Move to a state that doesn't have such retarded gun laws... Tennessee has no max ammo limit (at least not the 7 walmarts I've visited near me). The walmarts I visit actually have started carrying wolf and tulammo which is great for range days :) bonus!
i'm sorry but you should expect that at walmart, if you know your shit and understand that they don't you wouldn't call for ammo, you'd go in and tell them exactly what you want. This video was a waste of your time to make and my time for watching. Shame on me
I went to a Wal Mart in Elk Grove, California and there was not a maximum amount of AMMO that you can buy at one time. I bought them out of their 7.62x39. I bought 20 boxes at one time.
Buying "cheap" ammo at Gander Mountain? I don't think so, they are WAY OVERPRICED.
My first choice: online
2nd: WalMart

The only reason I ever went to Gander Mountain was to play with the rifles and shotguns, but now they've remodeled the store and everything's behind the counter. well just so you know they now sell tula 7.62x 39 at my local walmart. But i sympathize with you when i first bought my M1A scout i went in to purchase some 308. he rang it up then asked to see my id so i was like no prob gave it to him and he told me that he could not sell it to be because i was not 21. im 20 i told him he was wrong and to look at the sign that said 18 to buy rifle and 21 to buy hand gun ammo he asked if it was rifle or hand gun ammo... i just smh and walked away.

Hey bro that sucks!! I don't shop at my local Walmart all that much but I will buy my target ammo there though because I do alot of shooting competition and it's so cheap for me until I can get a sponser, but a couple of people that work the gun counter do know there stuff pretty good. It's also crazy y'all have a limit, because I go to mine all the time and usually buy at least 4 boxes of .40s&w and 4 boxes of 9mm.
Walmart's ammo prices are unbeatable. Walmart's customer assistance is non-existent. You really need to know what you need and what your getting before you go there for ammunition.
A awhile ago when they still kept the ammo behind the counter, I asked for a box of "Remington .243 Win the 100 grains" and he puts a box of winchester .243 Win on the counter, "I asked for remington" his reply is no you said winchester. He obviously doesn't know how ammunition labels work.
Hey cutlerylover I'm sorry your experience was crappy. If you lived in florida where i am and you came to my walmart or called I could have told you what we had available.
I try to shop for ammo before I buy but that is not always easy because ammo dealers are few and far between where I live (I have to drive 100 miles round trip to El Paso to save any money, and the gas there and back reduces the savings considerably).
Just a simple P.P.U. (price per unit) survey will tell you all you need to know.
I buy a lot of Mega Packs at Walmart.
Winchester "White Box" is the best buy in most cases.
BTW: If you even need a Salesperson's advice you failed.
@hammerogod i feel your pain i live in L.C. NM have to go to El Paso to i miss the sportsman's warehouse we used to have it sucks that in a town of 100 plus thousand people there aren't really any good gun shops
Consider yourself lucky, The Walmart we have in my area have employees who barely speak and understand English. Most Walmart employees are not an expert on anything since they move from one department to another, they could be at electronics one hour and the next hour they get transferred to the Check-out Department.
i dont have problems at walmart buying ammo.... I assume they are morons from the start. I never call them because they almost never answer the phone. I just go there and point it out.
I know what your talking about. I was at walmart today picking up some 12 gauge ammo. I asked the guy for 00 buckshot and he said yeah we have it, so he goes behind the counter and hands me a box of slugs. I corrected him and he apologizes and hands me ANOTHER box of slugs. We go through that process literally 4 or 5 times until finally he pulls out some overpriced Winchester 00 buck.
its not just walmart. i have the same problem with bob wards and sportsman's warehouse. the stores seem to hire the most uneducated guy in the room and put him in charge of gun sales. i had a similar walmart experience about a maverick 88. the store clerk was reading the tags on the shot gun and kept telling me that they didnt carry a mav 88 because the tag said mossberg. it took me about three minuets to convince him that mossberg makes the mav 88. i buy online now for the most part.
lol! something similar happened to me 2 days ago. :p a KID running the section. I told him Federal 40cal 100rounds, and then pointed to it. He not one time even looked at me. So after sitting in front of them for a minute, he moved to the other side and then proceeded to tell me that they didn't have any. He literally had his hand in front of the box about 6 times! i wanted to jump over the counter and strangle him. lol!
i was in wall mart trying to get some 45 acp i was standing there for 20 mins and the bitch did not know what it was i was pointing to it and she stood there. then when i was paying for it say ask me if it is pistol ammo. then she told me she did not like guns and did not know why her boss put her there. i got to bimart for ammo
@Savci008 when you say subjective what do you mean? Also when you say more, what do you mean? If you want to know the velocity and things like that then the ammo dealers websites would have that info, but if you are looking at reloading you'd want to check the powder manufactures site. Another way would be to just go to gun videos about certain calibers and ask on there, or find a friend who is an avid shooter.
What I really seek is explanation that could be understood hands down even by those who have never used a gun, an explanation regarding everything from how can you recognize quickly the caliber of a weapon to which rounds/shells serve which purpose in practical, everyday shooting and whatnot.
@Savci008 well ammunition explained in a way that everyone would understand is the bang from the gun the destroys what it's pointed at, and defends what stands behind it? Or the cartridge that is placed in a firearm that turns it from just metal and wood, to a tool? Recognizing a caliber quickly just by looks will take time since there are hundreds and hundreds of them ranging from .22 to .50 and then there are gauges for shotguns. I have some knowledge and what I have I am happy to share.
@fuser662 I've read quite a lot about weaponry and firearms - but if, say, I'd go out to a shooting range I'd have no idea what ammo should I use at what range or for which weapon; or which weapons are for what purpose for the average non-millitary shooter. Simply put, there's a huge variety of ammunition and weaponry, and while I know the mechanics (how they work and everything alike to that), I don't know what do people consider when they pick a weapon and ammunition for shooting.
@Savci008 Depends on where you live won what guns/ammo you can buy as well as age. If you are looking at handguns the best thing to do is go down to the range and rent a few handguns and try out different calibers to see which one suits you. 9mm, 40 SW, and 45 ACP are the three most common listed from smallest to largest, cheapest to most expensive. Weapons will generally have markings on the frame or barrel that will tell you what caliber they use. Self defense or hunting purpose?
@fuser662 I hope the answer doesn't disappoint you: none, or if I really have to choose, self defense. If I'd ever want to use a gun I'd like to know what I should pick.
So are you saying that people choose their self defense guns (ones using 9mm, 40SW or 45 ACP) depending mostly on which one they feel the most comfortable with?
@Savci008 well you want to choose what you can shoot the most accurately, then there is the cost of practice to make sure you can shoot when/if you need to. But yes, I am of the thought that you should choose what you and your family can shoot. If a madman brakes into my home and kills me before I can stop him, I want my wife to be able to shoot my gun. I made sure she could shoot mine, although she prefers something smaller for her carry I know she can hit a man sized target with mine.
@Savci008 The reason I asked self defense or hunting is because you would use a diff gun for those. If it's just a gun to have at your house to protect your home when you need, then you don't want a big .50 cal since it can and will go through several walls, plus the recoil and flash would make it hard to shoot a quick follow up shot if needed. But if you are hunting elk, then you need that big of a bullet.
@fuser662 If you are getting a gun to just have at the house, that you won't shoot as much then you should look at the 9mm. It is cheaper then the others to shoot, and the low recoil makes it easy to hit even if you don't have as much time/money to practice as you would like. make sure you load the gun with a high quality hollow point though, since the FMJ doesn't do much to stop someone, and is very likely to pass through the intruder and several layers of drywall. HP will help mitigate that.
haha! Wow.... Can you seriously buy ammunition for guns at a department store in United States?! For Australians u have to go to a certified firearms store and show your gun licence... No shopping around :-p
Stop complaining... They are minimum waged employees that are not working at a gun shop, of course they are not going to know all the little things you tell them. Plus you don't HAVE to buy them, you just decided to buy them. It's not hard to wait 1-3 days, compared to buying them purposefully and then bitching about it.
dude I feel your pain i work at a wal mart and actually there is no training on ammo or guns. To tell ya the truth it pisses me off because I am the only one in the department that knows what someone wants when they ask for ak or sks ammo or the difference between a 12 ga and a 20ga. so ya I can definatley relate and for awhile there was a box limit on ammo during the "shortage"
it is 65 for the bulk pack of 9mm now :( shit sucks though got a bullet stuck in my g19 barrel. strange thing is a week or so before I got like 5 boxes of 9mm tula ammo for 10 bucks per 50 rds box i was like wtf wal mart carrying tula? next thing you know they are going to be carrying 7.62x54r russian spam cans
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@cutlerylover you have no idea what you're even talking about. your just as stupid as the next walmart customer. and btw... i'm eating hot pockets. (suck it)
@gookmarathon lmfao before started watching the video i saw this comment and TORLOLOLED all over it ahahahahaha hot pockets suck it lmfao epic ahawahwahahahahaha u gota be some fucking teen funny tho LMFAO
"and btw... i'm eating hot pockets. (suck it)" This is my new fucking favorite line of all time. Just throw the word 'nigga' on the end and you're set.
You're right about Walmart and their sports department. They have no clue. It's not just ammo, it's anything in the department. All they can do is ring up your purchase. Don't ask them anything about any product or - heaven forbid - ask them to compare two brands. I haven't purchased ammo there in over 3 years now because of the lack of knowledge / service.
I bought a box of Federal Value Pack of 550 of .22's at Wal-Mart and send them back to the factory because they weren't crimp tight enough, but Federal sent me 2 more boxes which seem to shoot alright.
I ask Wal-Mart about ammo that they didn't stock and I was told that I would have to buy 5 case's.
The UMC stuff is great. If possible, purchase your ammo online. Ammo Seek is a great site that will help you find good deals. Cabelas has a great sale on 223 with an ammo can right now and cheap shipping.
It's hit and miss. One walmart in the shit part of town never has any help since the employees are also scum bags for the most part. The one across town has an old geyser that's cool as hell and will help w/pretty much anything. Other emloyees will also help. They may not be experts but they unlock it and ring you up. I'm easy to please. I've even had employees blatantly ignore me, but not often. Except some nasty cashiers. That's calexico for you.
LOL you know the folks at your wal-mart are idiots! why would you ever trust them on the phone? the facts are that everybody working at the big box stores are store inventor & product challenged.
LOL 223 jesus crist omighty id ask him dose he know what fire arm 7.62-39 goes in ? then id ask him dose he know what 223 goes in? cause there two WAYYYYY diff Wepons ..what im trying to say is i dont think unless you understand Wepons you should not be able to sell Wepons or ammo .. I understand what you mean think about it if your new to guns and ammo and you want to fire a new Rifle or hand gun you would not want to be sold the wrong ammo and stick it in ur gun and if it did chamber OMG
@AmericaStandsStrong1 Just to be clear, no .223 and 5.56 NATO are NOT exactly the same. They have slightly different external dimensions and are loaded to different pressures. Some manufacturers don't recommend firing the more powerful 5.56 in their firearms. Generally you can fire .223 in a 5.56 barrel, but you should check with your manufacturer before firing 5.56 in a .223 barrel.
There's a point on it. 7.62. ROFLMAO. Had to pause the vid after I heard that. Cheaper than Dirt has great deals on ammo, although some of it is steel cased, and nonreloadable; but if you don't reload, what do you care? I bought like a metric buttload of steelcased 7POINT62X39 ammo from them before Y2K just in case for my SKS. Awesome price.
@YoungBrave2006 Also, find out if your range sells reloads. They used to sell reloads at my range in Cali, and it was way cheaper than the commercial stuff, and I never got any duds.
haha im 15 and i help people any time im in walmart because the people who work their are idiots so i sell alot of ammo for them!!!! when they are that stupid some one who knoows what they are talking about has to help and yes im a compition shooter so i go threw alot and Winchester White Box is the WORST
had the same problem its was sunday and my local gun shop was closed i need some more 22LR CCI MINI MAGS solids ( had just bought a box the day before at my gun shop ) so i got to the counter askeed for a box and she hands me a box of mags i said no i need long rilfe in the solids so she give me a box of LR in the hollow point i said no i need the solids she looks and turns back to me " says they dont make em any more " i laughed and said "funny i just bought a box yesterday " lmao i walked out
shoulda bought that wolf, remmington 7.62 is spendy usually a good ten bucks more... plus as far as I can tell it doesn't perform any differently. fuck walmart tho, they don't know shit.
i love when i ask for a bulk pack of fedral 22lr ammo and they go uh where is that at i have to lean over and point it out. we can buy as many boxes as we want.
i know this vid is a year old now, but my local wally world now carries tul ammo in 7.62, 9mm, 380auto and a few other i belive. steel case..... corrosive but man the price is right 5 bucks for 20.... 7.62x39mm
you must live in the Comifornia that is the only place where walmart has a limit of boxs of ammo you can buy. I live in Oregon and they have no limit or sales tax. I feel ya though i lived there for 22 years in Sacramento.
@hiderbear20 Here In CT near where I live one Walmart has the 2 box max and the other only sells shotgun shells, almost all of which are trap loads. I did once see some Tulammo at the first one though...
Wal-Mart is waaaaaaayyyy cheaper than any place online! Particularly bulkammo.com! I get 1000 of 40 s&w Winchester for $60 cheaper than the cheapest place on the internet at Wal-Mart!
@223JMH I just went to walmart today to buy ammo and the cashier tried to tell me it was 21 as well. I know she didn't know what she was talking about, so I told her it was 18 to buy rifle ammo (it is). She kind of gave me a hard time, but she didn't even check my ID...I guess it shows how much the workers at wally world care lol.
@FutureOfMFR Maybe its "Wal Marts" policy. It sucks because the walmart near me sells ammo for the same price and if not cheaper than dick's sporting goods!
omg!!! dude its walmart...you don't need a college education to work there...If you want ammo from walmart, go in and point to what you want....all of the prices are clearly displayed, nobody forced you to buy there. you winey punk
@2Gumble Yeah you can... where have you been dude? Its been like that for years although I would ALWAYS prefer a dedicated gun store for actually buying ammo and guns.
well I am lucky I guess, The one I go to has a few people that actually know what they are talking about. I asked the man for some 7.62x51, 7.62x39, 5.56x45, PDX1 12 gauge and he gave me everything I asked for quickly and suggested the cheaper of each brand. But I have had some real morons in the sporting goods department before. so I feel your pain.
The problem i've noticed with walmart is they don't stock ammo very well.I have a .380 and a 9MM and it seems to be a hassle is they have one and not the other most times.Thats why i've went to ordering online in Bulk.
yea i also dont like getting ammo at walmart, they NEVER have any idea whats going on. Never heard of the box limit @ walmart. In my area ive went in and bought 10 boxes of ammo, and then went back in and 4 or 5 more. That rule is dumb anyway, because theres a walmart everywhere and a person could just go driving around hitting all the walmarts all day.
walmart ammo sucks ass i got like a box of hollow points and they were all deformed and shit i had to throw half em out

Consider yourself lucky, The Walmart we have in my area have employees who barely speak and understand English. Most Walmart employees are not an expert on anything since they move from one department to another, they could be at electronics one hour and the next hour they get transferred to the Check-out Department.

He literally had his hand in front of the box about 6 times! i wanted to jump over the counter and strangle him. lol!

Cutlerylover!
I'd like to learn more about ammunition that's a bit more subjective than Wikipedia (eg. from gun users). Can you suggest any sites?
Savci008 2 months ago
@Savci008 when you say subjective what do you mean? Also when you say more, what do you mean? If you want to know the velocity and things like that then the ammo dealers websites would have that info, but if you are looking at reloading you'd want to check the powder manufactures site. Another way would be to just go to gun videos about certain calibers and ask on there, or find a friend who is an avid shooter.
fuser662 2 months ago
@fuser662 Thanks for taking the time to answer.
What I really seek is explanation that could be understood hands down even by those who have never used a gun, an explanation regarding everything from how can you recognize quickly the caliber of a weapon to which rounds/shells serve which purpose in practical, everyday shooting and whatnot.
Savci008 2 months ago
@Savci008 well ammunition explained in a way that everyone would understand is the bang from the gun the destroys what it's pointed at, and defends what stands behind it? Or the cartridge that is placed in a firearm that turns it from just metal and wood, to a tool? Recognizing a caliber quickly just by looks will take time since there are hundreds and hundreds of them ranging from .22 to .50 and then there are gauges for shotguns. I have some knowledge and what I have I am happy to share.
fuser662 2 months ago
@fuser662 I've read quite a lot about weaponry and firearms - but if, say, I'd go out to a shooting range I'd have no idea what ammo should I use at what range or for which weapon; or which weapons are for what purpose for the average non-millitary shooter. Simply put, there's a huge variety of ammunition and weaponry, and while I know the mechanics (how they work and everything alike to that), I don't know what do people consider when they pick a weapon and ammunition for shooting.
Savci008 2 months ago
@Savci008 Depends on where you live won what guns/ammo you can buy as well as age. If you are looking at handguns the best thing to do is go down to the range and rent a few handguns and try out different calibers to see which one suits you. 9mm, 40 SW, and 45 ACP are the three most common listed from smallest to largest, cheapest to most expensive. Weapons will generally have markings on the frame or barrel that will tell you what caliber they use. Self defense or hunting purpose?
fuser662 2 months ago
@fuser662 I hope the answer doesn't disappoint you: none, or if I really have to choose, self defense. If I'd ever want to use a gun I'd like to know what I should pick.
So are you saying that people choose their self defense guns (ones using 9mm, 40SW or 45 ACP) depending mostly on which one they feel the most comfortable with?
Savci008 2 months ago
@Savci008 To be more exact, here, in Hungary, getting to shoot isn't too easy and as of yet I didn't have the chance to try how guns feel in my hand.
Savci008 2 months ago
@Savci008 well you want to choose what you can shoot the most accurately, then there is the cost of practice to make sure you can shoot when/if you need to. But yes, I am of the thought that you should choose what you and your family can shoot. If a madman brakes into my home and kills me before I can stop him, I want my wife to be able to shoot my gun. I made sure she could shoot mine, although she prefers something smaller for her carry I know she can hit a man sized target with mine.
fuser662 2 months ago
@Savci008 The reason I asked self defense or hunting is because you would use a diff gun for those. If it's just a gun to have at your house to protect your home when you need, then you don't want a big .50 cal since it can and will go through several walls, plus the recoil and flash would make it hard to shoot a quick follow up shot if needed. But if you are hunting elk, then you need that big of a bullet.
fuser662 2 months ago
@fuser662 If you are getting a gun to just have at the house, that you won't shoot as much then you should look at the 9mm. It is cheaper then the others to shoot, and the low recoil makes it easy to hit even if you don't have as much time/money to practice as you would like. make sure you load the gun with a high quality hollow point though, since the FMJ doesn't do much to stop someone, and is very likely to pass through the intruder and several layers of drywall. HP will help mitigate that.

You're right about Walmart and their sports department. They have no clue. It's not just ammo, it's anything in the department. All they can do is ring up your purchase. @Russell9111 All three of those cartridges are the same exact one.
AmericaStandsStrong1 4 months ago
