So, even though the bank only has the $1.00 reserve, it also has the asset (loan value) of $9. That process "creates" money.

No its not, what he said was if you deposit $1 that the bank can loan out $9 or $10. In reality the bank can loan out 90 cents on a $1 deposit; they are required to keep 10 cents in reserve and they still owe the depositor the dollar. Icke would have you believe that the bank just creates 9 or ten dollars for every dollar that is deposited out of thin air and this is just not true

I'm absolutely certain, behind me on my bookshelf is no less than 100 books on the fundamentals of banking and interest. You're right there are a bunch of docs out there that purport the same thing as Icke, but they're wrong. If banks could turn $1 deposit into $9, would they ever be in financial trouble and need a bailout? The only money that a bank creates is money earned from interest on loans.

@jjrglobal My understanding of the way it works was that this money that was created was instantly added to the books as already-received income (future revenue considered current liquid assets). Then later down the line when that income never came, books became amazingly off-balanced and thus the financial system started crashing. At least, this is how I understood it.

I'm not sure I follow exactly what you're trying to say. The banks loaned 90% of the money that came into their bank in the form of deposits. A large portion of these loans were for real estate, when real estate went down and foreclosures went up, the banks began losing money because the assets they had loaned the money against were worth less than the original loan. The banks thought the assets were safe because real estate had not decreased in value for several decades
