@RockFene Concuerdo contigo, pero desafortunadamente las cosas pasaron de esta terrible forma. Igual Ayrton vivo o muerto es mas leyenda de lo que puede ser Schumi u otros con mas logros que él.
I almost cried when i saw this weekend because Rubens Barichello got injured on friday practice Ratzenberger dies on saturday practice :( and senna dies on the restart if the race :0
The cars in 1994 weren't structurally built to withstand impacts like that! today's modern F1 cars are far more solidly built and if there's a major incident the driver has a fighting chance of surviving!!..
@ZZombyWooff Because this isn't funny. You told us about safety - i mean that in 1994 even stupid wheel of a car could kill senna. Today's F1 is much better - look at the Kubica's crash - if it were in '94, he could die 2 times.
@WillHapgood2 True. Let me try to answer your question! Didn't Barrichello crash in the 2nd last corner (right-left S) due to too high speed, almost choking to his own tongue? Friday practice, it was I think.
In the aftermath of Senna's death it would have been very easy for people to have forgot what happened to Ratzenberger as well. That's why it was incredibly noble of Max Mosley, no matter what other opinions we have of him, to have attended his funeral while everyone else attended Senna's. The darkest weekend in formula one history.
@KCQUIPOR, actually you're a bit blind or is it rather the VHS tape that has a poor quality. Idk, but if you'd look closely, it actually says 1994 not 1991.
@RO83RTFERRARI People have partiest to celebrate the life. I want people to be happy on the day of my death... not miserable because I am no longer here but to share the great days that I hopefully share with awesome people.
tragic though the death of Roland was, im fairly sure, if youd have asked the drivers, including Ayrton, they would have said 'let the show go on'. All drivers, of all eras, are fully aware of the dangers they face, and still do it, just because they love their jobs, and love the sport
I still cant beleive that the fia or the team owners actually let the race weekend go ahead after roland's crash. if they had postponed the race we would still have ayrton with us today.
@garyb654 u r so right.that is exactly what i was thinkin.Senna wouldnt of crashed if the race was postponed.i am shocked that they let the race day go on with a driver dying the day before!on the news report there waas only a small thoyght of roland's death.but poor senna died aswell.both drivers will definately be missed but it was the f1 boards fault for lettin the race weekend continue, without even the slightest regard 4 ratzenberger!!
Italian Rules state that if the driver was not dead on track. The race must go on, Roland's was indeed dead on track, BUT, he had life support, which meant he was still alive ( in a fashion) So italian authority deemed the race must go on.
@garyb654 Actually they should have stopped before, when Barrichello almost killed himself in a horrible crash. Both Roland and Ayrton would still be alive.
@Stupido95 Be a realist, 100s of thousands of people die everyday. It's why we exist, to pass on our genes and get the fuck out. You might as well LOL. The decomposing ain't gonna give a shit.
@imbacat87 the truth is death is a necesary "evil"

sorry for your girlfriend but being so jealous to answer on stupidos comment that nasty! sorry but thats just fucking dumbass style ... but with move on your right ...thats important because you can kill yourself when you dont move on and your'e sad all the time life got no sense then ...
@ITW84 I found this while searching for Ayrton Senna on Wikipedia: "As track officials examined the wreckage of his racing car they found a furled Austrian flag—a victory flag that he was going to raise in honour of Ratzenberger.[68] Pretty touching!
Both deaths on this weekend were caused by the open cockpit design... 2 possible causes for senna, the neck jolt, or a wheel to the head. ratzenberger would have been killed because of the neck movement caused by the impact, see barichello's accident or hakkinen 1995 adelaide in slow motion for an example... in modern cars, movement is so limited, that severing ones nervous cord's at the neck is no longer possible!
06kohlert is correct but still tragic. Roland died instantly (impact with wall), Senna with multiple head injuries (wheel and other debris). The cars are much safer now, and MotoGP bikes accelerate and brake faster than F1. Dangerous which is why so few can, or do, what they do. Vale Roland and Aryton.
Absolutely. Kubica's crash was so much worst and still walk away, thankfully. Hans divice is the best invention in racing. I don't know how many lives has saved already.
its basically a block of material that fits onto the drivers shoulds which has a strap on either side that connects onto strap buttons on the drivers helmet which stops the neck jerking when a driver crashes or gets shunted. it restricts the drivers movements to less than an inch or 2 of head movement.
It not just the hans device. The cars themselfs are made better now. They make out of better material and design to take energy from crash and less for driver. That with hans makes f1 safer. But even that could not stop felipe massa accident at hungary. that is freak accident.
Italian law says that if a death occurs in a sporting event, the event has to be cancelled and the death investigated... This sad accident could have spared Senna's life the next day, but there was too much money invested into this and it got the better of justice I guess...
Two questions, however. Did the Italian law say this before the race, or was it put in after the race because of what happened?
Also, San Marino is an independent European state, its own flag, national football team etc so its laws may be different from Italy's.
Even in the old days though, when it was less commercially driven, the show would go on. It had always been a part of racing so the sport just got on with it. Even in the 1950s when a driver would die each race weekend.
I belive the law was there before the race... And even though the San Marino GP is called that way, it was held in Italian ground (Near Imola, some 50 miles away) so laws apply...
I didn't realise that Imola was in Italy, however that would make sense because the closest hospital (Maggiorre) was in Italy. Thankfully there is more respect to driver safety in legal terms and in technology today.
I agree. If they didn't race the next day out of respect for Roland, nothing would have happened and his teammate would still be alive today (Ayrton Senna). RIP both.
Que pancada! No documentário do Ayrton Senna, Roland Ratzenberger diz que precisava se controlar, pois estava fazendo o que nenhum piloto fazia. Ele estava jogando muito o carro nas curvas.

its basically a block of material that fits onto the drivers shoulds which has a strap on either side that connects onto strap buttons on the drivers helmet which stops the neck jerking when a driver crashes or gets shunted. it restricts the drivers movements to less than an inch or 2 of head movement.

ah, i know eaxactly what you're talking about now! thanks. bloody good idea those things.

It not just the hans device. The cars themselfs are made better now. They make out of better material and design to take energy from crash and less for driver. That with hans makes f1 safer. But even that could not stop felipe massa accident at hungary. that is freak accident.

Agreed.
About an accident like Felipe's. I don't know how it can be prevented without a canopy.

massa's crash should just be accepted as a freak accident...
things like that are just unavoidable, like falling off a stepladder...
it shows that their are inherent dangers in everything we do...
what's so sad about massa's accident is that it overshadows surtees' accident and he was forgotten...

They should have cancelled that grand prix
Italian law says that if a death occurs in a sporting event, the event has to be cancelled and the death investigated... This sad accident could have spared Senna's life the next day, but there was too much money invested into this and it got the better of justice I guess...
RIP Roland and Ayton, we'll never forget

They shouldn´t race that weekend... too sad, Rest in Peace Roland!!

I agree. If they didn't race the next day out of respect for Roland, nothing would have happened and his teammate would still be alive today (Ayrton Senna). RIP both.
