Thank you for this, it evokes all the feelings of a young man [the young man I once was] with an unatainable love Truly beautiful. There is no accounting for taste, I found Elvis's version truly dreadful and I am an Elvis fan. Each to his own etc .Rods version is the best for me personally.
Dylan recorded this version live in 1963, but it appeared only on LP in 1971 in a greatest hits package. In that same year Rod Stewart published his LP Every Picture. I don't know which LP hit the stores first. Every picture was my first LP, I was 12 then, and thanks to it I discovered Dylan. A great song on a very good album, everything Stewart recorded afterwards remained in the shadow of this LP. Newfoundland looks great!
Just discovered the amazing album where this song appears. My personal favorite version of this song. The Faces are playing the music I assume. Just great.
Sandy Denny (ex Fairport Convention ) is a version I grew up with ( on youtube ). Agreed though that Dylan has to be regarded as the Godfather of modern prose and Music. Not saying he's the best, but a masive inspiration for other's.
However...it's Judy Collins for me each time...but this gets a place in my playlists for sure!!! Have a nice weekend Lord F... hope it's all 'happy nappies and dribbles'. (Fancy bumping into you this night!!; D)
Thanks too for this upbeat version of a poem in song 'Haakonw123'
I was listening to a Rod Stewart album on Vinyl the first time I heard this song, just a few days ago... IT is an extraordinary song. did Rod write it, or is it his version?

@wx5767 it's a cover of a Bob Dylan song, but I think it is a good version.

@wx5767 Elvis Presley has a better version. Bob Dylan has said that Elvis sings it how it should be sung
