It happened back in 1850 and knocked most of the power out and caused enough disruption. Now we are dependent on satellites and other forms of power which could be knocked out instantaneously. If there is a strong enough flare that could penetrate the ozone then that's all it would take.

The eruption in this movie is pretty inaccurate. The sequence of events is correct (lots of smaller explosions around the edge of the caldera followed by a larger explosion), but it's way underexaggerated. In reality, the small explosions are bigger and the entire park collapses into the crater. They shouldve been incinerated when the big explosion went off. Ahh well, those moron filmmakers can do whatever they bloody well want as long as it doesn't border on ignorance.

If the Yellowstone Super Volcano errupted we would all be pretty much screwed. It is suposed to erupt every 600,000 years, the last time it errupted was 630,000 years meaning it is 30,000 years overdue. The erruption could happen any time, any place. The US would be gone, disapeared...and many other countries would be suffocated with the smoke, and hit by Tsunami's from the huge quake after the blast. This is a warning, as I do not believe in 2012.

There is a low chance of it erupting in our lifetimes but in the future it will. It could erupt tomorrow or it could erupt in a few hundred thousand years. If the Yellowstone Super Volcano errupted we would all be pretty much screwed. It is suposed to erupt every 600,000 years, the last time it errupted was 630,000 years meaning it is 30,000 years overdue. The erruption could happen any time, any place. The US would be gone, disapeared...and many other countries would be suffocated with the smoke, and hit by Tsunami's from the huge quake after the blast. This is a warning, as I do not believe in 2012.

I wish people would stfu about 2012, if the world is going to end then it's going to end. By all means go out and get drunk on December 20th, fuck a prostitute etc but for the next 20 months or so stop going on about it.
If the world is going to end there is nothing you are going to be able to do about it.

A real eruption of Yellowstone would be so much more violent. If you think Yellowstone will just be an average eruption then you are in for a serious surprise. There is a low chance of it erupting in our lifetimes but in the future it will. It could erupt tomorrow or it could erupt in a few hundred thousand years. Humans won't be around in hundreds of thousands of years so we don't need to worry about that. The United States will be changed forerver.

The last time Yellowstone erupted, it covered the entire North American continent in FEET of ash, as compared to the couple inches over a few square miles you can expect from a regular eruption. It erupts on average every 600,000 years, but it's been 640,000 since the last eruption. It's also worth noticing that Yellowstone has been slightly bulging up for years now and the springs are supposedly getting hotter.

It's epic, but this volcono only looks like 3 times stronger than mount saint helens (Eruption), althought, the pwned with the ash cloud, I just think the could have made the explosion stonger.

It was way bigger than a nuke, it broke 2 layers of atmosphere..well that 2nd layer was at 75km altitude if i'm right. And that's completely plausible cause whole Yellowstone Park erupted:)

Actually, Yellowstone IS a super volcano and this movie gives a fair, visual description of what would happen if it exploded.
In fact, I would have to say that the explosion is toned down compared to what would actually happen, assuming it exploded.
Do I believe in 2012? No. Do I believe Yellowstone COULD explode one day? Absolutely. Scientists aren't worried, per se, but they are looking for ways to prevent it from going up.
