I made a big mistake. Glissendo must be done in Key "C". In all other keys, impossible to slide or by fingering since other keys need one or more # or flat (black keys). By definition, glissendo is sliding not fingering. I was wrong. I spoke with SAW and he asked " How did it happen?" To save my face, I would not go any further and bar myself for weeks being a disqualified critic. "Tat Ka Tho" series would be removed & re-upload later due to copy right issues. Please accept my apology. Tyftmusic
I love it, it reminded me of my MC1 in 1964-65 days, all the girls were ordered to wear the long sleeved eingyi (long sleeved Burmese blouse). I had double twisted hair style for my below knee length thick hair (hnit part sho sa done) with one rose on my hair & my friends teased me with this song. Thanks for sharing.
Glissendo in A-flat? Piece of cake for Myanmar pianists who can play 3 times faster than this. It's about Myanmar piano fingering. Yes, it's played by two hands though one can perform in one hand. They can play in any key very fast. Most of Sandaya Tin Win Hlaing's works were ended with glissendos. Some of his glissendos were faster than it should , drew criticism in the circle of Myanmar artists. "Glissendos and "Myanmar Piano" will be a great topic. Thanks you for bringing this up.
I must say that glissendo, sliding along the keys, is only possible with all white notes or more rarely all black notes. In A flat key with 4 flats, it is not phyically possible. If you play quickly with 2 hands, it will not be as quick as a real glissendo and will not sound like one. Glissendo sounds impressive but is not difficult in C. Maybe Ko Aung Win will show us on youtube how it can be done in A flat either with 1 or 2 hands- it will be the first in the world.
In this computer age, one can play the piece in C major with glissendo and then use the computer to transpose it to A flat key. Music software programme can do things which are impossible for us. Unless it is recorded live and when I see the glissendo being played across a mixture of white and black keys, I will believe it.
But believe me, it is not possible for us humans, either Myanmar, Japanese or any pianist.
Glissendo has nothing to do with fingering because you do not finger the keys, you just slide across the keys like a guitarist or a harpist strumming across the strings. To play glissendo very quickly is not difficult. Rock pianists, jazz pianists all use it. There is a piano piece for children attributed to Mozart called La tartine de beurre ( Bread and butter in English translation) which has glissendo in it. Even children of grade 4 standard would be able to play it.
@MMAsIngs I'll appreciate if you would upload your glissendo in C by sliding across the piano keys like a guitarist/harpist, just for my education. I witnessed SAW playing it in A-Flat, no soft ware. Glissendo in A♭ is a routine for Myanmar pianists. I have video of it. If you send yours via UTube or privately, I'll do mine (played by SAW in another song). With permission, of course. Yes, it takes <3 weeks practice, needs 2 hands fingering method, not sliding, for A♭ Glissendo.Thank for comments
I do not want upload my piano music yet. But since you want to see how glissendo is played both up and down the sliding the finger, I will send a link to an amateur playing Mozart's piece for children. Please note that the left hand is playing chords and accompaniments even in a children piece. It is La tartine de beurre by Mozart. Interested people can search on youtube and watch how glissendo is played. I will wait for SAW playing glissendo in A Flat.
I have sent thro' youtube a video with the fingers sliding across the piano for up and down glissendo. For others interested to watch, search on youtube La tartine de beurre by Mozart and watch the video on Haelica's channel. I am only grade 6 standard and want to wait until i get to grade 8 before i upload. Also I am studying Harmonisation at the keyboard and once I have learnt, I want to do myanmar songs with harmony and accompaniment. Let us see SAW playing glissendo in A flat.
For those interested to see Glissendo played by a great pianist, search in youtube 'The ritual fire dance- piano' played by Artur Rubenstein. Near the end he played masterly glissendo several times. Please watch Rubenstein's wonderful performance and this music can only be played well with the modern standard fingering. I will be interested to know tyftmusic's opinion whether he thinks a myanmar pianist can play quicker with myanmar fingering.
@tyftmusic How can one play glissendo in A flat? Since the white keys and the black keys are at different level, how can one glide along the keys? It defies logic.Since you said that you have a video of Sandaya A W playing glissendo in A flat, PLEASE UPLOAD IT FOR OTHER PIANISTS TO LEARN. I am convinced if he attempts to play glissendo in A flat with either one or 2 hands, it will not sound like a glissendo nor will be as quick as a real glissendo. Prove me wrong please by uploading the video.
If you have seen a glissendo being played, you would not have said about fingering. You do not finger each key seperately for glissendo. So it does not make a difference whether it is a myanmar fingering ( I did not know until you said that Myanmar pianists use a different fingering) or standard international fingering. I do not think the Myanmar pianists can play quicker than international pianists like Horowitz, A Brendel, Kempf ect. Wake up and listen to western piano music too
Sorry about my mistake in my previous comment. The key of A flat has 4 flats ( B flat, E flat, A flat and D flat) and not 3 flats as I said in my previous comment. But A Flat is not a difficult key for most of the average pianists. For a beginner of course, any accidental SHARP OR FLAT is difficult.
Key A flat is bread and butter of modern international pianists, and every average pianist should be able to play it comfortably. If you look at piano books you will find quite a lot of music in the key of A flat. Quite a lot of average pianists in the west can even play reasonably well the difficult key of C sharp or its enharmonic D flat with so many accidentals in the key- not just 3 flats like in A flat. Lots of pianists can comfortably play Beethoven's Moonlight sonata in C sharp minor.
Me too, I dont know why S Aung Win claimed that it is challenging to play in A flat. When I sat associated board piano grade 4 exam , the major and minor scales with up to 4 accidentals, sharps or flats, is in the syllabus. By grade 6 exam, all the major and minor scales, both melodic and harmonic are in the syllabus. After 4 or 5 years of study, a pianist should be able to play music in A flat with no difficulty. Do pianists in Burma learn only the key of C and other easy keys?
@MMAsIngs Dear all friends, I have many comments and thank you for every suggestion. I am using only iMyanmar channel account and other users are not Sandaya Aung Win. I am still listening and learning as I can. I played for some myanmars who are away from country and want to sing myanmar old songs. When they sing with my music, I am happy. I must sincerely appolgize that if my music is inappropriate for high pro level musicians. I love everyone who loves music. Thanks !
I agree. All good pianists should know all the scales and be able to play in any key. When less able pianists play Beethoven's Moonlight sonata transposed from a difficult C sharp minor to an easier key especially with simplified left hand accompaniment, it sounds childish and nothing like the original.
Are you sure this is in the key of A flat? I could not find my tuning forks to test the pitch of the key note and since I could not see your hands playing, I did not know whether you were playing the flats of B, E and A. But you played a glissendo at the end. I would be interested to know how you could manage to play a glissendo with 3 flats in the key? I think nobody, not even Alfred Brendel nor Rachmaninoff, would be able to play a glissendo in A flat key. Please tell me if I am wrong.
I love it. Introducing some chords into traditional style makes it more interesting to me. I would even prefer more chords - just my opinion. It will be like when Handel introduced the rich bass sound of the French horn to the orchestral music 300 years ago- music suddenly became richer and more beautiful. I always like the rich bass sound which accompany the melody and myanmar piano music will become richer in texture and become more interesting. Your playing is as beautiful as ever.
