  • Why? What is wrong with the costumes for the opera that Bellini would have envisaged - Druid Priestess and occupying Roman. I suppose we'll get the rubbish about making it "relevant" but these proposals are no more relevant than Romans and Druids. I appreciate the costume designer is stuck with whatever the Director decides needs to be done to make the story clearer to us numpties but I resent it.

  • @redvalentine68 As much as the costumes and set were important to Bellini’s original production, the Christopher Alden production is an interpretation of Norma, one where the costumes and set all have a key role to play in bringing the story to life. Whilst the vision is mainly that of the director, the set and costume designers both have an instrumental role in influencing and constructing the world in which the singers will perform the opera.
