this boss battle is so tough for me. i fought this guy and all my characters had reflect also without using ultima. you should try it it is not fun also at the end of the battle my characters survived just because i casted life 3 luckily.

p.s all characters are lvl 36-35.

equip WALL RING on one character and then cast LIFE 3 and on that same character, do not attack the magi master, and he will kill himself because all his spells will be reflected. He will cast ultima when hes about to die thats why you need life 3, this fight is impossible without having phoenix and life 3!!

Saying the fight is impossible without Life 3 is just stupid. Didn't you even watch this video? Sabin and Terra both had enough HP to survive it. It's more than possible to beat Magi Master without Life 3, you just need to have a lot of HP.

You can learn it from the Ragnarok esper (obtained in Narshe), or learn if from the Paladin Shield (also obtained in Narshe).

First, get Locke, put him in your party, and head for Narshe. Ragnarok is in the weapon shop; go inside and talk to the old man.  He'll give you the choice of taking the esper or a sword. The esper teaches Ultima. In the GBA remake, get the esper; else, grab the (awesome) sword, because...

An old man in the house DUE NORTH of the weapon shop will give you the Cursed Shield. Equip it, fight 255 battles (Ribbon helps), and it will turn into the Paladin Shield, which also teaches Ultima.
