Indian Railways, 1st class from Delhi to Kolkata (1 of 2)

never tried 1A, it's too expensive and I'm not a money-rich short-time tourist with loads of usd/euros/etc. to waste... however, I did travel in first class (4-berth cabin however, as I was going alone), just it was non-aircon FC. For it's price (between 2AC and 3AC) it's a good choice, especially as A/C classes, are grossly overpriced, and are really needed only if you travel during the hot (March-May) season... otherwise, I mostly choose sleeper, but if the train has FC, can do too

yes, they serve you food, all inclusive. they don't make the beds but they bring you fresh sheets and pillows.

@ershad85 you would have reached already. But just in case I will tell that you can plan your travel very well in advance. Just login to IRCTC.CO.IN to book your train tickets. I dont know whether this will work in foreign countries. But for sure anywhere in India.

they had the first class earlier and the berths or bunk beds whatever you wanna call them were huge considering the cabin!! and this is a coupe so 2 berths! i used to travel in a full cabin with four berths!(two on another sides and long windows) its was spacious and nice! i loved it!

i would like to suggest foreign tourist to travel only by AC 2 tier its spacious and comfortable! india is a hot country!!

wow...i ve travelled all over India in trains, ranging from passenger class to 1st class.....fastest train to slowest train....reached destination b4 time(2 hr)...nd also delayed(12 hrs)....i miss Indian trains....last time i travelled in 2000..

In the sleeper class you can hear the train sound and stuff, were you able to hear all this in the first class?

this was our last train ride in india after 3.5 months traveling in sleeper classes for days ;-) you're right, sleeper class is the real india feel! but as train buffs, we wanted to experience 1st class at least once...

AC 2 TIER is perfect, it's neither too luxurious, nor too much of Lower-class-feel
