  • "The issue with hydrogen is fossil fuels." Dude, do you hear yourself? Ethanol has the same exact issue of getting it created as with hydrogen.

  • where can i buy the zapcar?

  • Whats with all this talk about turning CORN into FUEL? Thats the dumbest thing I've herd since GAY MARRAGE! Think about it for one second in your tiny cheeseburger fat filled American brains, CORN is also......wait for it......FOOD! We feed livestock corn, we put corn in everything from Coke to Cornbread, how can people be so blindly ignorant? Sure lets do it! maybe it'll kill all the mindless zombies that cutt me off in traffic!

  • if USA gov ,stop paying farmers not to grow corn ,corn crop can even double

also verty promising is sweet sorghum ,that yields 4 times more ethanol per acre than corn and grows with half the water and in marginal lands

manny sugarcane mills in the south closed due to low prices ,now they can be reopen as ethanol refineries

  • looks like a DACON with an upgrade... look. >>>> /watch?v=MygDGOw4JEQ

  • IS THE NET WOR KILLING PEOPLE

  • I like it and I am ready to buy one , I am also choosing for the oil companies to get behind this and do it in a organic way . Thank you .

  • wen they make sepraet roads for tractor's I'll drive a smaller car but a truck driver could drive right over that and not know

  • Of its nearly half a billion acres of prime cropland, the U.S. uses only 72.1 million acres for corn in an average year. The land used for corn takes up only 16.6% of our prime cropland, and only 7.45% of our total agricultural land.

  • The US needs to stop subsidizing to not grow corn !

  • WTF!

i've never seen this car here before...

  • I´m brazilian and I know this car would not run ever in Brazil. In fact, brazilians make fun of tiny cars: I´ve seen SMART drivers get ridiculed on the streets.

Also, there´s no reason for a car to be special just because it is flex: 85% of the cars sold in Brazil are flex and they are you regular car.

I think this is just a silly marketing scheme to make consumers feel they are driving something special.

  • os pedais de havaianas ficara muito engraçados ! huaeauheauhuhauhauha

  • It makes me want to cry that this car has still not come to the U.S.

It looks like a big scoop of Sherbet and and is designed with safety cage frames instead of crumple zones.

I was ready to start saving up to buy one when I graduate...now it seems that it will never come to the states.

  • Some feedbacks:

First Michinnom01: Yeah they don't go well together like YOU and BRAIN, For you I won't spare more words.

Luvemoranges: Nice way of thinking, don't buy the need of a better future for our world idea, the government lies, god doesn't exists, right? Are you sure all of this is real? WOW LET's ESCAPE FROM MATRIX!

christo930: that's it! and you are american right? Who care's if you're burning down our irreplaceable ozone layer, not obeying Kyoto Protocol. But hey we need FORDS!

  • First i'd like to say that now I'm another person using this account with a far better knowlege in this matter and in english.

Now, this car is a prototype, i don't know why USA is interested in that, because at least here in Brazil it will never be allowed to hit the streets with this ridiculous size.

That been said, of course Brazilian ethanol is made from sugarcane. And yes this technology was created by brazilians and it's RUNNING a good part of our cars since the late 60's.

  • Continuation: The Major part of Brazilian Sugar plantation is situated at the brazilian "cerrado" area (savanna alike) - central west, southeast and northeast, and it has been like that since the beginning of this culture. The rain forest is in danger, but most for other stupid reasons like wood harvest, not sugarcane.

The food issue is easy to solve, US must use sugarcane ethanol not stupid corn one.

Just hope this will correctly gain global use before the world starts to run out of oil.

  • @toinze69 Yes! The USA, use corn Ethanol, 'cause your plantations (sorry 4 bad english) of corn. Brazil is THE PLACE to plant (sorry for bad english [2]) sugarcane.

But no, the major part of the brazilian sugarcane is not in cerrado. Cerrado is a big, hot with dry climate, and twisted trees. It's not a very good place to plant something

  • It's not a lie, they're already being sold in Portland,OR

  • Seriously, brazil and modern are two terms that don't go well together.

  • Why is that? do you know EMBRAER? Just to give an exemple, reserch before you say samething you clearly don't know.

  • Hmpf! Sterotypes, sterotypes, and more stereotypes, when will we get over them?

I agree with alvarengaadilson, go research before saying shit.

  • @Michinnom01 what the fuck problem with you? I'm brazilian!

You think we are dumb? Go to the fucking hell!

  • it's a lie.. i'm brasilian too, ethanol here doesn't made with corn.

  • @victorfmn1 Yes of course, is with sugarcane..

Português: Claro! Com certeza, aqui é com cana de açúcar

  • Sure, it's way too expensive for a car so small, and that for some reason doesn't seem to give any other color combination aside from this weird orange-and-green set. Bring the price down to $15000 and make a paint-job a bit more usual like metalic black-and-silver and I might think about getting one, otherwise, leave it for the european, they seem to like it.

  • At the official site they say that the available colors are green, orange, yellow, red, silver, purple, pink and black. However, I could not find photos with these different colors.

  • I'd like to see the black one, would be much more sellable (is this even a word?)

  • the Bazil makes the ethanol with sugar cane not corn . sugar cane isn't food and we don't need to cut trees in amazonia for cultive this......

this don't make bad for nobody

  • @rafasanfona Sugar cane can be taken from the broth. As the sugarcane juice

  • That's an outrage!!!

Brazilian ethanol is from sugar tree!!!

  • You must belive in Santa too right? Ethanol from cane is the most eficient way to get done, it doesn't cause food shortege like the media an oil cartels want the people to think Ethanol is the fuel for an eco-societ anything else is just a big BS.

  • lol sounds like the cars from Irobot

  • I think the ethanol is the future!!!!!

All of peaple in the worl dont care about the global heating

    ethanol is the way.

I`m Brazilian and I care about amazonia and fields like that

Another think that i want to be clear is I hope the worl is ends,by wars or throw tecnology!!!

  • Brazilian Ethanol = Sugar cane

    USA Ethanol = Corn

  • man-made global warming, oil shortages, buy new 'clean' fuels...it's all bullshit. there's big profit in all of this propaganda and everyone is falling for it.

  • sem comentário.

  • FUTURE? Are you all crazy?!?!?!? LOL!!! We are using this sh*t here since 1964 and dont come from Corn, come from Sulgarcane, witch get more alcool the corn, and dont eat our food resorce. We up friends. We wish to give it to you, with no problem and for FREE!!!! Not because we love americans, but cause we are really worried about global worming and america are the NUMBER ONE in f*cking our planet.

  • Yeah, who cares if you're burning down irreplaceable rain forests to monocrop sugarcane. The cures for every disease known to man may be in those rain forests, but hey, we need our suv's.

  • sometimes many people uses to criticize another without looking at himself at the mirror....

I think the world was a great forest a long time ago.. nowadays people who destroyed his own forests seems like a piece of shit trying to say "ohhhh brazilians are destroying amazon!!! brazilians are putting down trees to plant sugarcane!" SHUT THE FUCK UP!!! if u destroyed what god gave to you, I don't give a shit!!!! leave us in peace!!!! why dont u try to replant your own forest?

  • The world was never a great forest. Granted a lot of forest has been cut down, but not all land is/was forest. The rain forest is irreplaceable. The Brazilian people (among others) need to stop and think. LONG TERM SUSTAINABILITY is far more important than sugar cane ethanol.

  • who cares if NORTH america spends trillion dollars making war, planting the seed of hunger, pain, hate and some other bad feelings, just to satisfy his own hunger of oil and revenge?

  • no one cares.Actually as a good christian brazilian, I can say that, everything all we know will disapear one day, and every year is getting worse: Global warming, starving, wars, earthquakes, diseases, only Jesus is enable to solve this forever.

  • This is one of the many problems with Christianity and believing in end times. There is no need to conserve and worry about sustainability since Jesus will come in our lifetime. Well guess what, it's been 2k years and do you know how many generations thought he was going to return in their lifetime? Maybe he won't come for 10 more millennia? Won't god be mad if we screw up his creation?

  • nowadays the sights are more visibles, I'm not happy by having been born in the 80s and see my generation taking over all of responsability about an unsafe future.

  • So I guess you think Jesus will be coming down any day now. Relieves you us of any responsibility of taking care of the earth and creating a sustainable society. We MUST ALWAYS assume Jesus is not coming in the near future. If the bible is 100% true, then Jesus came 4k years after creation. What if the plan is to come back in another 4k years? That leaves us 2k more years. What is God thinking as we destroy his lovely creation? God didn't create us to be glutens.

  • we (mankind) are destroying his creation and the worst os this: men has killed men for money, for power, for bad.We can't deny many people are trying to bring a white light to his world, but they are failing, unfortunately.

  • Brazil is making with sugar cane, not corn.

  • @Edwin30 Corn isn't food. Corn makes everyone fat.

  • Also, for those of you who think that producing ethanol from corn is causing food prices to climb, have you ever heard of a little thing called the "Conservation Reserve Program"? Farmers are PAID to put land in this program, and NOT farm it!! That's right, your government is paying farmers NOT to farm. How about raising ethanol crops on those lands while we wait for greener solutions?

  • Because the more Ethanol we make, the more fossil fuel is wasted making the Ethanol, with its energy return on investment of less than 1. It takes more energy to make a gallon of ethanol than you get by burning it. We should be growing algae in the desert, not corn on the farm (For fuel).

  • With sugar cane ethanol this problem don´t happen. The remains of the sugar cane provides the energy to produce the ethanol. and plant herself absorves 2 times the co2 that will be produced in the process.

  • Okay, I'm going to agree that we should find other energy sources. Solar, wind, etc. would be about the best. But while we wait for the infrastructure to catch up, ethanol is a great choice. We probably would have to cut back to E40 in the winter in northern climates to facilitate starting. (continued)

  • The answer is to abandon corn ethanol, and find a replacement like cellulose that can produce the ethanol at far less energy expense.

  • ethanol is worse than oil, much worse,it would be a stupid mistake to try and replace it with this

  • Great, now we'll have all the farmers growing corn, or other Ethanol crops and let's forget about the rising cost of food because farmers won't be growing any for consumption. Stick with oil and keep frmers producing food .

  • I rather think you need to do a little research before posting such tripe.

  • I should do some research, come to the real world. Have you looked at the price of corn, wheat, or other crops that can be converted to Ethanol. Do you do any grocery shopping? I don't think you know what it is to feed a family, and the high cost of food lately is related to farmers selling their crops for Ethanol use. Yes, I did research and quess what, Ethanol is not any less harmful to the environment then fossil fuels.

  • Well- it sounds like have been listening to oil prop. Fact is that there is a lot misconception out there because oil companies are holding on to there dirty cash cow secret . Media would have you believe that it is food for other countries. We do not sell corn for food to any country because it has be genetically change. Not a dime! Good luck finding the real truth. For Uniting!!! Robert Young

  • This car is brasilian??????? J'ai besoin de lui cherche

Seja lá onde ele é feito, eu quero um desses :D

  • This is still COMBUSTION technology.Arent we recreating the same mistake as burning OIL? Isn't the point of changing to CLEANER fuel sources,to make the air CLEAN?So why repeat the same mistake?!?Or other mistakes for that matter.Combustion motors pollute the air.Hydrogen motors require water..,(And so does every living thing on the planet. If that runs out were all screwed.)And Electric cars have batteries which are not recycleable and are toxic..,I guess that leaves the Air car folks.(?)

  • Brasilian corn ethanol is also known as Whisky!

  • no entiendo lo

  • in my guess, we don't need to worry about lack of food, but lack of WATER

anyway.. I wish to warn american people about 2 things of WHY ethanol cars are a good option here.

FIRST: brazilian ethanol (alcohol for cars) comes from SUGAR CANE. (we have A LOT here) and I heard that united states has A LOT of CORN so the north-american ethanol comes from corn.

BUT.. it takes A LOT of corn to produce a quantity of ethanol which only a few sugar canes would.

    (continue...)

  • ...SECOND: Ethanol cars DON'T WORK THAT GOOD WHEN IT'S COLD!

here we have trouble to start the engine in the morning, and mainly in cold seasons. and united states IS a cold country! it is cold the entire year, and in the winter it is even colder. so I am not sure an ethanol car would start under snow.

producing it correctly (pre-warming system, better batteries, better spark plugs... all the stuff united staters have money power AND proficiency to do) it works good!

  • Bio-fuel produce NOS with is 10 times more effective than CO2 as a greenhouse gas.

  • We don't need to be using food crops for fuel either. The copaiba tree of South America and the Jatropha tree of Nigeria/Africa can produce good quantities of diesel type oil for energy. Electric vehicles using wind, tidal, solar and geothermal energy is the cleanest cheapest way to run cars.

  • very nice!

  • When you buy gas or diesel oil, you give money to aiatolllahs, terrorists and so many bad things in the world. The stone age didn't ended because of stone's end, but because of better ways to live.Today, ethanol is cheaper than oil.

  • You are right about middle east oil sheiks getting rich on oil. But don't forget also, that the filthy rich Rockefellers (who basically own Exxon) and others like them in the western world are getting fatter bank accounts on oil. We the people need to collapse their stinking greedy lifestyles! And one way to do it is to stop voting for their deceiving paid politicians in most countries. Let's get alternative fuels up and running.

  • we need all that food. what the fuck are we gonna do when we feed all our food to our cars?

  • Hey Jonny, just to let you know, Brazil's ethanol source doesn't comes from corn or any other primary food source. Brazilian's ethanol comes from sugar cane, which WON'T increase hungry abroad.

And for your information, nowadays over than 60% of Brazilian's cars are flexible (gas, ethanol of both, you choose it) and the only thing that increases price was the sugar, which isn't primary food source.

In addition, Brazil has enought ethanol, petroleum and water for everybody!

  • Nobody criticizes the price of the barrel of petroleum to 130 in the world, and they criticize Ethanol. That also affected the value of the victuals in the world, fuels and derived of petroleum they are more expensive, tends consequence the transport of victuals they are also more expensive, and that is reflected in the value of the petroleum and not of Ethanol, ignorant world.

  • In Brazil Ethanol is not produced starting from the corn, as it is done in the United States, in Brazil it is produced starting from the cane of sugar, a vegetable that is not used as food. The country produces Ethanol to 30 years, and nor for that it affected the production of victuals, the lands were not more expensive. The ignoramuses of other areas of the world criticize Ethanol, because they don't know Brazil. The price of the petroleum to 130 they don't criticize.

  • Instead of drilling for any more oil, let's cut the addiction now since we have to cut it someday ANYWAY ! ! ! We have dragged our feet too long, and now we are in a mess...What if global warming is really caused by us ??? It is

better to be SAFE than SORRY ! ! ! Do thy patient no harm.....

  • The BIG PROBLEM OF ETANOL (ALCOHOL IN BRAZIL), THERE A NEED FOR MAJOR AREAS FOR THE CULTURE OF CANA AÇUCAR (PRIMA'S MATERIA ETANOL).

"The CAR MOVIDO TO ETANOL is VERY GOOD, I HAVE 2 IN BRAZL

  • I'm an agronomist and I live in Brazil.Less than 1% of brazilian territory is used to produce ethanol.

  • Santa Catarina territory.(1% of the brazilian territory).I think its too much.

  • All theworlds countries laughed at Brazil in the 70's during the energy crisis to go dependant on Ethanol instead of oil, for those old enough to have lived then. Now Brazil is the most Stable energy country in the America's. They are great friends in my opinion.

  • Brazil use Ethanol fuel since 1982. Today, all news cars are produce with bi-fuel (gasoline and ethanol, mixed or pure), and the ethanol is 15% more economic to use.

Brazil produce 2.5 million cars to year.

  • No, brazilian ethanol program (pró-álcool) starts in 1975 and the first car was produced in the same year.

  • 147 was only produced in 1976.

  • But the first car was the Dodge 1800. :)

  • The pró-alcool program started in 1975, but the first car sale in market 1980 only (1982 my error). As a FIAT 147 model, 1050cc engine.

  • Yes, I have counted the cost of war. Because the war just started because of the fuel, not because any mass destruction weapon. Who says this is Alan Greespan, not me.

About the size. Ethanol can move veicules any size. We have pick-ups and aeroplanes using this fuel in Brazil. You don't see many cause in large trucks, diesel is better. The 828 is a micro sports car because of your purpose, not because the fuel. Go to GM or Ford dotcombr and see the variety of flex cars.

  • blah blah blah. If it was "war for oil," gas would have been $1.00 a gallon 3 years ago. We liberated Iraq at our (mine and your) cost, the least they could do is pay us back with some cheap (or free) oil, but that's too political. Too many big players would lose too much money. Drill ANWR.

  • Like I said, it's Alan Greespan blah blah blah, not mine. Maybe is really better that you maintain you focus in petrol, not in biofuels, or else you could want to "liberate" us. Like an old tale says "Whith a friend like this, who needs a foe?"

  • I don't have any problem with using ethanol, other than domestically produced ethanol will make food costs soar.

I already drive a diesel truck and will have no problem using bio-diesel if it becomes more readily available. The biggest problem with fuel prices is taxes. Like everything else in the U.S., it's half or more tax.

  • Awesome, I like the smart car aspect, about cars communicating to avoid accidents.

  • Sigh...hopefully you know the difference between "growth for growth's sake" and "sustainable growth". And hopefully your countrymen do as well.

Also, I'm sure you know that the only reason these "emerging powers" are, uhhh "emerging" is because of their use of horribly economically inefficient protectionist policies. Ask your buddy hugo chavez about that one.

  • So we are all supposed to get this car which has no room for anything but a couple people. So we forget to reproduce and thus the end of humanity and the world will we saved. Geez you guys are silly, also the reason that cars like that get great milage is that they wiegh next to nothing and will kill you at 60 mph (110 kph) if you are in a collision.

  • When you say gasoline is cheaper did you include the $2 TRILLION cost of the Iraq War? That is a lot of ethanol.

  • To say the truth, ethanol is really cheaper than gas, at least in brazil. In US it can be more expensive because ppl are fool and use corn to do it, while in Brazil ethanol comes from sugar cane.

  • You do understand that the United States is not a conducive area for growing sugar cane in mass quantities, don't you?

  • Not in every sense. The same motor fuelled with ethanol develops more Hps. The price question is true, in USA. In Brazil is exactly the opposite, the ethanol costs half the gasoline price. And now, you can choose, we developed a fuel injection flexible. You can put gasoline, ethanol, or a mix of the two in any proportion. One fuel is not better than the other, they have vantages and disadvantages, but have the chance to choose is certainly good.

  • Actually, ethanol produces less energy than gasoline. It burns with less heat than gosoline and it explodes at a lower pressure with less energy. Ethanol does not power car engines better than gasoline. However, ethanol does have certain atvantages over gasoline. Ethanol is fun to drink.

  • If you drink ethanol carburant you'll die - it's not the same used in cars.

Ethanol produces 70% the energy of gasoline. So, takes the ethanol price divide it by the gasoline price. If the quotient is less than 0.7 use ethanol, if above, use gasoline. to compensate the lower pressure, the compression of the engines are higher, wich gives more hps.

  • I believe you're not conviced- so, I prefer use the words of a great americans. The fuel of the future is going to come from fruit like that sumach out by the road, or from apples, weeds, awdust -- almost anything," - Henri Ford. - Charles F. Kettering (GM) also researched this fuel at the 30's

  • Understand, I am not saiyng Ethanol is better than gasoline. For USA, at the moment, it is not. I believe it not give great envinronmental gain also. I am only saing that is ever better have options. In Brazil, the flexfuel cars cost the same of the gasoline cars, and, if you want, you can use only gasoline, with no diference in performance.

  • Ethanol dosen't seem to have a bright future in my opinion. Biodiesel is much more efficient and is much easier to make. I am not anti-alternative fuels, I am anti-stupid cars. But you are right about one thing. It is definately better to have options. Have you ever had vodka? Thats 40% ethanol.

  • I don't understand why you said biodiesel is better... there are lots of problems involving biodiesel productions and storage. Brazil is trying to develop biodiesel (and add 2% of biodiesel in the diesel), but it is not economically competitive when comparing with diesel and has lot's of others deficiencies. In the other hand, ethanol is a great success here, being cheapper than gas and reducing cities polution...

  • Biodeisel is very good. Problably better than gasoline and ethanol. The only problem is that the thecnology is yet under development. The ethanol is already working fine.

  • Men, The 828 to be selled in USA is a flexfuel car. If you want to use gasoline, be my guest. The fact is that the engineering has evolved and the otto engines can be fueled with gasoline pure, gasoline mixed, hidrated ethanol or even GNC without loss in performance. Here we have a car like this, the Fiat Siena Tetrafuel. The only reason to stay with only one of them is that gasoline, in your contry, is very cheap, and theres no benefit, yet, in pay the price of change.

  • fuck america nazi country

  • Brazil makes ethanol from sugar not corn. Not a solution for the united states. It will just add more problems to the food vs fuel debate.

  • I'm really surprised you're the only one to mention that because it's central to the issue here.

Corn is America's largest crop, and we don't have a climate to produce sugarcane for ethanol. So for now, ethanol remains an energy-inefficient fuel source if it is meant to replace gasoline.

However, swicthgrass, which is more conducive to American climates, is an intriguing ethanol source. Check it out.

  • nobody likes bush, hes a complete idiot and youll get no argument from me there

portugese, spanish who cares? same basic area

and to all our foreign friends, if you hate us then why do you want to get your goods into our markets? i mean were stupid rednecks, why sell us hydrogen cars?

oh wait, were also the richest nation on earth!

  • LOL

Yes, we are rich. And they're jealous :D

  • Brew your own fuel. Moonshine=Ethanol. If ignorant hicks can do it, so can we. Fact: Ethanol fuel generates 70% fewer emissions than gasoline. Solar-powered hydrogen extraction plants are easily within reach. Fuel from seawater, exhausted as palatable water vapor.

  • Our president, you know who, says we need to cut our dependence on foreign oil. This is coming from a man who is attempting to claim the world's largest supply of crude oil reserves. A man who uses his power to kill off alternative fuel programs. A man who is getting filthy rich off of said oil.

  • are you Dr. FuzzyBalls?

  • LOL oh my goodness such HATE-ARATION. you people know if you where rich like america you would be the SAME WAY !!! Stop hating on the the US it is really sad. U.S is not the best, no one is. Get a life you people GOD!!!!

  • People hate us because of hicks like the guy above. Just look at his awful comments...

  • You have to forgive that ignorant American for making all of us look bad. Its people like him who probably voted for our current president.
