Aaarrrggghh!! The KURO is beautiful! I had a chance to get the PDP-5010FD and the KRP-500M but i blew it!! Could have had it for less than $1500 but I didn't pull the trigger right away and the next day they were gone :( It is truly a LEGEND. No other existing manufacturer can come close to it's black level and contrast. It's been 2 years and I'm still regretting for not acting fast.
I have an opportunity to buy one of these locally. (60 inch), but the sellers starting price is $2800. I know these tv's are supposed to be legendary, but give me an idea of a fair asking price. I'd go $1800-2000 tops. No one can fix them anymore since Pioneer no longer makes televisions. Too bad.
@BlayzedBlue Can you still get it with warranty? Or is it used? New, the 9th GEN 60" (the TRUE Kuro) is worth every penny of that $2800. Used, without the warranty, I agree, you have to calculate your risk and I'd go with your price point (if you can afford it): 1800-2000. I hope you get it, you will consider it the best thing you ever bought in your life :-)
Even the best Plasma's today cannot match the Kuro's image but they are getting closer and closer obviously as time passes, in a few years you will probably see an as good plasma panel. You can still pick up new Kuro's but the problem is they are 'stuck in time' with old connections, power usage and thickness. If they hadn't been so damn expensive Pioneer probably could have made a go of it.
@draadjesvlees There are a few new boxed ones on ebay from time to time and also local TV shops have some in stock but they want silly prices for them. Do you know the Elite brand is coming back but they are now made by Sharp and are LCD TV's, might be worth checking out.
@arrow1archer No its not: way too expensive, remember, panasonic aims at low end mass media consumer crap market, not at high end where Pio put its brilliant product. No chance you will ever see Kuro technology in panasonic tvs: pana bought it to put Pio out of business so its no threat to their low end crap.
@draadjesvlees actually pioneer stoped making them because they lost millions because no one new who pioneer was compared to companies like samsung, sony, panasonic and lg so they had to stop but panasonic bought most of their engineers and now their is pioneer tech in a panasonic plasma i was told by a pioneer rep
@arrow1archer .....The reason they stopped was not because people did`nt know who they were. It`s because their plasma`s cost £3000 or £4000 and used about 400 watts of electricity an hour to run so they were selling to a small market. Panasonic purchased the use of some of Pioneer`s plasma technology but they still don`t come close to a Pioneer plasma I saw in a retailers 5 years ago. It was stunning. Deep blacks in fully lit shop. Not mid grey and washed out colours
To add to this: in the 80's, I was a HUGE HUGE HUGE pana-fan, when they still made superiour quality. Today, they are on the same level as LG and Philips, thanks to their brainless 'marketeers'...
omg i wish i could see a blu ray movie on 1 of those tv's before they were discontinued. now there engineer are working or Panasonic so there Plasma HDTV's will now be superior to all others. Where is this footage from???
@draadjesvlees ahhh ill have to take ur word for it if you own a Kuro. but never the less Panasonic has always made a damn good plasma and they just keep gettin better. my tv's black levels are very impressive amongst other things like color and clarity. you should make a video.
@C815richard Even using my full HD cam it would be crappy when I upload it on youtbe (I tried before). Wife told me to buy a second one, as a spare one, just in case, but: I can't find any, nobody wants to sell it :D
@TheFred128 This is true, time and time again the Pioneer 9 series has been regarded as a reference level of display, in particular due to its enormous contrast ratio and deep inky black that it can produce.
This display is the single best piece of technology/toy i have ever owned and would never part with it for any other display.
I also own a Panasonic TXP50G20B 50 inch plasma with neo pdp technology which does produce some stunning images also, but not a patch on the Pioneer!
@BroonUpTheToon I will buy a Panasonic Viera plasma, which are as good as the Pioneer, I think. The Panasonic Viera I've seen many times connected, and running the avatar, and have to say that the image quality was amazing! the real black.
@TheFred128 Yes, they are way better. Makes sense: pana and samsung sell low end mass consumer crap, Pio aimed at the top of the market. I paid 4000 EUR for a new KRP.
@draadjesvlees That statement may have been correct a year ago. But The KURO has been passed. Sharp now holds the best TV to date. And I'll be damned..... It's an LED.
Kuro beats any TV, be it plasma, LCD, LED, or CRT: nothing can come close. I know, because I have one of the very latest ones that were manufactured and when I walk into a store to see if something comes close to the Kuro yet I smile and think 'it was a damn expensive TV, but man am I glad I bought it'. Btw, I have this clip in blu ray, and any guest that sees this on my Kuro starts to drewl :-) Another one to recommend: BBC Life documentary in Blu ray: even I start to drewl every time again :-)
@draadjesvlees agree i have one of the 1080i pioneers its amazing but im upgrading to a 65nch panasonic plasma since its the closest thing to pioneer since half the engineers went to panasonic
@arrow1archer Why, ever, you want to go with panasonic once you've tasted the Kuro??????? ( :-)) My wife even threatens she will throw me out before the Kuro; nobody can become between her and her Kuro... (this is not a joke). Seriously, panasonic is ultimate crap compared to Pio Kuro. I am still so happy I got my hand on one of the last ones, I am only sad that I can't find a spare one. I know that once it will break down I have to revert to something WAY WAY WAY lower quality.
@draadjesvlees Do you know if you can still buy this bd anywhere? I bought one of the latest Kuro's a year ago (5090h) and it is stunning!! Still every day I am amazed by the pictures it produces
@draadjesvlees fuck off nigger you obviously have never seen a high quality crt. (by hi quality i mean something you couldnt just go to a consumer grade store and buy) Maybe you were thinking of the grey phosphor crt cos those have poor black balance.
have fun with your tv that will never be able to be repaired.
Where can I get this demo for my Kuro. I got the lx5090 myself and its amazing. All other TV's esspecially LCD's cannot even stand in the shadow of this machine. It's pure magic. Stunning PQ after ISF calibration. Big respect to pioneer and sad they had to stop the production of plasma's.
the only thing that comes close to this tv is panasonic VT-30. without spending over 5 to 8 thousand dollars that is

So Panasonic bought most of their engineers so pioneer plasma technology is in Panasonic's plasma range

There is a lcd screen with led edge lighting and thats what the uneducated called a led, go look into it before you make silly comments.

The BEST TV IN THE WORLD....
Don't come with Panasonic, Samsung... etc etc...
Once i went to a store and the guy was selling these "LOWE" High End TV's and he told me those we're even better than Pioneer.... LOOOOOOL
Yeahhh... right.... Just for the record "LOWE" it's just a brand outside the screen, inside is SHARP, this means is average...
Pioneer all the way....
