  • Love this. It's true as well. "All of us are immigrants." Thank you America for Steve Earl...and the wire!

  • I'm proud to be an immigrant...aren't you @LordWellington15? Great song, Steve Earle rocks...

  • @LordWellington15 , ya racist idiot. The man after who you name youself was an Irishman who so desperately wanted to embrace the upper class English. He denied his Irishness by stating that "if a man be born in a stable does that make him a horse?". So, your hero was both a nag and a boot.If your racist views are so important to you why not keep them to yourself and your fascist buddies instead of staining this beautiful heartfelt song with your vile bile?

  • @martcarey Oh boy another leftist reject who has no idea what he is on about. You know nothing about the Duke of Wellington, what he stood for or what he did. I am disgusted that people such as yourself think so highly of themselves, and bieleve that they are so smart, when really you are an idiot. I am not going to take the time to explain the Duke of Wellington to you because your inadequete brain size could not comprehend the information. Good bye.

  • @LordWellington15 , absolutely delighted be be a leftist reject, to be accepted by such an abhorent racist such as yourself, hiding behind your faded empire and your butchers apron would be , to say the least, slightly upsetting. As for knowing nothing about the Duke of Wellington, you are totally incorrect, I visit it about 3 or 4 times a week, as it is my local pub! Oh, yes, and..learn to spell.

  • apparently 7 people are close minded tools with no appreciation for great song writing ;p

  • I am calling my son Steve, and i hope he likes him as much as i do

  • i love playing air mandolin to this song

  • @ilovewinbutler ....play the right air instrument..it's a bouzouki !!!

  • @martcarey

Maybe he/she only has an air mandolin.

  • Yea that is terrific

  • Great song.

  • @slimrichey1 Steve Earle: never sold out, never will. This was written in response to CNN bigot-in-chief Lou Lobbs. And if yer hung up on Copperhead Road, you prolly don't know SE's music anyway. Great song... but just one of soooo many.

  • This is Great!

Not only does Allison look beautiful in Motherhood, She's beautiful in New York!

And the Song's Pretty Good Too Steve ; \

     'We Are All Immigrants"

  • These Lyrics are political! It is about the music and lyrics. I bet Steve would be pleased to know he is the musical spokesman for immigrants who are being targeted by right wing-nuts. Check out Cuentame. When one nationality is being persecuted it is a problem for all of us. As a great, great.great ...granddaughter of British immigrants in the 1600's I feel we have a responsibility to defend injustice...through speaking up or music, which is just another voice.

  • guitar song rules too mo fo!

  • Simply beautiful.........

  • There is a lesson here that I like.

    Ron

  • Now if only Arizona would wake up and realize that we are ALL immigrants from somewhere else, and for some, they didn't cross the border; the border crossed them.

  • @medicvet

Amen to that. If you're not Native American--you might be an immigrant. Thank you Jeff Foxworthy. TheFaergen

  • hollllly crap this song was on a test i took today. that is so weird!!!

  • Thank you so much for again making this wonderful clip availible to Australians. Loved the last tour and hope to see Justin at Easter. Thanks for the inspiration. Every day.

  • nice ;)

  • ...every one is everyone!

  • Thanks Steve.

  • We are all immigrants ! Ain't that the stone cold truth....... I am a citizen of the world . we all are.... .tear down the f@*king walls !

  • Well, yeah, of course. Except for the Dutch, and their stupid shoes.

  • we only put on those shoes to kick the skull in from dumb stupid ignorant assholes like you.

  • COOL. Thanks. Is this one on the Jereselum Album?

  • ive heard it said that steve earle is the new springsteen....IMO "The Boss" cant touch Steve Earle

  • Hell, I think he's more like the North American Version of Peter Gabriel. I mean, without all the fancy stuff. :>

    Earle rocks and rolls.

  • you know, i'm sorry i've had friends tell me that much of the country is made op of people like you all... i just never could believe it...i'm embarrassed

  • wow america, what a country

  • I love this song. It is what America is all about. Five*****

  • let me say this, the song is awsome but not this version, listen to the live version of this song, way better

  • Comment removed

  • mistiebanana, just from your few words,i can tell your probably taking a remedial course.good luck to you.

  • Steve's still got it! Great song! Only Native Americans can "claim" this land as their own, but their

philosophy is that we belong to the earth and not the other way around....We all need to just get over it.

If all we have going for us as an identity is our race, we're sunk. Color is not content. Ask a blind person if race is important.

  • this song is so saying that there is no reason to be W.P because none of us are staight race

  • It's useful to remember that nearly all of our ancestors are or were immigrants. My earliest ancestor arrived on these shores more than 250 years before Ellis Island existed.

  • The point is, countries fall wen others come in.

  • wow, what kind of shit have you been eating?greedy, sorry s.o.b.

  • Comment removed

  • as always his work is outstanding

  • how is that garbage? That was beautiful

  • i agree with the garbage thing

  • beautiful song. I've admired steve earles music since the 80's.

  • Happy Birthday UNITED STATES!!

    07-04-2009!! -TEXAS, U.S.A

  • this song is awesome i have to sing it

  • Awesome song!!!

I am playing in music class. In fact we have 2 perform 2morrow.

My mom fell in love with this song when I played it 4 her

  • I came here for the MUSIC to hear this great song.

So tdal007 shut the hell up and listen to the beautiful music.

    Man...

Opinions are like as*holes....everyone has one.'

I ADORE YouTube, but reading the comments people post just piss me off.....you all really need to shut up and get a life. Music is a gift....so shut up and enjoy the music.

    That goes for me too......

    LOL

  • well, there are cds and earphones.and you don't have to read the comments.

  • "The Internet has always had loud dumb people, but I've never seen anything quite as bad as [some] people who comment on Youtube videos." --Randall Munroe

  • whatever. As I said, opinions are like assholes, everyone has one.

  • If you guys want to talk politics, go get your own BLOG. THAT was what i was talking about. This is about THE MUSIC.

  • @debmassey

And the lyrics are certainly part of the music. The politics are inescapable and I think Steve Earle would agree with me completely on that one.

  • And it will only change when we get rid of social security and people will need their kids to take care of them. Right now we have a seperation of generations which is easier than having a family.

  • Agreed. As the country becomes more educated and affluent they will less children. Europe and America have an average age of 40 and getting higher unless we attract young people from other countries or put a value on children in our country and encourage and provide for such.

  • Unfortunately most people don't want to hear the truth. The truth is we are a people who are not reproducing and the young people are all immigrants. Mexico, India, China have the young people. Americans and Europeans have not reproduced and it is too late. To keep their economies going they need immigrants more than ever to rebuild the decaying cities and infrastructure. America is or will be Mexico where we will get most of our young people. Learn spanish.

  • America, Europe, and all other post industrial societies have a decline in birth rates due to the availability of education. Has nothing to do with reproducing, it will happen to all civilizations eventually. China and India are headed there as well.

  • This is the stupidest thing I have heard in a long, long time.

  • so, everybody,start a fucking!!!

  • I knew there was a solution. I am always amazed that people read this stuff. (I guess I did) What everyone has to realize(or not) is everything that is said is both right and wrong. And how you interpret it adds to the complexity.

  • a great writerwho will probably only be remeembered for his song galway girl featured in ps i love you

  • really?

  • He had numerous songs in Talladega Nights

  • I live in a city of immigrants: Orlando, FL. It sucks! Not as glamorous of a city as you would think, from what you see on TV, etc with Disney World and everything here.

  • This song, the lyrics, plus the excellent video evokes a lot of strong emotions in this viewer...5 *****

  • Steve Earle is a master singer songwriter who unfortunately will probably only be appreciated after he's gone...

  • This is great! Who cares if it's not copperhead road or guitar town? I appreciate it for being a GOOD SONG!

  • im with you !!

  • This is a great sounding song, with a great message!.......does'nt even register on the "Suck" scale.

  • Steve Earle like many folk singers spreads peace love and harmony to all people in this world. I love this song. It's one of the best I've heard him do in his carrer.

  • You're missing it frog. Steve's never been about rock, country, blues, folk or even blue grass... he's always written what he sees, hears and lives! It's called the TRUTH and that's why he's a legend on another level from most. He's not as mainstream as Willie Nelson or Bob Dylan because he's even more truthful and hard than they were.

  • one of my favs they play this song on wxpn 88 5 out philly great station keep radio free support your local commerical free radio

  • true that, support local, fuck up the commercial! much respect from philly as well! 100.3 is a great station too. check it out!

  • Is that a Bozouki he's playing? It sounds like a baritone mandolin -if such a thing exists.

  • Octave Mandolin Exact same tuning, just one whole octave lower. Generally a rhythm instrument. Fatter wires, Longer chord stretches. Fun to play.

  • Yes it is a bouzouki. When I saw him play this song live he joked afterwards:

In case youre wondering, this instrument is called a bouzouki everywhere except airport security. There its a banjo or something.

  • Love this one. Thanks for posting.

  • This is superb! Just love Steve's style and musical interpretation. Thanks for posting.

  • I went to the Lexington show. This old hippee had a great time. Finally got to meet Steve back stage after the show.Allison too. I've been listening for twenty plus years,I'll listen for another twenty if Steve still singing and writing.

  • Beautiful song!!! 5/5

  • This song makes me so glad that Steve got himself cleaned up. He could have easily checked out early like so many others.

  • Important message. We all come from somewhere. Love Steve's longevity . . . long way from Copperhead Road. Keep well, Steve. Keep leaving us thinking.

  • This song always reminds me of my trip to nyc, i love it

  • where's that?

  • This is great. He's coming to my town this fall - right before the election. Yay.

  • Man I love this song, I got my teacher to play this song during class, we were talking segragation....

  • steve is a man who has been and done it and is sharing what a lot of us need to learn

  • I absolutely love this guy. Cant wait till July 22 in Lexington to see Allison and him together!!!!

  • Yippee ya old hippee - Give Peace a chance!!!

  • Accepting* even. lol

  • Thanks jmsazboy, I appreciate it. And to the rest of you calling each other idiots and bitches...Doesnt that kind of seem ironic considering this song is obviously about a peace?...about excepting mother fuckers the way they are...Don't make me make a Youtube blog about all you childish people spreading hate, I'll do it, I dont want to, but I will! lol

  • Anyone know what year this is from?

  • Ladykiller, I think this is his most recent CD

  • Yeah alright, you just one of those weak punk ass HATERZ talking shit on the internet like a chicken-shit. Can't even answer the question. Stop hiding behind your computer or be a man and give me your address. If you were to step in my face and talk all that shit to me in person....

  • The instrument is either a tambura or a bouzouki. I got a lot of associates and friends from Queens, Bronx, and Brooklyn and according to them NYC is not all about holding hands and embracing different kinds of ethnic groups the way Steve depicts it in the video. It's about survival. I guess "Washington Squere Serenade" is a personal thing for Steve. Not interested in buying the cd because I could not imagine going back to the ghetto, but I'm still a huge fan of Steve Earle.

  • You're an i-d-i-o-t.

  • To reiterate: You are, clearly, an idiot.... and a bit snippy, too. Did you catch that guy? Y'know-- the one who pissed on your cornflakes this morning?

  • Shaddup and quit whining, ya pussy!

  • hey,nothing like wishing,sing for a better world.we all do it.can't hurt.

  • what instrument is he playing?

  • Happy May Day ... thanks for a great song.

  • Immigrant is such a meaningless word. Everyone in the world is an immigrant from somewhere.

  • Excellent CD.... Washington Square Serenade !!!

  • Steve Earle is a man how will say what he means when he feels it. He will not say anything just to please a crowd or to make money, just look at his past. I put this man up there with the truth and talent of Woody Guthrie.

  • Happy, sunny music that put a smile in your heart!

  • Wow...we have witnessed a treasure guys....

    Great song!

  • wow, maybe he should take a break from protesting and try a treadmill.

  • fuck you

  • luverrly!

  • mabye he is right though maybe we are all immigrants in one way or another

  • great song. hey, were you all born here???

    your parents??? your grandparents???

    how bout your great grandparents????

    enough said.

  • AS bad as it is, ignorance is probably one of the most amusing traits a person can have. I read comments from people like this and half of me is ashamed at my fellow man, and the other half of me is just laughing at him. :)

  • Steve Earle is the man! Loving this new stuff!

  • I am 64 yrs old and generally I find music videos to be too frantic. However, this Immigrants video is the best I have ever seen. PS My grandfather, from Budapest, moved to New York and learned English as his THIRD language. God bless you all.

  • Nice commentary on our times, now that Steve lives in NY, he has a full view of what he is singing about..Great song, nice harmonies, super video...one of the best songwriters of today...

  • your music touch deeply a very imporant and critical social problem

  • Steve gracias por tu canciones te queremos y respetamos.

steve thanks for your songs, we love you and respect you.

  • i still dont know how to take this. as nice and happy or racially offensive and discrimative lol funny cause dont they say all others are immigrants? lol

  • don't be so thin skinned.what did paul mccartney and michael jackson mean in ebony and ivory?three dog night in black and white?they're just ditties to make a buck, not everything is racially meaningfull.just tap your toe and relax.

  • oh i know i just think it makes the song funny when u think of that lol

  • This isnt commercial like mj and pm, I dont think this was asmuch to make a buck as thoose.

  • bro,if you sing for a living on stage or on a street corner, you gotta pay the rent.but sure it's something heartfelf and we both like it.

  • The lyrics are "all of us are immigrants"

  • That was supposed to be a response to har482000, but it didn't go in the right place. Oops

  • yeah i know i jsut think its funny to think of it like that then it looks like hes calling out... idk nevermind lol

  • I just finished watching this vid on GAC (Great American Country) and I just gotta say it...

IN YOUR FACE NASHVILLE!!! You thought this guy would've dissapeared off the face of the music-world, but he still hasn't. Now you have to play his music videos. In the words of Bob Dylan, "How does it feel?"

  • Regular programming or Edge of Country? That show usually shows bands that Nashville pushes aside to play there over pollished crap. It's the only show I watch on there.

  • Nashville is a shell of its former self!

I don't know what the hell happend to Country music....it sure isn't what I grew up with.

  • Well maybe you never considered that someone who was a country artist 20 years ago has moved on. If you only listen to "country music" the Steve Earle isn't the artist for you. He's grown unlike yourself. I think it's a fine song.

  • I like this song more, every time I hear it.

  • Great Song & Album, Cant wait to see him live in San Fransisco in March.

  • Watched him perform this last night on Later with Jules Holland....Great. Thanks for posting New West Records.

  • Steve, gracias por tus canciones. Estamos tan necesidados de poesía...

  • I was flipping channels a few nights ago and accidently stopped on this video and caught the last half. What beautiful harmonies. The music is wonderful. I like the lyrics and the meaning of the song, but the sound, the harmonies of the two girls, just wondrous.

  • IT DOESN'T GET ANY BETTER

  • Steve Earle looks really like Joe Pantoliano in this video.

  • Thank you Steve Earle just for being.

  • I think Lou Dobbs should see this video. Mal parido!!

  • Check him out on sirius channel 63 outlaw country. he has a show on there on sat&sun. he tells alot stuff on there.

  • Projecting?

  • Earle never fails to amaze me with each album ('The Mountain' was the only exception). I have all of his stuff and I hate it when people think Steve has only two songs...

  • It's interesting, The Mountain is the album that really got me into his music. I really like all his stuff, but I think The Mountain was a high point in his career.

  • The world could use a little more hand holding, UNICEF poster or not.

Besides, Steve is grooving on the amazing cultural mixture all around him now that he's living in NYC. Hey, ever been to NYC?

  • Great song. Bittersweet images. Pity the poor immigrant.

  • I've been an immigrant of sorts a few times, and it can be a very interesting experience, full of excitement and wonder; give 'em a break, yes; but pity, perhaps not so much.

  • Why are we so stingy with people who need our help?

Remember: We'll each receive as much compassion as we show to our fellow human.

  • believe that all the way to the poor house.

  • Good song Earle

  • Awesome song, Awesome message; Steve Earle rocks.

  • Thanks New West! Great Video from the Hardcore Troubadour!

  • Best song I have ever heard about NYC. Best album of the year hands down in my humble opinion. Steve has always been one of my favorite performers and this video as well as his entire new album is just remarkable.

  • Cool video and i like the way the production focusses on Allison Moorer on the backing vocals and pretty much ignores the other backing vocalist!

  • Too much "auto tuning" on the backup vocals. A real blight that's ruining records these days...sounds like a keyboard instead of vocals! Otherwise great tune!!

  • Thats 100% true. If you see the DVD that comes with this album, they both sing this live and the backing vocals are way off the mark.

  • AMAZING VIDEO STEVE YOUR ROCK cant wait to come see ya in toronto
