuries to come.
lovely song and a great pity that the tone deaf know nothings that pass for judges in the British X Factor chose to rubbish it. The contestant who sang it was voted off and it is such a shame as I think he was very good, not the winner but still deserved to go much much further
Classic song but.....it's really about heroin addiction. ZOOM is or was slang word for this in the 80's. Listen closely to the words and it makes sense. Do a Google on it with reference to the meaning.
Bugger! That's reallybad... I have loved that song forever and it has just been ruiened in a few seconds :-( Booo to that! You're right though just listened to it and it does seem that way :-(
i reckon the bridge was the work of Larry so he could bag a share of the songwriting credits. It was his band after all but must have been hilarious when he produced that at rehearsal "ok guys here's my bit...faster and faster etc once in my lifetime etc." It works in a strange way though.
The 80's were a time of fun and easy going times, God help us now! but these truly great songs bring me back to where I find some peace thinking of great friends,.
i'm 14 i first hered this song on only fools and horses i think its the episode called diamonds are for heather but i listened to it on youtube and listened to it every day since!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@cakesfairy I think you're right, and she ends up going back with her ex leaving Del heartbroken. Only Fools & Horses had a knack of including incidental music at poignant moments, they only ever did it a handful of times but it was always effective.
LOL "I used to be a drug addict and this song saved my life". The song is about just that, getting smashed on cocaine. Every verse has a reference to being nutted on the stuff. Zoom is slang for coke, it's also why he died young....he loved the zoom too much..pity cos the song is genius and so were they...Darryl Grant was the singer, Fat Larry was the drummer (and not the one with the voice of an angel). If you listen ot the lyrics, it's an incredibly well encrypted song about getting mullered
sorry mate, it wasn't my life they saved, and if I had ever been suicidal I wouldn't post it on YouTube - My point is that it's actually a very serious song about 'zoom' which is coke / heroin etc and this song is actually quite sad as it highlights how it takes over your life - Can't quite see how a song like this would stop you from topping yourself, but each to their own - I think it was mkant66 you should have sent it to
I used to be a drug addict and alcoholic and I was planning to kill myself because I lost my iPod, but thanks to Fat Larry's Band and this heavenly song I decided to live! Now I get high on life!
I really like this song I first heard it as a kid on the radio and it stuck with me ever since. Lovely melody, nice rhythm and sweet lyrics. I wasn't born when this was made but it beats todays music hands down!!!!
What an incredibly moving melody ! As a disco music fan, I like such their danceable tunes as Lookin' For Love, Act Like You Know, Here Comes The Sun, etc. But I strongly believe that this fabulous Zoom is unduly underrated. Thanks for posting !
Zoom was always one of the last songs to be played at the ending of the night at Genevieve's nightclub in Sunderland in the 80s ' if you didn't have a date by this time it was your last chance to scan the room for someone ( preferably the opposite sex ) who you had missed .............or seen earlier but wanted to try to find someone better first !!

I always knew it was caled Zoom, I just never knew whom sung it. I now know it is
