  • I think this is probably the best version of the song I'v ever heard! Regardless of how strained the voice is like every singer has their off days ye know

  • One of the best band ever!!!

  • i have this one live in video cd^^rock n roll mga pare

  • 4:52 is the only off note I've ever heard Dawayne Bailey play

  • Yor are right about Kath. He was the backbone and founding leader of the group. But despite Cetera's angry departure and subsequent legal challenges with the group, he still had a an enormous part and involvement in the early success of the group as their legendary frontman. His talented lead singing was heard on a majority of their hits. The loss of Kath and Cetera can not and will not ever be replaced no matter how much the remaining members of the group try. They have become a tribute band.

  • ジェイソン最高!

  • Y'all NEED TO RECOGNIZE MAN !! F- N CETERA, (TO ME), WAS NO DIFFERENT THAN "MILLY VANILLY", DUDE !! LOL !! FOR REAL !!! Some of THE GREATEST CHICAGO TRACKS, WITH CETERA AS LEAD SINGER, WERE NOT WRITTEN BY CETERA, THEY WERE WRITTEN BY THE BAND !!! His F - N FAILED SOLO CAREER WAS "PROOF" that he WASN'T "SHIT", BY HIMSELF => HE NEEDED "CHICAGO" & CHICAGO NEEDED HIM !!! he tried "taking over", after Kath's Death but the Band told him: FUCK OFF, so he went solo & now he's a F - N BROKE NOBODY!

  • WHEW - man, I don't "Totally blame" the neg. comments, BUT THOSE PRICKS DON'T F- N UNDERSTAND THAT, WHAT UR SEEIN' HERE IS: What was AT ONE TIME A GREAT, FRICKIN AWESOME BAND, THAT STARTED IN THE LATE 60'S - ALWAYS USED REAL INSTRUMENTS - NO SYNTHESIZERS, M/F's !!!, AND JUST TRYIN' TO STAY "ALIVE, I GUESS...?? I FOLLOWED THESE GUYS FROM 1971 - Terry Kath, (Lead Guitar & Gun Collector), "Accidentally" shot himself, F - N PETER CETERA, FUCKED OVER the remaining band, & TRIED going solo-just SAD

  • It should be illegal to charge people to see this disaster. I feel ripped off and I am seeing it for free.

Just awful, off key and strained.

  • @mysonjd come on!, not so bad!, its a good performance...hold your horses friend...best regards to stopping by friend!

  • @cetera06

Bad vocal performance by Jason. Terrible. The rest of the guys can sing and are doing their part, but Jason is really bad.

I love Chicago, but it is just painful to listen to Jason sing a song that was meant for another voice.

  • @mysonjd my dear friend, I understand your comment perfectly, Jason had to sing all Cetera´s songs and well, I think he did his best, but he will never have such a majestic voice as the great Peter. Best regards my friend!

  • @mysonjd FUCK OFF - IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, CHANGE THE FUCKING CHANNEL, DICKHEAD !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @CADIEUXGR

Actually, I did change the channel, but you keep posting to the thread. Why don't you keep your mouth shut and if you don't like it, YOU change the channel.

I have nothing against the band or the song. Jason just can't sing the song. Chicago is one of my favorite bands, but this vocal performance is terrible. Since you obviously don't understand pitch, you should search out the 1970 live version of the song "Beginnings". Maybe after you watch that video you'll understand.

  • @mysonjd @mysonjd FUCK OFF - IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, CHANGE THE FUCKING CHANNEL, DICKHEAD !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @mysonjd

Life is so short...it is way too short for negative comments about anything factual or subjective. In your case, they are subjective which means that others souls can be filled with the same music that you are slighting. How about changing your own tune and making a decision to be an encourager from this point forward. I wish I had heard this song before I took the one I loved so forgranted. She was an angel and this song reminds me to always be an encourager.

  • @mysonjd

  • @mysonjd I could not disagree more !! Peace.

  • @mysonjd You re deaf~!

  • Jason is just horrible and the whole band kinda sounds like a garage band where no one knows how to play or sing.

  • @sauzaa are you nuts? jason is great

  • @sauzaa come on!, not so bad!, its a good performance...hold your horses friend...best regards to stopping by friend!

  • I agree with you gaae2000. Peter Cetera was the backbone of this once upon a time great band. And now to hear Jason butcher Peter's work and accomplishments is unbearable. Jason cannot carry a note is his life depended on it. Sad, but true.

  • @MrLen1955 JUST MY OPINION, BUT I STRONGLY DISAGREE !!! Cetera had a GR8 VOICE for their style of music, but TERRY KATH WAS THE "BACKBONE", AND THE GUY CREDITED WITH STARTING "CHICAGO" !! When they lost Kath to the Gun Accident, ALL THE F - N WHEELS FELL OFF !!! Cetera SUED THE BAND, after he left for a solo Career that FAILED MISERABLY, saying that "Chicago", was no longer allowed to perform the tracks that he sang in - AND EVEN STOLE ONE, FOR HIS OWN SOLO CAREER !! (Happy Man) F - N PRICK !

  • jason is excellent and doesn't try to copy cetera.

  • Peter's version is better by a long shot. Peter has it all looks and voice.

  • Amen!! icclebaba1985..........CHICAGO died when Peter Cetera left. Now, it's a cover band........

  • I really get tired of hearing how Chicago is nothing without Cetera. The man left them, Jason is an excellent replacement. If you listen to enough songs, Cetera had his bad days to.

  • w/out Peter this band is just nothing

  • @gaae2000

Peter without Chicago is nothing as well!

  • great song!!

  • 2:16...Need I say more??? lol

  • yeah.....that was pretty horrid

  • That keyboard player 1t !:31 is the most vile looking human being I have ever seen or heard. amazingly grotesque.

  • Not sure if I would define him as grotesque or not. He is definately filled with emotion and passion while performinig. Plus, you take a video of anyone, doing something they are passionate about, and you will find some odd looking moments, even on their best day. Its all an opinion anyway. Enjoy what part of you can.

  • is that Peter Cetera???

  • No. Not by a long shot.

  • Does it look like him??? Doh

  • you are so right Sirr. they're better!!

  • I think this performance is great-They're not trying to be PC or the original Chicago, they are their own singers in their own right.

  • You really are clueless,,,,the GREATEST VERSION OF THIS SONG!!!!PERIOD, now go away!

  • Oh shut up,you lot are like a broken record-DONT LISTEN IF YOU DONT LIKE IT 1000S STILL WILL!!

  • jason is just the best

  • Jason has so much more thamn Peter always~~~Love Jason

  • no peter cetera.,, no chicago..

  • Bill, just sing the song and quit jacking around. Quit with all the "Wo,wo,wo's"!

  • Chicago made a huge mistake kickin' Dawayne out! He added so much feeling from his guitar, could've been as close to Kath, Even though they have diff'- styles. I think it shocked Chicago how hard it was to get another guitarist that was as good.

  • We can make comparisons all we want between the new and the old, but I'll say this: These guys sound as good live as they do on wax (CD's for you youngsters) and there can never be another Peter Cetera. They clearly don't compromise image and cheap gimmicks for the music. I think that's what we should be grateful for. Few have done nor can do what Chicago has. They made growing up fun, and meaningful for me with their beautiful talent.

    Love you, guys.

  • Fantastic song, especially the second half -- absolutely love the buildup and the crescendo. Easy to see why this scored high on the charts. Bill puts his heart and soul into his singing and keyboards on this one, and Dawayne's guitar and background vocals are right on. Robert is great, as usual, and so is the horn section. Great performance by one of the best bands! Looking forward to seeing them in July 08!

  • how were they?? I've got tix for October

  • They were great in Boston in July. The only thing was James Pankow was missing so they had a substitute trombonist who played valiantly, but lacked Pankow's stage showmanship. Pankow stole the show in Boston 07. They played a lot of their classic hits, including Hard Habit, which made the crowd happy. Surprised they didn't play anything from the new SOS album which had been just released prior to the July concert - I was looking forward to hearing at least the title track live. Enjoy October!

  • no... i like cetera :)

  • Who's that playing trumpet? Obviously not Lee.

  • These guys are awesome :)

  • i like this song

  • Great great track from a great great band with a fab singer.

  • Ahh i like Cetera....

  • really? then his name being on the album credits as a back up vocalist beside Joeseph Williams on Fahrenheit and The Seventh One must be a typo.

  • i'm giving the vid 5 stars and favored cause i like it. as for some of the comments i've read here. Scheff came to the group with the fact of being one of the main background vocals for Toto on his resume, and he was recommended for the job by David Foster (producer of Chicago 16,17,and 18) Foster is still a close friend of Cetera as i recall. peace :)

  • kreher..get an ear transplant. you obviously don't have any. great song, great video. scheff on the $

  • this is the worst piece of shit i have ever seen. honestly. it sounds like teenagers singing in one of those "make your own video" booths at six flags.

  • yes..you are!!!!! & you're obviously an overconfident, tone-deaf person...he doesn't sing one bum note...he put's out, as does the whole band..which is more than your friends can say for you, I'll guess...poor fellow you!!!!!

  • You've got class Kevin. Dont worry pimptaddy and whitetrashwonder33 talk so much shit. Those two are idiots who I dont know why bother causing trouble on the chicago clips. Really.

  • yeh...you're using negative vibes

  • Are u guys nuts???....they're both great

  • I'm with you man, its great.

  • Chicago is one of my most favorite bands ever! Jason scheff fill in amazing for peter cetera.

  • I'm with guncontrol on this. I think that Scheff sung this in his own style which is probably why people are hating on this performance so much. He didn't crack at all here this time when other times he performed this song he basically blew it and people still hated it. Of course I prefer Cetera to sing this anytime but get the picture yall, Cetera is gone and this is the only dude that we'll be able to hear this from for the rest of our lives. Get used to it.

  • Excuse me,how can this be Chicago? when clearly it is not them!

  • I don't know why Mr Cetera can't come back to the band. I'm sure they'd love him back

  • Well the official reason, from what I read was, that he suggested time off from touring so they could focus on family but no one wanted to side with him on it. So going solo would help him perform and record on his own schedule. But some people speculate he just was selfish to be famous as just himself. Of course I love Cetera as a singer more than Scheff but I admire both equally. Sorry yall Im a gigantic fan but I have to consider it. It is a possibility.

  • I dont think he is a terrible singer but I agree with you on this one he massacred it!

  • You'll have such feeling if only you compare Jason with Peter.

Get Peter out of your memory and listen to Jason...if only you can do that, then you'll not think he's bad.

Similarly, anyone who tries to sing like Michael Jackson will definitely be a bad singer.

  • I think you hit it right on the head. I love all Chicago music - Scheff or Cetera era. Anyway, if you're a fan of the 70s or early 80s Chicago you really need to keep an open mind. Jason is a good bass player, a nice guy, and a good singer (in my opinion). Forget Peter. He's not coming back.

  • jason is a great singer, pimp you are sooooo wrong.

  • you could'nt be more wrong pimptaddy

  • mah favorite song

  • love this song,,,,,,

  • Scheff can sing...definatley. But he adds his own voice to the songs...he doesnt try to duplicate Cetera. People would hate him even more if he tried to duplicate someone who left a long time ago.

And Champlin tries to hard....dead on. Except on the older hits when he wasnt there....then he has an I dont give a fuck attitude towards his singing. Just watch videos like this and compare it to Make Me sMile...totally different attitude.

  • i have only one comment for those people who said that jason is not good,,,,,,,yah hes not good but terribly has a great voice ok.....

  • I agree

  • I love Peter on this song, but Jason is really great! I really like Jason.. he has brought a lot to the band when Peter walked out..

  • I'm sorry to say. I love Chicago. Not this way... Peter isn't there. and , it's not just Peter. it's all the placements. Everyone is trying Much too hard. it isn't flowing like it use to. Don't take it the wrong way, It is noones fault. Just an opinion. I'm not in your shoes. The synastry is gone on this one.

  • Agree esp Bill who overdid the vocals to the point where it lost its special fel. Sometimes you feel he was trying to overshadow Scheff. I love Bill Champlin BEFORE he joined Chicago - but his records RUNAWAY and SINGLE didnt sell probably because his live performances showed off his obesity too much back then. In Chicago, however, he became a "handsome" slim chap, but over-modulated his singing in live performances. If Bill hae sung them properly, youd be able to see his brilliance. He is.

  • WTF? Why did Walter kiss the microphone? This band sure has some weird MFers in it.

  • I love Jason Scheff!

  • Pathetic. Cetera rules

  • Peter Cetera & Phil Collins have the worlds best voice.

  • i'd say josh groban's got a little on those two, and steve perry too

  • talk about making a complete shite out of a great song.please get rid scheff

  • Shit(e) is too nice of a word. I think Jason is trying to hard. Plain & simple he can't sing the old Cetera songs. Richard Page (Mr. Mister) would have sounded better for Chicago.

  • I agree with you whitetrash33! - never thought about it, but yeah, bassist and vocal sessionist extrodinaire Richard Broken Wings Page would have been an excellent choice!!

  • Sharkim- Page was offered the lead but he turned it down. Don't know why? Maybe money, decision-making? Scheff was cheap & wouldn't make waves.

  • whitetrash33 - Seems a lot of people like Jason very much. I dont get it - maybe he has a great personality and is likeable. But his singing really isnt that great - I know you agree with me. Richard Page is frigging fantastic singer (along w his buddy Steve George who went on the road with Kenny Loggins) - but perhaps he made the wrong decision. Chicago would have Page would have made an awesome team.

  • Scheff & Champlin pair up well for this song, but this particular performance is not as strong as others I've seen.

  • Bill Champlin joined Chicago in 1981, before they released 16. He has had a beard, mustache, long hair and short hair over the years. Is a gifted keyboard player.

  • Give 'em a break! Chicago has done very well after Cetera - much better than EWF without Maurice White, Journey without Steve Perry (now Augeri) and Doobies (after Mike McDonald) even Commodores (without Richie). Chicago had great hits even after Cetera left. Very few bands were ever able to recover after losing such a strong and distinctive lead vocalist. Little River Band got an arguable better singer, but even John Farnham over-sang everything, redenring many tunes simply unlistenable!

  • I'm sorry but, this video is horrible. Bill Champlin and Peter Cetera are the only ones that can sing this song .... not good !!!

  • Amen bro

  • Bill Champlain is singing this song, the orignal guy from the video, he just looks older. I thought Jason Scheff (replacement for Cetera) sounds fine...

  • That Ain't Bill Champlin

  • The guy singing the backing vocals is Bill Champlain, I've been to 4 Chicago Concerts, his hair changes like I change my underwear. Remember, this is 1992, he looks a bit different in 2007. Go to the Cetera Video original Hard Habit to Break, it's the same guy, trust me...

  • You can be ABSOLUTELY sure: this is Bill Champlin. As well as in the other videos of this song (1 with Cetera, 1 with Jason too). It's the same guy, just looks different. By the way, keyboard layers in this song are provided by... James Pankow as you probably can note...

  • the original recording of this song was sung by Cetera right?

  • yes Cetera sang the main vox on this one...with some help from Bill Champlin..releaed in 1984 on album #17

  • thx for the vid, i love Chicago

  • I saw them a few times in the late 80s, when Jason was relatively new to the band. He sounded pretty damn close to Peter live.

  • the funny thing about Jason Scheff is, he originally was hired to help write songs for Peter Cetera's new solo album, but while they were recording, they thought the same thing, he sounded like Cetera, so thats how he ended up in Chicago. luck of the draw, eh?

  • Mix-in DB's guitar work, the additional backing vocals of Robert Lamm and it is an upgrade, too bad we don't see some of this fire today.

  • classic, classy and touchy. My favorite break-up song!

  • All I can say is Dawayne Bailey is truley underrated and not appreciated. Great footage Bills vocals are stronger than I have ever heard.

  • Who is filling in on trumpet?

  • Lee Thornburg, formerly of Tower of Power
