I'm trying to find an interview of Wong Kar Wai where he talked about this scene and what he said to Pin Bing Lee (DP). Does anyone have the link or article? I remember seeing it online, but I have scourging the internet with no luck now! Thanks in advance!
When somebody has a secret he can only tell it to the stones, to somehting who´s higher than ourselves. That´s only way to keep a secret. This scene made over me so big impression years ago. I love this movie.
If u visit the very spot where this scene was shot at Angkor Wat, u will understand why it was chosen. It is the very cynosure where u can disclose all your pent up emotions and darkest secrets and longings of your heart. That sublime touch marks the closure of this marvellous movie for me - sounding eternity with an echo of unrequited love!
Dear Chris, PLEASE: which spot is that!? I have 2 days left in Angkor and I so much want to see the magic spot where this scene, which I admire and love as much as you, was shot, Is it at the back of Angkor Wat? Please let me know! Many thanks, M
Thank you for posting this video. I can't help but shed tears when I see this ending. This isn't the ending I wished for, but nevertheless it well done-the acting and music complement each other. It's no surprise Tony Leung won Best Male Performance at Cannes International Film Festival for his role in this film.

I'm at Angkor Wat and found the exact spot where he whispers into the hole. Best love film ever.

I love what a different tone this final scene has with the rest of the entire film, yet it's absolutely perfect.
Makes me cry so hard every time I see it in its context. My favorite ending to a movie ever
