  • @alanheath So...quite a considerable distance ha ha.Lookks like a nice place to camp anyway.

  • @llewesa100 Brilliant location, wonderful time there!

  • Nice video. It's good to see new places.

  • Ahhh...you are killing me ! ;-)))

This is the trips I would LOVE to do !

As you are mentioning the crash on March 5, 1945....

this area was a part of the famous Kurland Pocket that was defended by Waffen SS ( German and many Baltic soldiers), the Wehrmacht and Luftwaffe till the end of the war.

Only surrendered after VE day...took out a lot of the Red Army before.

    Thanks for posting !

  • @rampking1 The Kurland pocket was in Latvia and contained the remnants of those troops which previously had been beseiging Leningrad.

This was part of the 'Baltic platform'. In February 1945 the Soviets reached the Oder river and crossed it in front of Berlin (Seelow Heights position). This was a large bulge to the west, this part of Pomerania was still held by the Germans but with the Soviets pressing hard from the south.

  • @alanheath Thanks...I thought you were further east. Perhaps I was thinking of another one of your films.

This Baltic platform I believe Hitler thought would come to Berlin's rescue at the end.

Thanks for the additional info as well.

  • @rampking1 I keep meaning to travel up the Baltic States to Estonia but it is going to have to be in the summer and it won't be this one!

  • @rampking1 I have just stuck up a film on this air base!

  • The Do24 crashed on 5 March 1945 and not 5 May as I state in this video!
