I would call the radio station to request it to be played on his birthday and fathers day every year. And he even surprised me with tickets to see her in concert just for this song. I loss my dad Feb 2, 2011 and I still want to call him..I dream of him and wake to calling his name..I had the best dad ever..he was the one who made me who I am today..he sacrificed the day he died and we where to take the life plugs from him and he went on his own so that we did not have to make that choice..we did always think of others first..he worked hard and gave us so much love,..he was special...he is now my angel in Heaven watching over me..Philip L Plasse RIP

the first time i ever heard this song was when i was in the car with my daddy. i was probably 7, and although there are parts that don't apply to him, i'll always remember looking over at his hands on the wheel and just feeling safe no matter what. his hands saved me from going through the windshield once when we were in an accident, and i'll honestly never forget that. he's visiting family on the other side of the world now, and this makes me miss him so much.

I remember in church when I was little and bored I'd grab my dad's hands and measure how much bigger they were than mine. I can still see how big his hands looked when I put my palm to his palm and how fun it was to mess with his wedding ring. Sigh, those were the good days.

I lost my Dad to cancer in 1998. He died with his bed surrounded by my Mom and all of us six kids with some of our kids standing behind us. This song describes my Dad in every word. He was a Mechanic and always fussed about his rough hands but to me they were security all through my life. He was a wonderful man, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. When he died his funeral procession was three and one half miles long. I love him so much. I miss him every day. Rest now Dad

I lost my dad just recently, on November 22nd, 2010. He was such an amazing father, and such an inspiration to me.. I used to listen to this song with my dad when I was a little girl.. So that's basically why my brother and I sang it at his funeral. It was so sad, I thought I couldn't do it - but I did it. I miss him a lot. Rest In Peace Daddy, I'll love you always! Ps, I'm only 17.. so I didn't get much time to spend with him :( Great song though!

My father left us a little over two years ago because he bumped his head. Just like Patricia Richardson. The old man did indeed sacrafice to keep us all fed. This song is me and my daddy's song. I absolutely love it, and it is very true about daddy's hands. My dad had a real bad heart attack 2 years ago, and we almost lost him. All I could do was listen to this song and cry my eyes out. Thank goodness he had the best heart surgeon in the world. i love you daddy and thanks for always being there even when you were gone truckdriving.

I rely on him for so much and hes always there to help me out of whatever mess i'm in or to help pay a bill or building anything, dad always has the answers. I don't know how I can ever follow in those footsteps and just hope I don't let him down when the time comes. My heart is with anyone whos lost thier dads too. I looked around at all the people their and they were all crying wich was expected but I think this is a really good song to remember him by because he was always helping and taking care of her and her children. He was a really nice and caring guy to everyone around him. We will all miss you and love you much. Im glad to have my family around to help out and to love us all.
