  • well done Dweezil

  • I discovered Zappa's music trough his son 'cause I'm really young and I think is amazing BUT have you seen Dweezil's wife O.o she's freakin' beautiful!!!!!

  • Congratz Dweezil. Your father deserved it. Not often do award give to great artists.

  • All I could think was that, no matter how experimental, outrageous, challenging or confrontational the Zappa reputation is, there is heart and that Dweezil was up there looking at his family and seeing the absence of his beloved father. Made me tear up, thinking: what if that was me? Not the rock sensation (Dweezil) but the son of a good man, a man, a father who wasn't around anymore, a person I loved who I'd never see again.

  • wow, the Zappa family keeps getting better looking with each generation. Just hope one of Dweezil's little hotties will have a little Frankie someday...

  • Dweezil was awesome with Don Johnson, lol

  • Da Weezel is always crying and acting like a retard ////// His dad would be pissed

  • @ToolShedDaddy C'mon man. Have a heart. What if it was your dad?

  • As others have commented, shame Dweezil's acceptance speech was slotted for an un-televised portion of the show. Sad too that the commentator titles Frank as 'guitarist...' 'Composer' more like it, and no title really does justice to Zappa's vision and talent.

  • he must have loved his father and learned nice.... sweet... do not let his music die....

  • Such a travesty that it's pretty much infront of family and friends, like the rest of the music world is too good for this sort of music. This is why the grammys are such a crock and mean absolutely nothing.

  • @Spunkalish

You have no idea do you. Music is for the soul. If that soul happens to be in the family and friends then thats what it has to be. DOnt be an ass.

  • @Spunkalish

Don't be an ass. Its about the music. Are you even a musician? I doubt that you are due to the rudeness of your comment. No one is making you watch grammy awards right?

    dumb ass...

  • Bless him and his father

  • One of the nicest videos Ive seen on you tube. Raw emotion, wonderful too see a son with so much love and respect for his dad. Ive seen FZ play ( and got to meet him at a party in the 80s) and have seen the Dweez play Zappa does Zappa multiple times. He is a great musician and a testament to Franks philosphy on raising well adjusted children.

  • Yes, Milwaukee, Turner Hall was fantastic. The band is fantastic. Dweezil is unbelievable. Thanks for the great time Dweezil (sorry for distracting you while you were signing autographs).

  • My wife and I saw Zappa Plays Zappa last December in Milwaukee - it was a religous experience. Thank YOU Dweezil (and Band) - Frank would be soooo proud.

  • Thank you Dweezil!

  • going to Zappa Plays Zappa tonite for the first time. I can barely even fuckin contain myself... PHUCK YES! All the other songs nominated dont even compare. LONG LIVE ZAPPA!

  • peaches blows away anything metallica ever did...

  • @oeddie99 Everything Frank did blows away anything mellodica ever did. even Ride the Lightbulb!! want metal, i will give you Mustaines cell #!!!!! We all miss you Frank!!! Avant garde genious, musical genious. wise as a Wizard -Frank the Wizard Zappa.

  • Dweezil, as a dad I can honestly say you are an awesome son.

  • Grammy sucks, Zappa deserves a Nobel Prize

  • @ViajeroAstral yeah, it's a nice gesture and dweezil is awesome but zappa would have hated this award being the intelectual outlaw that he was, but kudos to both, Zappa for life!

  • @theachtungtree I think Frank would have said "That's nice. Thanks." but not been overly excited by it.

  • Dweezil - band - Zappa ♥

Thank you - above all other music.

  • @63chiara You obviously know nothing about Frank's music.

  • @passonno and you obviously don't know what a prejudice is: an opinion formed beforehand or without knowledge or examination of something or someone. As you did with me. Bye

  • @63chiara Go see Dweezil and the ZPZ band. Frank's music is so complex and difficult to play that the band should be considered genius for being able to play it so well.

  • @63chiara Then go fuck yourself.

  • xD theres no one on the stage

  • that is a long add

  • Not shown on TV and fucking nobody is in the audience. Fuck the grammys, they give out bullshit awards nowadays. Zappa deserves more then that.

  • I used to slag Dweezil for being on his father's coattails, but seeing him participate in this, and to acknowledge his debt to Frank for this opportunity to play the amazing music of a great composer and personality. I'm sorry for anything I said. Dweezil's come home to where he belongs, and that's great.

  • Frank was the man!

  • The musical industry needs the fun.intelligence of Zappa. The absolute free-thinker.

    Sorry,nobody comes near Zappa

  • Trying to bring Zappa's music to younger audiences ? Mission accomplished. I discovered Zappa through ZPZ and now I can't get enough of it.

  • Attaway, Dweezil - we love you too, man. Saw ZPZ 3 years ago in Boston and you guys were fucking fantastic. Dude, your fans are thankful and your old man would be proud....

  • I do,nt care if this sounds cheesy Franks Music was life changing and hell never be forgoten I feel hes with me at times you know like a Gaurdian spirit don,t know why just do.

  • Watching this makes me feel like part of the Zappa family. I guess we all are in our own certain ways.

FZ, DZ & co, you fill my life with the utmost of awesomeness.

  • This is such a touching clip. It literally brought tears to my eyes. This man is a great musician in his own right, and deserves to be recognized. He's a gentleman, and I wish him the greatest of success. Thank you Dweezil for keeping the spirit of your father alive, and his music in the hearts of those who appreciate it, as well as those who will come to appreciate it tomorrow.

  • What's the rason Ahmet isn't doing Z Plays Z? Saw them a couple nights ago, and was wondering. (Not that they weren't just fine without Ahmet, just wondered why he isn't there).

  • Good to see the Dweez takin' his rightful place @ his father's side. Take the music to the next generation. I'm passin' Frank's music to my son so that he can know what REAL MUSIC is all about!!!

  • 'bout fuckin' time. The Zappas are thee shit, and my friend Nate LOOOOVES Diva. So there.

  • HELL YEA! Well done Dweezil! We love you man! Two years in the basement well spent bro! [Wipes away a tear.]

    We miss you Frank!

Much kudos to Terry for playing on the tour. Punky would be proud! xD

  • MAke a IQ Test Check my Username

  • jesus there are like ten people in the audience

  • These executives have plooked the fuck outta me....love you Dweezil!!!! Frank RIP

  • Tears

  • well at least with Beyonce not there, Dweezil wasn't interupted by Kanye West..

Watching Dweezil made me feel emotional too. I am just a fan, but I grew up with Frank Zappa inspiring me not just to want to play the guitar, but to not be afraid to be my own person...

  • Good for FZ and DZ. And all the great musicians who played with FZ..

DZ - a vehicle came from somewhere out here just to put your Dad down here.

It wasn't round it, didn't have a motor. It was something different. It was a Gibson SG. Congrats.

  • desde argentina.....ZAPPA FOREVER!!! Yesus thinks that you are a genius.....habria que bautizar una montaña con su nombre ZAPPA MOUNTAIN.

  • That was really moving and a fitting tribute to the greatest musician the 20th century produced. Everyone needs to listen to Zappa's music.

  • Of course, the dang room would've been PACKED if it would've been Beyonce. Damn the mainstream sucks. Music is played WITH and BY musical instruments, not frikken sounds played by a PC (or Mac, who cares really?). Peaches is one of my all-time favorite songs.

  • I am so glad that somebody won a grammy for a Frank Zappa song.

  • Yeah, you're right no doubt. FZ got me through the pain and stupidity of high school in the 70's, and I love his music, wit, and charm. I took a lot of crap from people who are of the disco persuasion for listening "to that stuff". FZ never got many "main stream" accolades, while talentless hacks got Grammy s. Saw him twice; the greatest musician in my life time no doubt. I'm glad DZ is keeping his music alive.

  • ...speechless...

too little too late recognition for probably the greatest musician ever, and that through his son. No offense to DZ, there will never be another FZ. Congratulations, but the Grammy s are hardly worthy of Frank, didn't they award one to Milli Vanilli? A Grammy for Frank's music is like a merit badge for Gandhi, the award is paled by the acomplishments.

  • It's not all about recognition. Sometimes it's about intent. There was clearly good, heartfelt intentions here.

No need to shit on the parade, mate. :P

  • Saw FZ in Milwaukee, Zoot Allures.

Saw DZ in MIlwaukee last Saturday night.

    God bless you both!!

  • sad during the Grammys they don't at least read a list on air of all the winners...but Dweezil and the family will share the music love ..saw Zappa plays Zappa this year in LA @ Roxy...just remembering Frank up at Chaffey College, Alta Loma, Ca. back in the early 70's...what a creative man...like father like son..

    sweet Frank..baby snakes forever..RIP

  • Frank's music was ahead of it's time, and so the recognition it deserved decades ago is just being given now. The truly great thing about Frank is that recognition like this wouldn't have mattered to him in the least. I agree though, that he would have been very proud of Dweezil's accomplishments. I'm seeing ZPZ in Calgary August 18th, and i'm so excited to be hearing Frank's music in a live setting...i'll be getting pretty emotional too, I expect.

  • Man, he had me crying more than Michael Jackson's daughter!

    God bless Man.

  • Frank Zappa was one of the few true musical geniuses.

  • Why the hell is the crowd so small? Do I have to ask? That really sucks.

  • My wife and I saw ZPZ at Toad's Place in Richmond last year... what struck me was the diverse age group :18 to 80...incredible ! Dweezil, I tip my hat to you, my brother... I didn't think it was possible, but you're every bit the showman and iconoclast your Dad was...BRAVO !

  • Addio Frank

  • I remember Peaches when I was a toddler,my first favorite track...my Dad and Frank died within 2 weeks of each other too...RIP

  • This is great. And well deserved.

However, The Grammy's are a big joke. Just like the Oscar's. ZPZ's award never made it on television. Only certain "artists" make it to the actual ceremony. Bands like ZPZ and Motörhead, actually had to pick up their award BEFORE the actual Grammy Awards show. Pathetic. ZPZ deserves much more respect than this.

  • You are correct. Grammy/Oscars is a popularity contest. Next they'll have awards for the best DJ. Zappa is and will forever be in a class by himself. Really glad Dweezil is bring F's music to a new generation.

  • I saw Zappa plays Zappa the other night in Detroit, and out of the thousands of live bands I have seen in my life, they were by far the tightest band and most talented individual musicians I have ever seen in one place. Afterward, Dweezil stayed on the stage and signed every piece of paper that every person had. This is great that he is helping Frank's music live on like this. You could tell he was so proud of his Dad and and I am sure his dad would be so proud of him.

  • i love frank zappa

  • beautiful. i cried too. a son to be proud of.

  • Yeah! the power of music & love together.

  • Hej dweezil!

    You rock!!peace!

  • saw FRANK in the 70's what a riot and so much fun.....

  • Way to go Dweezil! The 1st time I saw FZ was I think, 1972 in Grand Rapids Michigan for $3.50.

I think it is so cool that Dweezil is keeping the music alive. God Bless you Dweezil.

  • Very touching indeed. I wept like a little boy watching this... Peaches en Regalia is one of my favourite FZ songs, and when I saw ZPZ play it in Stockholm on June 8th, it was nothing short of amazing! And to see this clip knowing the story behind the song, makes it a great moment i music history. I have tremendous respect for Dweezil for spreading this music in such a skillful and joyous way! Can´t wait ´til next time they come around...

  • This is so touching! Dweezil seems to be a very nice man. Thank god Zappa's music still lives on.

  • His Dad would be Proud. He is putting on the Eyebrows on it. :)

  • The guy sitting to the left in the public, is that Ahmet?

  • ahmet is bald so far i know, so i don't think so.

  • Saw them today. It was amazing. Glad he organized Zappa plays Zappa. And they truly deserve that grammy. I actually cried a little while watching this.

  • Saw them today, outstanding... :)

  • Indeed :)

  • thank god for zappa plays zappa i never got to see frank play live and from what i see these guys he got for these tours just slam.i always thought dweezil was a good player when i saw him live i knew he was a GREAT player.i hope he keeps going with these

  • Zappa's music never grows old. And Dweezil is one apple who didn't fall very far from the tree. Great that the Zappas are getting more much-deserved formal recognition.

Can't help thinking that the creative professions have been transformed into pseudo-professions in order to meet the needs of the folks who have stolen them for themselves...well-funded, privileged but not usually very SWIFT TO BEHOLD nominally talented elite kids with winning smiles.

Wish I were wrong about that.

  • finally made justice to ZAPPA FAMILY...!

  • Ouch, how come all these empty seats? Isn't it supposed to be THE big music award ceremony??

  • That wasn't the actual ceremony, just for the awards they don't deem to be "COOL" and any music that makes you think isn't cool to the grammy people.

  • Sad as hell.

    Thanx for the answer bro.

  • so sad and depressing. why is that art of music not a thing for a crowd any more?

  • I loved frank too!

  • That so brought a tear to my eye! Dweezil continues to make Frank proud! What an awesome moment!!

  • FZ would be very proud,Fz ws buried in an empty plot of grass /w out a headstone in a cemetery in CA,

FZ hated Warner Bros corporate slugs who have wreaked havok here on YTube muting your video if it has a slither of one of "their' contracted artists on it.

    Go Dweezil :)

  • I made a video with"why does it hurt when i pee?" and it got disabled by WMG. It was actually a really funny video.

  • So glad Metallica didn't get it. Take that Lars.

  • @2ubester2 Hahahaha i was thinking the exact same thing!

  • I really don't think that those stupid awards mean anything to anyone who actually knows music. To quote Frank "if you don't get it..You weren't supposed to."

  • man , this video really shows you what Real music can mean to people. Thank you Frank, wherever you are!

  • just saw zappa plays zappa in redding, ca- dweezil is an amazing person as well as performer and seemed very humbled by his fathers gift of talent.

  • THAT is what you call a beautiful moment. Well done D !!

  • I first saw Frank and the Mothers in Toronto in 1968 and then every show he did in the area subsequently as well as a notable Grand Wazoo outing in Montreal.

I have also attended all four local ZPZ gigs including the last two on back to back evenings this past October, where during more than six total hours of music, they performed only one song - Willie the Pimp - twice.

Dweezil and the new band are most worthy keepers of the Zappa flame, eh?

Gotta mop the tears from my keyboard now.

    s

  • You were at the Blender Halloween? Man it was a great show. I loved every minute of it. Place was so small Dweezils gutar glare was in my eye the whole night. Great concert

  • I'm very happy to see that Dweezil got the award.

I saw Dweezil when he was here two years ago and played at the icestadium here in Stockholm, Sweden. The icestadium was also the place where I saw his father Frank, play live for the first time back in the late 70's.

You can really feel Frank's Spirit in the room at Dweezil's koncerts, and that makes me happy because I love Franks Music all the way since my teenage years in the 70's when my longtime friend Mikael, got me hooked on frank Zappa

  • That's truly a lovely thing.

Both "Zappas" are great guitarists- and I'm not saying that to only be nice, I don't have much time for Frank's music, but I know he was a very good guitarist who very much stood out as one of the few people on earth that when you hear them play, you know who they are.

    Yes -

  • thank you very much

  • All the Zappa's Rock. From Moon on Valley Girl when I was a kid to going and seeing Ahmed and Dweezil in Z as well as the plethora of thought provoking guitar work and commentary that Frank brought to the table. Amazing

  • Dweezil, I've been listening to Franks music for 40 years ... and looking forward to seeing ZPZ this Summer in Birmingham ... thanks for keeping his music alive ... well deserved award!

  • I'm so Thankful this should of happened a long time ago.

My Love to the ZAPPA FAMILY..

Your father is a GRATE SPIRIT....

    Wage Peace

  • To all 12 people in the audience as well..

  • I was wondering where everyone was like........

  • Frank would be proud, not of the grammy of course.

  • that must have been really hard for dweezil, very touching. can't wait to see them this summer in europe.

  • Amazing congrats Dweezil.

  • this acceptance steals my heart, dweezil you really impress me, thank you for showing all your amazing efforts, as you are totally just about as cool as your dad.
