  • There's a better version of this done live by Rocket From the Tombs, David Thomas doing good backing vocals. It was on the Pere Ubu box.

  • This whole collection just digs into my soul and puts me into a daze.

    So beautiful and horrifyingly sad.

    R.I.P. Peter.

  • 1 person has no fucking soul at all

  • See "Amphetamine - Peter Laughner" for another, previously unreleased, version of this song. Some verses are different. Acoustic guitar and reed organ arrangement...

  • Who's the one idiot living in his mother's basement collecting Star Wars figurines?

  • @BabylonAGoGo Quality comment!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Anybody that doesn't like this song needs to come to Winston-Salem, NC, so I can punch him in the face.

  • We need a rockumentery for all the world to know this talent.

  • @BabylonAGoGo Him and Sean Mercer! It's like Sean dropped off the face of the planet!

  • @BabylonAGoGo I agree. It breaks my heart that no one knows his name. If nothing else, he wrote a song that ended up on GN'R's Spaghetti Incident, where they ruin all my favorite songs...

  • some utterly emotive music ever.

  • From Smog Veil,

"The work will finally see the light of day in 2011 as the Peter Laughner LP series debuts in April on Record Store Day. Each LP in the series will feature the best possible audio quality and extensively researched liner notes including never before published photos and amazing interviews. We've tracked down plenty of never before heard recordings, including master reels of secret studio sessions, pristine band rehearsal recordings, and great live recordings."

  • its better

  • I think it's better than heroin

  • @PyneappleExpress So do I.

  • nice!

  • Very influenced by The Velvets, reminds me of "Heroin".

  • Sounds mid-sixties Dylan with some Velvet Underground influence.

It probably would be better as a finished studio, I distortion of the vocal kinda gets in the way.

  • There's a cleaner-sounding version on the Cinderella Backstreet 7". Same type of sound as the recording of "Baudelaire" that's available here. I like it better.

Good song no matter what, though.

  • FYI, just got an Email from Smog Veil, who issues recordings by Pere Ubu & Rocket From The Tombs.

"Smog Veil Clearing The Air newsletter #73, February 2010...Heck, we may even get that Peter Laughner box set done."

    perviously,

Wikipedia: "As of 2007, the Smog Veil record label is reported to be releasing a Laughner box set (with tapes procured from Handsome Productions, David Thomas, Tim Wright, and others) which may materialize in 2010. "

  • himself801, thanks for posting that.

Sounds promising! I hope they do get it done.

  • check out the day earth met rocket from the tombs for another side of this genius. what a shame we were robbed of him but have to endure 20-30 years of crap from mediocre artists. then again the rarity increases the value of his gems

  • can you please post cinderella backstreet? people need to hear this song

  • This is the music of someone who was truly here.

  • where can I get this album! could you upload it somewhere please???

  • pete's not in hell-he became a beautiful angel playing a harp as beautifully as he played guitar--knew him 2, saw him play

damnloureed's "Heroin" Cleveland 4-7-1976,--after song, turned to my (also dead before 30 friend), and said that was probably the most beautiful guitar i

I will ever hear...I was 19, and I was right.

  • Hi can you tell me more about Peter? I´m somehow obsessed by him, because I can identify with him, only that I´m fifteen years younger. He was at the right time at the right places, but never made it. A lost genius.

  • listen to the song cinderella backstreet..it will make you cry...these songs were recorded on his 4track days before he died

  • Remarkable talent. Rocket From The Tombs, in which he played some beautiful guitar, along w/ Cheetah, perhaps the best band ever not to record an LP... This song , Ain't if Fun, Sylvia Plath... brilliant. If I am wrong, and there is a Hell? He'll have to wait in line, because I have a bunch of friends who need an ass kicking for dying young... but I've got one to spare for Peter. Too fucking good to die at 24.

  • Very moving song, great stuff.

  • another great talent snuffed out by drugs
