Hey awesome job on that!! I do have to agree with djrclarinete11 though, its impossible to that on a clarinet. One question...the Youtube symphony orchestra wants clarinets to play this in order to audition. Where exactly in the video is Measure G? Let me know. Good luck playing!
Yes! I am wondering where Measure G is too. I have the violin version of this, and there are no letters to mark where the measure breaks are. It's no big deal though, but It'd be nice to know.
I agree that tempo is nearly impossible on clarinet tongue which is quite unfortunate but at the same time as impressive as this is the song loses some of it's best qualities when played this fast. However very impressive, major kudos to you.
You're really good! I needed to find a solo to play and I was considering this one but after finding out how fast it is I think I might have to find something else. Great job though!
my god why that fast? im playing that song right now, but i dont think its all that important to play it extremely fast. but watever suits the musician.
oh and wat did you put on you head joint? does it tell you on your computer which notes you got wrong or something?
3rd octave: i can't follow the music - finger an tongue have different tempos. this is an scherzo and not a fight of dinosaures. Sounds more like a maschine gun - a stuttering maschine gun. The had of your fluts is nice. Carbon or wood?
Great technique, but WAY too fast. No orchestra would ever take this tempo because the clarinets have to tongue at the same speed. It's not possible for them.
check out James Galway's rendition/arrangement of this piece for solo flute and orchestra. There's a tonguing passage for two clarinets and it's about this tempo, a bit faster I guess.
(you might want to think twice about making sweeping statements like, no orch would ever take this tempo...)
Haha. Okay, well then I, personally, have never seen/heard an orchestra take this tempo. While I wouldn't advise against practicing at this speed(among others)for audition purposes, standard seems to be 80-88, for means of technique and style. It seems to lose...something...if it's played much faster.
I don't doubt Galway can play it this fast, as he does with the Bach Badinerie, but so often in those cases the orchestra has trouble keeping up.
Slower, paced-out sounds lovely, but its great to hear the manic version. I like hearing someone display their skill. He is approaching Galway's skill and Galway is the best. I would love an orchestral performance with standard tempo, then a showy version like this.
I think its important that people know you are playing James Galways arrangement of this piece, therefore is performed at the fast speed as a showpiece. If played in the original orchestral form, of course then it is played at the slower speed.
actually I have come across an orchestral version which was performed at more or less the same tempo, but I just can't recall which orchestra/artistes have played it. Well anyway at this tempo at least I don't have to struggle so much in terms of breathing..
Thats interesting! Yeh the breathing is pretty difficult, I remember having the an orchestral audition and the clarinet player set the speed for the solo at the end...was running out of breath!
Despite the errors, wonderful effort. What makes your performance so enjoyable is that you keep up the allegro vivace tempo. Thanks here from the United States!
i love flute too n i live in malaysia. im planning to study on music after my secondary school. can u share about how to qualify for NIE? thanks.(by the way my english is just quite ok only)
Hey you can visit W W WdotNIEdotEDUdotSG for info, I'm not sure what the admission procedures are like for foreigners but most probably you'll have to serve a teaching bond of four years in a Singapore school after your studies...
I graduated four years ago with a Bachelor of Arts (majoring Music and Mathematics) from a local university here in Singapore (NIE), my main flute teacher was Mr Goh Tiong Eng who was then working with the Singapore Symph. Orch.
If you can, try it out first, I can't say it's the best mouthpiece I've ever come across so far, but I do like the response I'm getting especially in the high registers of the flute. There might be a bit of a problem with projection though, but I'm not complaining!
that's one interesting flute..... isn't granadite heavy? nice playing :D can i suggest mayb work on when playing fast work on the low notes, but i know that's hard
Yeah..I fumbled quite a bit especially the middle bits... any slower and I couldn't have lasted that last 32 bars of the pieces in four breaths!! haha
SO do you like the Guo headjoint? I tried it out, but wasn't sold on it. I liked the weight and color in some registers. A friend of mine bought one, but returned it.
it's not just the middle part you messed up...

this was very good as to rhythm and speed, but you need to work on which notes to bring out! that would really help with your mistakes.

@sisterfister55 clarinets can easily double tongue if they are skilled... I played in a performance of this with a very similar tempo
