I thought it was the U.S citizens who started this social media snowball ? Several of them were middle eastern descendants or had family living so they felt very personal about it. They made the twitter/tumblr accounts ranting about how Gaddfi is an evil dictator.

the maker of this video says 'this is what tripoli really looked like on feb 17'. Why should we trust him just because he showed us a few videos of gaddafi supporters, but should NOT trust the media, when they have shown hundreds of videos of rebels?

Lets not forget that in Egypt and Syria there were several pro-government protests. This does not suggest that the entire city supported the leader.
