Elway also had 148 wins second most all time by a quarterback and most at the time of his retirement and he did that without a great team most of his career

Elway never had to win a super bowl to be beloved in Denver, but he still did, twice. Greatness should not have a definite road to travel. It should be a combination of regular season stats, victories, impact on the game, and post-season production. John had all of that.

His D didn't show up in those Superbowls and he played with a cast that couldn't start on any other NFL team, he carried those Broncos teams of the 80's to the Superbowl. Just ask Matt Millen when preparing for the Broncos the 49ers called the Denver Elway's cause that was all they had.
