Interesting but WIERD! As someone who was THERE in the 60's, and had a 'bike because it was all we 16yr olds could afford, to see wealthy fashion obsessed 20 somethings dressing up like this in 2011 is vaguely odd. The views expressed are miles from how it WAS, and, amongst those of us still around, still IS. But, if it keeps the spirit alive .....
People could certainly afford Vincent-HRDs, although they were extremely expensive when new. By the late 1950s, they were really just obsolescent machines although ton-up boys respected them. They were priced accordingly and some photos show ton-up boys with Vins. There were also quite a few Norvins about.
the vincent was a great bike but no one could afford to buy one, the trident to little to late, i think the italians got there first with 100mph bikes even the 250 ducati of the 60s could reach around that speed
Theres nothing gay about Rockers, my dad is a Rocker and he'd knock ur head off as soon as look at ya! Watching some of these videos on here and having people tell you first hand what went on it was really quite scary, you just didn't know what was going to happen and to what lengths some of these people would go to. I think if they had existed now you wouldn't have the little shits around of today, they would have been got rid of. Hallelujah! Bring it on!
Keep up the good work guys. There is nothing better than being a Rocker. Wearing studded black leathers is about style. Like you my biker jacket is part of who I am and I wear it all week, even to work which is great because people recognise my individuality. It is about projecting who you are and looking good which is why I like the Rocker style including my black leather jacket. ROCKERS HAVE STYLE.
Great video! I am shipping my BSA over to England this coming August , for a month. Cant Wait. Maybe I will see you on the B roads. Being a photographer I would love to get some photos with your club...
Rockers = fucking hard as nails, lol, I'm only 17 and since I saw quadrophenia some year ago I realised how badass rockers are, lol, I should go get meself leather trousers. Can a rocker listen to psychedelic beat?
Great to see you guys and girls keeping the spirit of the rockers alive and kicking.
The full black leather bikers look is so full on in style and cool, but to appreciate the ultimate in cool check out the rocker girl in the Free 'wishing well' video on youtube. She has on the most awesome studded black leather biker jacket. It is a work of art and beauty to behold. Keep rocking
What tosh. Nothing looks better than a full set of black leathers from head to toe a stride a bike and especially if the girl is in a studded jacket and shades - THAT'S COOL
What tosh. Nothing looks cooler than a full set of black leathers head to toe astride a bike especially if the girl has a studded jacket and shades - THAT'S COOL
Hey John! I knew you were in Berlin. I'm in Paris. Last time I saw you, you were in a Kubelwagen, over from Germany. Funny you should mention the Vincent. I'm in the process of a ground-up restoration. I'll be in Brittany this weekend assembling the bottom half of the motor. There's a good scene here in Paris, a bit like London about 20 years ago, before the 'politics' and the chromosexuals turned it into a wankfest. I bimble about on a 1950 Trophy and a 1955 R60.
memories ? i should coco, between 1984 and 2000 i was hacking around in london on various old bikes
i was occasionally to be found at the russel arms, the pen,59 club, johnsons caff
etc etc
i had a quite nice original triton circa 1966 which still had dunlop racing tyres when i got it.
also had home made twin carb head, it was regularly blown up , but was quite fast.you can just see the front end of it poking in from the right hand side around 2.58 into the film
I come to NYC several times a year. I'm actually in Maine right now, working on a project. Never had a Triton although I rode a few around for photoshoots back then. Still got a Triumph but more into Vincents these days. All the best, PK
man i love punk but i just dont get the greaser idea ive personally found it lame and i always thought it revolved around being a dick so whatever i could be wrong
Hi Prosper, we met many years ago outside Ned's shop in Tooting Bec. How is Paris? I'm glad you like the vids... It was a little tongue in cheek with the Kenneth Anger references etc. Glad your still on the road. Need to get the Triton over here in NY. Kind Regards Chuka
Having watched it again, I must congratulate you on the aesthetics but it's worth pointing out that we weren't all into that whole Kenneth Anger "Scopio Rising" thing. I take the point about Putting On The Style but the original members tended to spend their hard-won cash or dole on tuning parts. I found the sequence of the caff racer being rolled into the garage particularly poignant, as did some of the other members I've talked to. We're still riding, though.
Nice short. I recognise some of the names. Even saw myself in one of Ben Part's pics. I still have my original alloy MFMC badge. These were made by Johnny Campling and Rob Carr. I also have a couple of the teeshirts. Drop me a line, guys. The scene here in Paris is about where London was twenty years ago.
