  • Sick!

  • ELP meets Happy the Man meets Gentle Giant meets King Crimson. Or something. Or nothing like that at all.

  • The Construktion of Light + Lark's Tonges in Aspic + "that" funny sound maded by a bicicle

  • The one video on Youtube that can make me cum and cry at the same time.

  • Video needs an HD update

  • Have to love the haunting moans starting at around 3:00, very enthralling but then again the heavier guitar parts right afterwards... Great composition! Period! And a dead-on finish! ;) Rightly written and built like everything else around them... Gotta love 'em!

  • my favourite song off the album. Pure bliss

  • my music theory teacher's brother in law is the drummer in this band

  • @evangelos94 and I know a guy who knows a guy who knows a girl who knows a guy who knows a guy that knows Mike Portnoy... How cool is that!?!?!

  • What...... I just got mindraped.

  • Did The End Records steal this video from themselves? HD please!

  • i can hear king crimson stuff in sgm this is great !

  • The progression of the mood of this song has to make it one of, if not my single favorite songs of all time. They could not have made the ending more powerful if they tried! vid does it no justice though... it's kinda lame

  • The progression of the mood of this song has to make it one of, if not my single favorite songs of all time. They could not have made the ending more powerful if they tried!

  • Sleepytime Gorilla Museum's FINAL Los Angeles show

    April 8th, 2011.

    At the Troubador.

  • A.D.I.D.A.G.

  • @rbass311 All Day I Dream About Gorilla!!!

Nice take on a classic song name which I won't name here as I will more likely get trolled on for liking that band!!!

  • golf balls!!

MOUAHAHAHAHAH!!!

  • jesus this is mad, I love it haha

  • one of the best cuts on the album, can't wait to hear their next release

  • this sound extremely similar to "Flying" by The Beatles...

  • @MELONMOVIES I'd have to strongly disagree.

  • @BlahKing101 you know what I mean, I love Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, and I love the fact not all the fans are fucking trolls :D lol

  • the video just doesnt do it justice. its completely different seeing them in concert. this is a band that doesnt sound very good as an audio file, but is mind blowing in person. with pop its just the same person on the stage playing their music you've already heard very load. with sleepytime, its a completely different experience and if anyone thinks this sounds good on this video, then go to one of their concerts because it will blow your mind.

  • It's sad the amount of pretentious comments on this. This is fucking awesome music! That is all :D

  • So who can tell me something about John Kane?

  • fuck dream theater????

hmm haw can you compare these two bands? I love both of the but not for the same reason.... this band is closer from King Crimson than Dream Theater...

    juste stupid comment...

anyway, I fuckin' love Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, this song is really great... this album too............ and so is "Of Natural History"...

Hope to see them in France!

  • awesome.. did sgm hire the brothers quay on this one??

  • Awsome visual and musical work. I don't like very much prog metalish bands, but this guys are in otehr league. Most of all, I can clearly hear the hand of a talenetd composer throughout the entire melody.

  • Actually, these guys are Avant-Garde Rock or Rock in Opposition. Generally this form of music is more abstract than progressive Rock/Metal.

  • I warned you Jeff

  • Un petit quelques choses des frères Quay!

  • comparing SGM to MrBungle shows that you don't understand shit of music. it's like comparing Beatles with The Police just because both are pop bands. fuck off, go listen to Slipknot.

  • I'm sick of every alternative band being compared to Mr. Bungle. This sounds nothing like Mr. Bungle combined with anything.

  • @10000EARTHQUAKES It's like they are trying to make Avant-garde a genre...it's not a genre, is a way of feeling, a way of making art: pure art with no limitations.

  • @10000EARTHQUAKES I agree. There are A LOT of other weird bands out there.

  • If Tool Primus And Sc3 had a baby this would be it

  • @T3mplar427

more like Tool and Mr Bungle, ya big dummy

    ;)

  • @T3mplar427 And a beautiful baby it is. Those are 3 of the greatest bands to grace this earth.

  • If you remove tool and put in Thinking Plague then you would be correct ;)

  • Tim Burton must've cried when he saw this.

  • @JrFLYnnIV I hope i don't sound pretentious or whatvr but i think this video is more in the style of Jan Svanmajer and/or the Quay Brothers. If you haven't seen Svankmajer's "Alice" then you should go watch that immediately. It's a masterpeice of creepy stop-motion animation. I thinks there's some clips on YT.

  • @JrFLYnnIV And Danny Elfman

  • reminds me of Fantomas with there own twist, shits the coolest ive heard in awhile

  • It's cool that you are looking at experimental music, but I'm sure in time you will hear how different in style and composition this song is to any Fantomas song.

  • I can hear the difference in style, and transitions, and pure sound, i wouldnt for a second say they are identical... its just the closest thing that i can compare it too. besides the residents. I love experimental music too a point, i wont just listen to anything tho.. these guys just seem to have the way with music to meld new sound an insanity very nicely together, i just havent heard too many bands do that successfully

  • One of their best

  • Bad trip, man! Bad trip!

  • they is strange

  • Frank Zappa recorded this in purgatory?

  • lmfaooooo

  • really Tim Burton????

  • pardon

    > 3:40 = larks' tounges

  • Great! >4min reminds me of Larks' Tounges in Aspic pt2

  • ur moms a guitar

  • There's a lot much more going in this song than just a guitar, and violin is certainly one of them, played by the marvelous Karla Kihlstedt.

  • You're forgetting about the Percussion Guitar that steals almost the entire song, it's looks amazing live.

  • you forgot Matthias Bossi, Moe! Staiano and Michael Mellender

  • in the latter part sure. In the beginning i think she's playing the percussion guitar.

  • Yep, the best part of this song is hearing her manipulation of that instrument. At least she isn't striking it completely like an idiophone like Wes and the others. Some amazing shit comes out of it.

  • There some amazing shit when they strike it in songs like 'the stain'.

  • They never play the Stain live... so I really focus on the songs I do hear live. It's too bad, I try to get them to play Ablutions every time. Maybe I should buy them a cheap analog organ or something...

  • I'd guess the don't play 'the greenless wreath' live either. Such a shame. Yea ablutions is amazing as well.

  • violin douche played by karla and she is lovely

  • I LOVE THIS !!!

  • The violin between 4:18 and 4:34 is incredible.

  • try henry cow from 30 years ago...

  • Holy Fuckin Crap that was fucking insane!

That was the first time I've heard these guys...!

  • Try bands like idiot flesh, Stolen babies, the mars volta, ISIS, Giant Squid, king crimson, pyamids, reptile palace orchestra, igorrr, omar rodriguez-lopez, type-o negative, grayceon, pelican, mogwai, 13 & god, red sparowes, asva, stinking lizeveta, battle of mice, down, charming hostess, faun fables.... just to name a few

  • @luridoptics Mogwai?

    What the fuck?

Man, you listed some good bands in there, but you just had to fuck things up and name drop those pansies?

  • i've been a fan for years, but i must say i don't care for this track. doesn't do them justice.

  • really? i think it's just fine.

  • you are crazy man, this track was needed for the overall outcome of the album, and it is completely a genius song... i don't see how any could not like ANY song from sleepytime gorilla museum... THERE IS NO BAND BETTER... altho the mars volta is tied with them

  • I think he tried to say that this track is different of the general SGM music. But it is part of SGM aswell. :D

  • well what i noticed straight off was the lack of vocals. i like nils' voice a lot.

  • i saw these guys live in Feb of 07 with Estradasphere in San Francisco, and HOLY HELL that was a show and a half

  • Sleepytime Gorilla Museum fukking rules :D

  • this reminds me of sikth and i am not sure why

  • To me it sounded very King Crimson, which is cool. I would be disappointed if SGM was not influenced by them.

  • The metal break's rhythm at 3:40 is almost exactly like Larks' Tongues in Aspic.

  • can som1 explain to me what SGM is? like genre/performancewise??

  • SGM = Sleepytime Gorilla Museum = The Very Best Band Of All Time (besides the mars volta)

  • This music is amazing. You will find with a lot of avant garde music, you ned to hear it a few times to really get into it, but then you love it a lot more and for a long time. Its my sign of a good record. On the other hand, chart pop stuff is throwaway. Its liked most on first or second listen, by number 5 its hated or boring.

  • the tone of the bass sounds kind of like larks tounge in aspic, but this has much more of a whimsical, 3/4 feel to it.

  • Love this band and Idiot Flesh! If I MUST compare them to other bands--King Crimson, Art Bears, Henry Cow come to mind. Wish that SGM would play Florida. And yes I hear a vague similarity to "Lark's Tongues in Aspic part 2"

  • 04/27/09 Jacksonville, FL Jackrabbits

    04/28/09 Orlando, FL the Social

    Your wish is granted.

  • Comment removed

  • I've been listening to King Crimson for 30 years. The only similarity to Lark's Tongues in Aspic is that there is violin.

This is the best band I have heard in a long time.

  • Yep.

  • it's better than music. it's sleepytime gorilla museum.

    and it's d00d, not dood.

    fucking n00bs.

  • @liquortongooksberg

Noobs are choobs and choobs are noobs!

  • This is music, my dear sir, even though this one's different from the songs before and after it.

What did you expect - UTTER CONFORMITY TO WHATEVER NORMALITY IS?

  • Mellender is credited for Music on this song. The main reason I embrace the guy; such a great song.

  • I don't really hear the resemblance to Lark's Tongue In Aspic. This song is pretty great I guess you could consider Sleepytime Gorilla Museum the King Crimson for America.

  • fuck, this band is awesome!

how i did not heard of them before?

reminds me fantomas, but 1 billion times better

    awesome artwork on the vid

i really would like to see some studio stuff vid

  • In my opinion Fantômas is more original, but is too an awesome band. Search for Estradasphere, another good band, but it seems more to Mr.Bungle

  • vou procurar a banda, depois posto o que eu achei

    valeu pela dica!

    abraços

  • Blargh.

  • Originality isn't the key here. :)

  • Well, for me is an important key. Is Avantgarde or experimental music, so originality is a good adjetive. That´s why I like it

  • If ya like avantgarde you will enjoy "the residents" but you probably already know bout em. Enjoy

  • Ok, Thanks. I´ll listen it and I will tell you my opinion

  • The Residents are credited with the making the earliest "music videos." And what I meant by originality not being key is that this band does not claim they are original, that are avant-garde, etc... it's part of their principles and their philosophy.

  • Ok, you´re right, but... come on... Avant-garde is the most original style of music. Avantgarde groups are totally different between them... I mean, it´s really original. It´s not like rock or... other musics. It´s actually the most different style

  • Stagnation can be found in anything. I've not been thrilled by everything avant-garde out there--especially when your friends want you to listen to horrible noise in the car around town and all they do is smile like it's the most original shit out there. Even I draw the line there... it has to have form and function--SGM has tons of that. SGM is focused entirely on composition and texture. It's why I love them.

  • SGM is avant-garde and, like I said before, avant-garde groups are totally different between them. You can enjoy what you want, in avant-garde music there´s a lot of variety, but I love it in general. I love SGM, I love John Zorn, I love Estradasphere,... there are a lot of groups and they have something really different that´s make them unique. Fantômas it´s really original in composition, structures and concepts, like Moonchild. And Estradasphere... it´s awesome

  • I keep asking myself why I appear to be arguing with you, as I listen to all of those artists and projects. Well, I must admit, I neglect Estradasphere for some reason :P

  • Hey, dude. For me this wasn´t an argue, just a conversation. I prefer more John Zorn and Mike Patton (Mr.bungle, Fântomas...) than Estradasphere, but Estradasphere it´s just awesome

  • This music is so fucking unbelievable. It starts off calm enough, but then it gets gradually heavier and more chaotic.Me like.

  • this is a great band

video reminds me quite a bit of the brothers quay

  • Not close enough!! Because Robert Fripp surely would sue given his track record thus far!! You know this. :)~

  • for sure

    LOL

  • This video is so good, so interesting. Definitely my favorite of their music videos by far.

  • Fuck Dream Theater this is art!

  • @Nyogtha These guys are absolutely amazing and all, but Dream Theater is definitely art...

  • @Nyogtha

    Fuck Dream Theater in general!

  • Satanic Jazz?

  • Sigh...

I miss you guys. Especially you, MM

Australia is too far away from Oakland.

  • Though I love this, I must say, it's such a King Crimson spin off, if not copy alltogether ...

  • a song in a familiar key does not a copy...make. or something like that.

  • not a familiar key ... a familiar compostion ... one of the Lark's Tongue in Aspics ...

  • composition ... or combustion :-P

  • G'day Michael!

How do you write something like that? Is it a process of messing around with random stuff? It's hard to comprehend, because individually the parts seem random, but altogether it fits so damn well.

  • Love it, has a very sinister, almost decadently whimsical feel.

  • The Greatest Hits comment was meant as a tongue in cheeck indictment of our modern soc...don't bother.

Hey, there's a new Bon Jovi album out!

  • This is so cool.

    Kickass song and awesome video.

  • even their death metal tune has a nice grove to it. so does this. some funky bass.

  • Do they ever start singing? *listens intently*

  • their fingers do the singing! :D

  • amen to that!

  • the band originally wrote this song with lyrics, awesome lyrics, but it turned out they'd already been copyrighted by christina aguilera.

  • You don't need vocals to compose music...

  • timothypillowcase92, that was a stunning comment.

    Yes.

It makes me want to rush out and get their 'Greatest Hits' album.

  • i dont think there quiet yet but they have 3 albums that i know of maybe 4

  • to have a "greatest hits" album, a band must first have a "hit".

  • Wow, I just saw that comment from the M33rkat guy back there....

It fills me with a perverse sense of pride knowing that me liking this band actually aggravates someone that stupid so much.

  • The first min or so kinda sounds like The Flower Kings... and is that 7/8 time sig that the meter changes to at 3:43?? I hear a ONE-two-three-FOUR-one-two-three pattern going on, with some extra beats in between phrases...

what an amazing band, this album blew me the hell away...

  • Prog avant garde =)

  • wicked!! totally avant-garde. this owns.

  • thats what i call art! beautiful vid and song! i saw smg live in warsaw and they really are something worth watching! awsome!

  • I love sleepytime!

  • hm, cool...tool-like clip

  • Comment removed

  • well, you're right on your last point.

  • No, the notes are quite in tune. The disharmony is intentional.

Tell, me, how did you get to become quite so ignorant as you are? I am rather interested in just how indolent your condition is.

  • Chaos=Beauty!! :D

    Don't like? Don't listen.

  • Meerkat.... lol. Just lol. You really do fail at life. Just go back to your rap music and leave us alone.

  • Hey, don't start hating on other styles of music. Good music is good music. There's just alot of crap to wade through, no matter what genre you're talking about.

  • I was referring to his language. For some reason people seem to like rap with really foul language. /shrug

  • What a well thought out argument. And yes, artistry is a word. Go look it up. You can even do it online now so you can continue to avoid opening a book.

  • That's an amazingly mature, rational and well worded opinion you have. Are you, perchance a member of the lollipop guild?

I hardly blame you, it's not your fault you were born with an extra chromosome.

  • Amazing musicianship as always! I thank you for your wonderful artistry! Thanks to Michael Mellender the newer member for this masterful composition! STGM RULES!

  • Wow

  • Wow. That was great. And it matches their tone so well.

  • Wow two videos from the new cd.

  • nice tune, michael !and nice video too.

  • jesus christ they rock, but i would never make a video of an instrumnetal, even though it is really awesome

  • that was what i was thinking too...

I love the 'Mister Jack' tree .^_^.

  • Yes.

  • sometimes i agree with the stalker...

  • Fantastic visualization of a cool SGM song.

  • I was being facetious, of course. But from what I under about RIO, the term wasn't intended to imply a particular genre, though many of them sound very "Cow". I was really just wondering if there's a connection to this "Rock agains Rock"....RAR, I guess. I mean, it's all just really cool music to me. I suspect it's just SGM's due dilligence to ensure that the poisonous terms "prog" and "art rock" are not applied to them. But really, name such a moving target is about as goofy as naming storms.

  • Wow was THAT full of typos!

  • I guess it's the same. at least the meaning "in oppostion" and "against" mean the same. O.ô

  • What is there a difference between "Rock Against Rock" and "Rock In Opposition" (RIO)?

  • This is very Quay Brothers

  • where can we get the high definition versions of all The end videos ??? :D:D:D:D:D

  • OH sleepy time Gorllia Museum, you make me love.

Good job Ri, The brothers quay would be proud.

  • you know,

it only becomes more and more difficult for me to fight the urges to devote my life to stalking you guys.

    Gorgeous.

  • Brilliant!
