  • You made my day thanks Mehran Sahami you have such a good sense of humor that's makes you so Spaicial thanks again

  • Useless ! Just a regular prof. rambling on. Nothing special about it. He is just waving his arms in the air as if he is trying to swim

  • love this guy!

  • I'm a math professor, and I once received a negative student eval with the comment ``He thinks math is the most important subject in the world." I took it as a compliment.

  • Stanford still use chalks..

  • Whats the name of Professor to whom Mehram referred as 'Father of computer science' . I have played that part a dozen times where he spoke the name and i couldn't get it. I am dying of curiosity , plz anyone tell me the name , Thanks.

  • @TaimurAce The father of Computer Science is Donald Knuth. As Wikipedia states "Knuth has been called the "father" of the analysis of algorithms. "

  • That's a disappointing smattering of applause after such a rad speech.

  • great prof wish i was at stanford

  • is there a complete lecture that I could follow

  • @Hotmonkeylovin Yeah, search in Stanford University and you can view the courses professors teach.

  • I believe if you are a teacher and cannot give a presentation as good as this you dont deserve to be in the teaching business. if you are not passionate about your work why the hell even bother being there making other peoples lives boring as hell. all teachers should take a good hard look at themselves and give a damn about the kids they teach.

but hey thats just what i think :))) nice work mehran sahami

  • So excited to take his class.

  • @zippitydoodah143 WOW your lucky as hell... omfg.

  • an excelent teacher i have ever seen! his lectures helped me so much to get used to Java! i am so glad that stanford upload his lectures. i have never had a teacher like him, i wish if my lecturers were like hi. Thank you so much professor Mehran SahamI.

  • He's a really good teacher.

  • Wow, that was real good. I didn't know what to expect of this vid but he made me rethink the way I see today's world of computer science.

  • good outlook on life.

  • I'm revising for an organic chemistry exam.

Disheartned, I typed in "science inspiration" and chose the first video.

    This inspired even me!

  • no wonder you find a lot of stanford guys at google

  • Great Videos! Cool channel!!! Its Carrie coming back atcha. Check out my channel. Keep Rockin'

  • I wish i had a teacher like that.

  • I watch this video every once in a while when I need inspiration =)

  • Pardon my rather prosaic question: how does the blackboard system works ? In other words: how does the teacher write on those blackboards situated so high above that they can only be reached by using a ladder?

    ...

  • my guess, they slide

  • How ...

  • look up

"Dancing Chalkboards" on youtube for an exciting example :)

  • Actually, the system shown on that video is not the same ... yeah, whatever, "they slide" :)

Thank you for the video anyways, quite amusing :p

  • They do slide. You start writing with all the "top ones" pulled down, then when you fill them up, you push the top chalkboard up, revealing a fresh new chalkboard.

  • LOL! That made my night! I been up and not veing able to sleep till 5am and watching videaos like this.

  • guess what?.. hahah.. its 4.50 AM here in seattle... Man had i knew studying in stanford can be this great... i would have done everything possible to get thru... blah blah blah... \/ Peace

  • He has really long arms.

  • Haha, I guess that's how he makes the top ones slide ! :D

  • @BlingBlingDo the boards slide up and down. Where you from?

  • I'm feeling it!

  • He makes a great point! It's as if Theologists get to study their subject while Jesus Christ is still alive, showing that we are in the infant stages of CS and even though I'm not in that field (finance) it will be exciting to see how the subject evolves in the upcoming decades and centuries

  • I wish all professors were like him. I can tell he's very passionate about his work and the subject he lectures.

  • @XpressDTruth I had a (java) teacher like that (maybe even better). he drove me to class with his Golf every class we go to class. 'cuse we are neighbours. :)

  • uh yes..of course..i agree...i don't think i would do well on that test.

  • This one really inspired me to conc more on DS and algo.Thanx a ton!

  • uhhh....what?

  • this is a cool cat

  • This is why many people want to teach! to make a difference! corny soo true and alot of respect from me!
