@richardcwood1 .. I also remember when the interstates were first being built. Ike's first reasoning, after his impression of the autobahn, was a faster means for troop convoys to travel.
The pinnacle of American society-the 1950s. Such a fabulous, safe, innocent, enjoyable time, and how deeply sad that we lost it all. Beautiful cars, beautiful scenery in this video. Thanks for sharing.
this was the golden age of automobiles way too many stupid auto manufacturers now with 100 types of trims and 10 engines for each vehicle, i dont want some stupid 2.0 5 cylinder in my chevy malibu, I WANT A SMALL BLOCK
ahh man, i love old 50s american cars, living in england they arent that common to see. vary vary rarely do i ever see one drvie through my town...but sometimes i do and its awesome
cars back then has some class and style, cars and vehicles in general today, are ugly as all hell
i hope so too... though it doesnt seem likely that it would happen again, beacause the god damn japs, came in wth their shitty cars, and spoiled the party
sooo trueee...who knows, theyre so smart maybe they can find a way to build big powerful cars like that that will be good for the economy and air quality...lol...HOPEFULLY!!!!!!!! it sux to see wut cars are made like now, tiny dinky little engines...find me a regular sedan that has a v8...cant find that now but was VERY commom back then...bring em back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So were the only good decades the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s and our current 2010s? I'm just thinking that life is good now in 2011, and has been since the 50s, but life before had WW2, the Depression and generally life didn't have the modern conveniences we have today available since the 50s. So would I be right to say the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and 00s were the 6 only good decades of cars and good living we've had?
@wannabeangel83 Cars are just as colorful and powerful now as they were in the 50s. This isn't 1993 you know. We have nice cars again... open your eyes, or a car magazine.

Not to mention they were NOT automatic, especially until the fiftes, and you had to double clutch every time you shifted a gear!

These care outclass any that are built today. I am tired of seeing the same basic design on every car built today. Blah colors. Silver? Yuck!

The decay of the inner cities didn't happen until the riots of the late sixties, at least in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Those days are long gone thanks to shipping our production base for many jobs overseas thanks to the new "global" economy....

@jordanhall91 i agree!! now look at them all. compare the new impala with the old one..
it will take one of the manufacturers to be bold and go retro but then i think it could catch on

I must say this is a VERY GREAT old video film !! I love the old doku film and the text of thinking of the 50s too !!!
Are the cars in the beginning ; the golden with the white roof or the white with rosa roof all De Sotos ???
They belong to the most beautiful cars of the 50s I have ever seen.
Super good vid !
