  • Fantastic.... Thank you thank you thank you.....

  • i love this recording - thank you

  • lol this was before he was 20 damm watta fucking beast

  • Such breathtaking intensity. Truly Heifetz, completely unparalleled.

  • this sounds so much like the recording of Ginette Neveu.... just very subtle differences. lol this is Amazing. ughhh im torn intwo, i love both Neveu and Heifetz....

  • Haven't heard this in years--and so, am remarkably re-impressed with this intense yet soulful performance. Reiner & Heifetz always worked so well together.

Since Heifetz is NOT as closely miked on this recording as he usually is, it gives the listener more of an idea of how he REALLY sounded sitting in the audience.

  • Today when they makes recording they do it like 10 times and if possible cut together the best parts if possible.

I think this one is made in the firth attempt.

  • really?

  • @GrassEating I think if you listen more carefully, you can hear some of the edits.

  • Best violinist ever. Long live Heifetz!

  • This is divine!!! Thanks for sharing.

  • This is a stupendous performance--the only other recording I have heard where it is played with such a fiery entrance and with such energy is the Ossy Renardy recording--the sound it not quite as good since it was one of the first 331/3

  • @OriginalMoonbeam Heifetz/Koussevitzky-BSO is much better.

  • Some of the phrasing in this is untouched by and even Oistrakh! That's not usually the case.

  • Wow! Speechless..

  • The legendary recording of Heifetz with Fritz Reiner and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra... thanks for this upload.

  • @sab3156 The 1939 recording of Heifetz with Koussevitzky kills this.

  • @SatchmoSings Kouss is the boss!

  • @dcco76 Heifetz's playing on both recordings is superb; the difference is in the orchestral part.

Reiner is too brisk and terse; he completely fails to capture anything even remotely connected to Brahm's true essence let alone intent; Koussevitzky does and he does it as masterfully as Heiftez's handling of the solo part.

  • @dcco76 02 The well known (but not necessarily well-liked) music critic of the Chicago Tribune, Claudia Cassidy wrote in the liner notes of the Heifetz-Reiner collaboration, "So, it can be done this way, too."

No it can't, ASSHOLE; not by a long shot!

    Kouss is the boss!
