  • good job and awesome song ^^

  • Johnny was and still is the man. Pass me a tissue please.

  • Thumbs up if you heard this at the start of The Crazies (remake).

  • beutiful song

  • I prefer the Vera Lynne version of the song, because it has so much of our history attached to it, and i think it sounds better, not that this one doesnt sound good because it does, i really like this version

  • we ll meet again jr until then brother

  • And we miss you so, Johnny C. I know that you are with my dad teaching him what good music is.

  • The Native American art is absolutely amazing!

  • I love this song.

  • While the Vera Lynn version is made for soldiers who'll come home one day, Cash his old voice gives 'we'll meet again' the 'we'll see eachother in heaven' meaning

  • This is heart felt version and very good.

However I'm sorry the vera Lynn version is iconic and basically the living embodiment of the Blitz Spirit when Britain stood alone against tyranny!

Every year the veterans of britain sing this so I'm sorry as good as this is it does not compare.

I still enjoyed it thoroughly though

  • Stood "alone" ?

  • After the French were defeated Britain stood alone. Russia had an alliance with Germany.

My Granddad used to say no one who was not alive then will ever understand. The Germans were evil we were getting bombed day and night and we expected to lose. Then miracle of miracles Hitler went mad and attacked Russia and then the Japs attacked America

The Vera Lynn version is a very poignant song for the entire nation as a result. I like this version but will never compete due to the history

  • @919andy

well in fact the v4 rockets werent very effective. it was only for destroying the moral. just like the british bomber attacking german cities not for their strategic value, but to get as much as possible civilians killed. btw: whats the matter to post that under a beautiful song of johnny cash?

  • The reason I mentioned the war as it is so symbolic for the nation. For people of my Grandads generation the Vera Lyn version is more than a song.

The V2 rockets were the end of the war the ceasless bombing killed many of his friends. He hasted certain flowers as they grew on the bomb sites. This song embodied all of that to him. As I said more than a song.

I like this version a lot but I just dont think its as good as the original due to its connection with my own family and history

  • well on both sides were many friends and relatives lost. thats why we should all remember this times and do whatever it takes to prevent, that there is ever war again.

  • @Lain4182I think that the 919andy reply just about sums it up. We, the British, had help internally from Poles, Canadians, even some Americans, who came to this country to fight Hitler. Other nationalities also came here, not just those mentioned. The 'Battle of Britain', invention of radar, these were the turning points. Goerring couldn't control the skies with the German Luftwaffe so a sea invasion was put on hold. Then Hitler made a huge mistake & turned on an ally, Russia.

  • Rock on Johnny, R.I.P. We love you from Grove City, Ohio

  • this is such a sweet tribute for your dad.

  • Sorry squirrelnutcased, i beg to differ, Vera Lynn used to sing this whilst visiting WW2 soldiers, WW2 was well over by 1954

  • Words & Music by Ross Parker & Hughie Charles Recorded by Vera Lynn, 1939 Recorded by Benny Goodman, 1942

  • Great song! R.I.P. Johnny! WE love you from Grove City OHIo!

  • Hmm. Id rather Vera Lynn's.

  • It's in part the up loaders mistake as he should have said original by Dame Vera Lynn and sung by Johnny Cash instead of by Johnny Cash.

  • you could be right mel but i would like to say to all the other listaners to this song . i feel sorry for the guy who died and they put this tune up for him may he rest in peice and always be rememberd and if i coused any ofence i apoligise to the family and any body who may have got ofended RIP

  • very nice

  • I perform this as a medoly with happy trails. The lyrics and melodies fit very nicely. Danny Freeze

  • Is it just me or does the melody have similarity with the song "maybe" from The Ink Spots?

  • This is really a cover of the Ink Spots version, it has the same intro notes and has the slowed down part which the deep-voiced guy does. Still pretty good, though I don't think there's yet been a cover which tops the original Vera Lynn.

  • its not a cover from any thing except dame vera lyne not ink spots who ever they are its all her and its very english not american its ours and its staying that way the tune too

  • Very well said Dean, couldnt have put that better myself. Dame Vera Lynn did the original. As you said Dean, it's ours and it's staying that way

  • Benny Goodman actually did it in 1942 while Vera Lynn did it in 1954.

i really like johnny cash's version

    its really touching.

it as if he knew he would be passing soon and he would meet us all in heaven =]

  • I know that Vera Lynn did the original, I was saying this is more similar to the Ink Spots version than it is to the original.

  • I'm glad it has meaning for you. I just made for my Dad who pasted last Dec. I am shocked that it's had so many views. It's just one that everyone can relate to. Blessings.RJ

  • I lost my dad on Oct.2003 (brain cancer) , and this song reminds me of him, too. Greetings..and life goes on .

  • This song 1st became popular during World War 2 in 1940 in England. So many husbands, sons and fathers going off to uncertain futures. It kept many folks optimistic during those day.

I want to thank you and all your family for your family's sacrifice.

  • that was really great.
